1 Telephone: HEATHFIELD NEWSLETTER ISSUE Heathfield s Got Talent Fire Officer Visit A Dream of Elephants Elves at Work Composers of the Week Mathletics Superstar and Interview Christmas Lunch Sit n Stitch Decorations Foundation Nativity KS 1 Christmas With the Aliens Awards Assembly The end of the Michaelmas Term is always an exciting time at Heathfield there are Nativity plays to be produced, concerts to be performed and all sorts of celebrations hear Year 5 sing their version of the 12 Days of Christmas! Marvel at the incredible performances of our Nativity actors! Exclaim at the work undertaken with the stitching club! In the dingle, the children are in pursuit of a missing elf...sit n stitch are making decorations...year 6 are dreaming of elephants...we have been enjoying the music of the Beatles and Aretha Franklin...and we have another incredible World Number One spot in Mathletics, this time a superb solo performance by Ananyaa, who became the top Mathlete IN THE WORLD! You can read an interview which might give some tips about becoming a worldbeater. We enjoyed our Christmas lunch, and were able to show our appreciation for the kitchen staff who look after us so brilliantly all year. There will be a special Christmas edition of the Newsletter next week, so this will not be the last of the year...but nearly!

3 That s right there was so much potential talent that we had to turn the page around to fit it all in! What was there? It would be easier to say what WAS- N T! We had magicians, musicians, celebrities and guest stars; card tricks and karate; comedians and drama Altogether, it surely left the audience in no doubt whatsoever Heathfield HAS Got talent!

4 What incredibly diverse talent there was on show! We had comedians, a display of kata, a story-teller poet, singers and other musicians, some extraordinary Men of Mystery...and lots more! See if you can spot your favourite act!

7 Children in Year 2 enjoyed a visit from Fire Officer Boggs, who demonstrated some of the firefighting kit needed to tackle the different sorts of emergencies that fire crews get called to attend, and who also spoke about fire safety. It is a vitally important message and we remember how Heathfield children in the past have used this information to keep themselves and other family members safe.

8 In Year 6, the children are using all their skills to put forward an extraordinary idea that Heathfield becomes a School with an elephant! Recognising that teamwork will make the dream work, they have produced well-considered persuasive writing, made emotionally-arresting presentations and have created posters to demonstrate how dreams become reality, They shared some of these ideas in the Teamwork assembly.

9 Christmas is coming, so be on your guard! Across in the Nursery are elves working hard, Mixing and measuring delicious mincemeats, To make many platefuls of Christmassy treats!

10 Answer: They have all featured as one of the Heathfield Composers of the Week over this term and we have all enjoyed listening to the very different music they produced!

11 Mathletics has been a hugely successful part of the Heathfield experience over the past few years twice we have had classes top the world leaderboard, and last week a HF pupil hit number one spot huge congratulations to Ananyaa, who has been a keen and successful Mathlete since it first appeared in the School. Ananyaa has also given an interview about her achievement, which you will find on the next page. What a great role model for us all!

12 Congratulations on your amazing achievement becoming World No 1 in Mathletics. How does it feel? It feels really good and I feel really proud of myself. I had a target and I persevered and achieved it. Have you always liked Maths? I do love Maths but when I was younger I preferred English, reading stories but now Maths is my favourite. Why is that? I like the way it feels when you ve solved a hard problem and Maths is based on real life. Tell me about Mathletics. When did you start using it? When I was in Year 2 Mr Baker introduced Mathletics to the school. He wanted everyone to start using it and my Mathletics journey started with my first bronze certificate when I earned 1000 points. How has your Mathletics journey progressed? In Year 3 Mr Redmond set the whole class a target to be the top class in the school but we ended being the best in the world. It felt amazing I earned 45,060 points towards that. When did you decide to aim to be best in the world? I ve continued to enjoy Mathletics. I ve continued to enjoy the feeling scoring well gives me and I ve always kept my eye on the leader boards hoping that one day I would be at the top. So what has been happening recently? My chance came on Saturday. I dedicated the day to aiming for a high score. I focussed on the activities section which are questions linked to the Maths curriculum we do in Year 5. When I wanted a break I moved to the Live Challenges to refresh my mind. I found myself playing against children from Canada and other places around the world. By the end of the day nobody else in the world had scored more points than me. How did you react? My Mum and brother were upstairs so when I saw the leader board I ran upstairs with the laptop and we celebrated with chocolate!

13 Last week was one of the most eagerly-awaited days of the school calendar: Christmas lunch! There was a wonderful feast on offer turkey and all the trimmings, vegetarian alternatives, ice-cream, trifle...and, of course, mince pies!

24 We enjoyed two incredible Nativity Plays at the end of this week: the Foundation Stage produced the most amazing retelling of the Christmas story and Key Stage 1 told us the story through the (many) eyes of aliens, accompanied with their own musicmaking! Huge thanks to all who helped in any way with these plays and in particular to the children themselves, who were brilliant!
