1 Newsletter 2018 November 23 - Week 6 Term 4 What's going on in 4/5N?! "Wow! Did you know that the..." This is the one phrase we are hearing all the time now in our class during our study of God s world and its innumerable creatures. We have been researching and learning a lot on how God has created each tiny and big creature with physical, behavioural or some other unique feature to help it to live, survive and thrive in different environments. We also realised during this time that Australia does not have a bear species (No, Koala bear's don t count!). So as our STEM project, we set about designing a species of bear that would have been able to survive in the arid Sturt Stony desert. Wow, it fun but hard! We realised how much thought God would have put into making each one of us individually so unique. Here are some facts we came across: "Did you know Grey Wolves do more hunting in winter when their prey is zapped of energy due to the cold temperature, than in the summer?" - Holly "Did you know there are no birds of prey in the Great Sandy Desert?" - Micah "Did you know that only female mosquitoes bite us because they need more energy to lay eggs?"- Luke "Did you know a shrimp s heart is located in its head?" - Asha "Did you know that the Saber-toothed tigers had much longer fangs than the wild cats of today?" - Emma H Mable Ninan - 4/5N Teacher

Too often they are focused on how they are seen by the people around them. Too often they think that their grades, their fashion, their phones, their number of friends, defi ne them. As a teacher this often breaks my heart as I want to help them see themselves as the unique creation that they are. I watch them compare themselves to the people around them, the people on social media and the rest of the world. They do not stop to see that the world does not need two of anyone. As David said in Psalm 139: "You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous how well I know it." Thursday 6th Boarders Travel Out Tuesday 11th Whole College Christmas Assembly We are created by God for His purpose. There is a plan for each person that belongs to them. As the Year 12 cohort step out onto their paths I hope and pray that they will see the opportunities before them. I pray that they will embrace the journey and be enthusiastic in the adventure. As the rest of the students continue their schooling, I pray that they will know that God loves them, He made them, and He knows them. I pray that the school will continue to provide an environment where they learn that they do not have to compare themselves to anyone or anything they just need to fi nd their path. Thursday 13th Student's Last Day Students who are not struggling with their identity are able to focus more effectively on their learning. They are able to fully engage in subjects and explore ideas because they are confi dent in the knowledge that they have purpose and direction. Friday 14th Student Free Day & Staff Luncheon This emphasis is something that Christian Education offers and makes us distinctive. We are focusing on strengthening our students as people so that they can learn better, strive harder, and succeed more. The struggle is worth it when I watch students blossom and take hold of the plan for their life. It is a blessing to be on this journey and I am in awe of the work that He does. 3 What s Happening Around the College Year 3/4's recently made fruit kebabs! The students brought in different fruit to share and they enjoyed making their own kebabs and trying new fruit. There was jack fruit, mango, honey dew, watermelon and bananas. They went down a treat as they dipped them in Greek yoghurt. A great healthy, cool snack! Congratulations to Luke Secrett & Sophie McKee who were Our Year 4/5 s are loving their volleyball cluster! recently awarded their Silver Dukes at Parliament House! Thank goodness for indoor fans!

They've been looking at generators, telescopes, shadow puppets and kaleidoscope 's!

6 Christmas is a wonderful time of year, but can also create a lot of unnecessary waste. Come along to this information session to find out how to make your Christmas festive and enviro-friendly. You can share any tips you have too. There will be a chance to try a number of green Christmas gift ideas and wrapping techniques. This is a family friendly event.
