1 1/4/6 Deer P end G,' Atteched is the 12/30/6 letter from Angel and my today's response. Bud spent the afternoon here, we got to cover little, 1 again feel overwnelmed with what is yet to be done, so i've asked for some of ehat I v.eulc:, hive preferred going for in person. ehile there need be nothing sinister about the deletion in O'Sullivan's testimony, i em perplexed that it was done without iudicetien to tue printers. this can be from an editing of gelley proofs. nowever, tnere hes been no indication tuts was done in other cases. hence my request for an explenation. As o matter of fact, what was deleted was properly deleted. In the p st I hive indiceted at least some of my interest in O'B to both of you. 1 have just discussed thin briefly with iisl and i told Uery pretty much of the story when lest he was here. I think. You will recall Vinson assured ee these documents were under review toe 1,et year of the 1.. administration. That means this withheld document should have been declassified if the reason is persenel &Alf" ebout 7errie, for it then was all a matter of public record and he wan deed, without survivors. Paul, 1 do net now recall weather any of the list of does 1 eked for 11/ Or, aside from jee:701, was classified. Apparently I got them ell. I have yet to go over tam. I believe they are ell on nent (end still, eith wnet I earlier had, not ell on him). ell over basin we hove agreed to proceed separately and "immediately" on tee ane/ray stun', which is where we were two months sem and is but the last tuing ee discussed two eoeks ago, when 7 reked Ilud to estieete when he con hove those papers reedy. net says now, in an emergency, in two days. 'Without an emergency, he wents to research the al cases filed (Nader filed the 2th yesterday or the day before, vs Ag., in Belt.) to speak nice to the lawyers who handled, if any are local. If he does this, and if there is any pressure of work in his ce:ace, a more realistic time might be two months. Me can neve tee microfilm of to e "axes file. So for as i an concerned, this can mean Teul, end when I get it I'll send it to him. Bud is to call this man tomorrow end see when he can expect the printout,; I suggested he assure tee perfectionist we know much will be illegible and is beyond his control or influencine. he will also broach the euestien of some copies of COUP. In toe a.m. I en sending Paul the only copy 1 helm, a printout of this microfilm, in the evait Gerry wants it. Because it is my sole copy, I'd prefer that Garry pay for a xerox end we have this under our control. I also reco mend against meking any copies for us from this one because I exrect a level-size one back and when I get it send it out. That will be much more reedible when reduced by half than this. If my records are not wrong, Gary may hove n copy. ii if is the copy, that will not substitute. If it is a xerox, it weuldte good if he vent that to caul, insured for :50.00, imeedintely, for 1 do need copies end one can then be made for him and Mery, etc. Re above this guy has a microfilm of COUP (I). Angel doesn't mention it, but they else replaced the bad copy of CE740. There is no doubt that the ter'ein immeeiete southwest of the manhole hes been specially treated, as with a race, washing or both. I'd like a photoenelysis. Bud abd i didn't have time to get iuto tea.1zḳ stuff suit. Sincerely,

I was a cadet in Civil Air Patrol, and while I was in Beauregard we were having a A recruiting drive to get more cadet members in the New Orleans quadron, and there were three fellows at the school that I le' talked to in particular about joining that. One was Joseph Thompson, one was Edward Voebel -- I am not sure how that name is spelled -- and Lee Harvey Oswald. My reason for asking Oswald to join was I noticed -- we had a drill team, we were real proud of our drill team. ''"'-z",.1i. This was a marching team? :si.-.6-:-:.:_mt4. A A marching unit; yes, sir, and Oswald carried himself always erect, always gave the impression that he could be marching, that he may be marching, eyes straight ahead, head straight, shoulders back, so he impressed me as the sort of a fellow that would really fit well on the drill team. He seemed like he could -- well, he even gave the impression that he would make a pretty good leader if he ever got into the squadron, so with this recruiting drive I asked the three of them to come out to the airport. I explained what we did out there, marching and DIETRICH a WITT, Inc. STENOTYPE REPORTERS NATIONAL BANE OF COMMERCE Two. NEW ORLEANS

Joe Thompson stayed in the squadron, and Oswald came to one or two meetings, possibly three, along with Voebel. However, Voebel then joined the Civil Air Patrol at Moisant Airport, and because he was a closer friend of Oswald, he evidently talked Oswald into coming out to the squadron he had joined.
