Viraj Shri Ram Centennial School Survey No: 27, Opp. Talathi Office Tarapur Boisar Road Kurgaon, Boisar (West) Expressions Volumn: XIII (August September 2017) Expressions From The Principal's Desk Raksha Bandhan A Visit to Hutatma Chowk Independence Day Parsi New Year Day Special Session on CPR Session on Blue Whale Challenge Ganesh Chaturthi National Sports Day A Session on Self-Defence Teacher s Day Hindi Diwas World Ozone Day A Special Assembly on River Rally Fancy Dress Competition Dussehra Alertness is the Hidden Discipline of Familiarity. Dear Parents, Gone are the days when children used to play outdoor games like gilli-danda, lagori, kancha, kho-kho etc. The mere mention of these games is bound to evoke nostalgia for our generation. But will the children of this generation have the same memories? Most probably not, the online activities have taken a toll on today s generation. They like to spend their time playing online games in virtual world rather than having outdoor activities. These practices of theirs sometimes lead them into trouble. Children may get attracted towards some deadly games which may prove fatal in future. Blue Whale Challenge is the deadliest amongst all due to its lethal nature as it instigates suicide and self-inflicted injuries. Hence realizing the crying need of the hour an alarming session on this social issue was conducted to literate young VSRCians against the deadly motives behind this disastrous online game. It was indeed a satiating interactive session as we received affirmative responses from our students end. I urge all the parents out there to monitor your child s social media activities and ensure they are allowed to access them only when you are convinced that they are mature enough to handle them. It would be better to encourage them to participate in outdoor games. Be aware and Be safe! Warm Regards, Mr S K Mishra Principal (VSRCS) ACCOLADES

Raksha Bandhan Bhaiya mere rakhi ke bandhan ko nibhana Bhaiya mere chotti behan ko na bhulana Every year sister waits to tie Rakhi, a sacred thread, on her brother s wrist during Raksha Bandhan as a form of ritual protection. It is the festival that reaffirms and reinforces the love and bond between brothers and sisters. Rakhi is not just a silk thread but a mark of pure love between the brother and sister, united with the mantra for everlasting protection. We at VSRCS, celebrated this festival with zeal and enthusiasm. A special assembly was organized on 5 th of August by Heritage club, wherein the students shared information and also presented a beautiful dance and a melodious song. A Visit to Hutatma Chowk Students of Grade VIII visited Hutatma Chowk in Palghar to pay homage to the freedom fighters, natives of Palghar vicinity, on 14 th of August. Independence Day We sound & speak differently but collectively our hearts pump proudly The most remarkable and the historic day for every Indian, the 71 st Independence Day, was celebrated with great zeal and splendour at VSRCS on 15 th of August. The day commenced with the hoisting of our National flag by Principal, Mr. S.K. Mishra followed by National Anthem. The prestigious March Past by the students of VI to X mesmerized everyone with pride and honour. With an objective to create a patriotic spirit and realizing the vision of New India, an oath taking ceremony was held wherein all the students and staff vowed to keep the surroundings clean and promote the use of toilets in our country. Principal, Mr. S.K. Mishra enlightened the gathering through his inspiring words on Skill Development Programme. Sir emphasised on the

importance of maintaining cleanliness and the harmful effects of online games like Blue Whale Challenge. Thereafter, cultural programme began by the students showcasing the spirit of patriotism in the form of dances, songs and speeches. It was a proud moment to watch them perform as they spread the essence of tricolour wrapped in emotions. Parsi New Year Day Parsi New Year Day The vibrant festival, Pateti, is celebrated on the eve of Parsi New Year, by the largest minority community worldwide, Parsis. Pateti is celebrated to gain prosperity, health and wealth, wherein Four F s Fire, Fragrance, Food and Friendship play a vital role. It is the day to relish Parsi cuisines, greet the near and dear ones and exchange of gifts. Peteti is also the day of repentence the day to repent all sins. This day was observed with zeal and enthusiasm at VSRCS on 16 th of August. An assembly was organized by Integrity club wherein students shared information on Parsi New Year. PowerPoint presentation was done by Shrusti Krishna of Grade VI. Special Session on CPR Uncertainty Can Be an Asset, If You Allow It To Be - Colin Wright Life is full of uncertainties you never know what might happen the very next moment in your life. It might seem a normal day to you, you re breathing and suddenly your heartbeat stops, the reasons may be from heart attack to blood infections to accidents. However, death does not have to be the consequence. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, known as CPR, was developed to help us increase our chances of survival. CPR is a procedure in which you basically try to restart someone s breathing or heart by manually compressing the person s chest and pushing air into the lungs by breathing into the person s mouth. This concept was brilliantly demonstrated by Dr. Parag Kulkarni on 18 th of August. It was an interactive and demonstrative session on CPR. Curious students asked many relevant questions and their doubts were clarified with logical answers by Dr. Kulkarni.

Session on Blue Whale Challenge Alertness and Courage are Life s Shield The deadly dare-based online game, Blue-Whale Challenge, is making headlines now-a-days for its menacing nature. The term Blue Whale comes from the phenomenon of beached whales, which is linked to suicide. The challenge is spread over 50 tasks and the final task requires the player to commit suicide. Hence, an eyeopening session was conducted by Principal, Mr. S.K. Mishra at Viraj Shri Ram Centennial School on 19 th of August to spread awareness amongst our students against this lethal online game. It was more like an interactive session, where the students shared their thoughts and asked many questions. Their questions were logically answered. At the end of the session each one present there came to a conclusion that such games should be banned to save mankind from being exploited by the admin of such deadly games. This session was an initiative to urge the parents out there to keep a watch on their wards online activities. Ganesh Chaturthi Come August and the preparations to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi begin with great enthusiasm all over the state. On the blissful occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, a special assembly was organized by Heritage, Dance and Integrity club on 24 th of August. The assembly commenced with information shared by students. Thereafter, students presented a beautiful skit on Ganesha, Lord of wisdom. This was followed by energetic dance and pleasant songs by the students. Then came the most awaited moment, Ganesh Stapana followed by Ganesh pooja. Students and Teachers alike offered prayers with true devotion and sanctity.

National Sports Day He scores goals like runs in cricket - Sir Don Bradman Here He is none other than the legendary hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand Singh. Every year National sports Day in India is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of this great hockey player. Dhyan Singh often referred as The Wizard made India proud with his extraordinary sporting skills. To make this day more memorable, a special assembly was organized by the Sports Department on 29 th of August. Students shared information on the importance of sports and a special yogasana session was also presented. A Session on Self-Defence Self-Defence is Nature s Eldest Law. -John Dryden Self defence is not just a set of techniques. It s a state of mind and it begins with the belief that you are worth of defending. Continuing the VSRCS tradition of equipping our students with life skills like self-awareness and mindfulness, a special session on Self-defence was held on 1 st of September. VSRCS in association with Leo Club, Boisar, conducted a session wherein professional Martial Art trainers demonstrated many lifesaving self defence techniques to develop self confidence in the students. Amongst the invitees were the girls of Sri Vidya School and Boisar Military School who took keen interest in learning these techniques. Principal,Mr.S.K. Mishra, in his address expressed his views on self defence and martial art and said that Competition is among children and not among the schools. The ultimate goal of every school is creating responsible citizens. The aim of conducting such sessions is to instill confidence in students which proved fruitful in every manner.

Teacher s Day A Teacher presents the past, reveals the present, and creates the future. Viraj Shri Ram Centennial School celebrated Teacher s Day with great zeal and gusto on 6 th of September. The students of Grade VI-X dedicated the day to honour the teachers, who play a vital role in moulding their lives. The assembly commenced with sharing valuable information on the importance of the day. The students presented a beautiful programme showcasing their talents as they performed amusing songs, vibrant dances, and a funny yet descriptive skit. Principal, Mr. S.K. Mishra expressed his love and gratitude towards the students and appreciated their efforts to make us feel on cloud nine. Thereafter, all the teachers were felicitated with a memento as a token of love and appreciation. It was indeed a cherishable day. Hindi Diwas Fancy Dress Competition (I V) Hindi Hamari Rashtra Bhasha Hai; Matra Ek Bhasha Nahi. Undeniably, Hindi is not just a language, it is our National Language. It is a very melodious and phonetic language which is spoken by millions of people not only in the native country but also in several other countries. To commemorate the day, Hindi Diwas was celebrated in VSRCS with solemnity and keenness on 14 th of September. Students shared information in Hindi and thereby presented a beautiful dance drama explaining the concept of ek and anek. Students also sang a beautiful song and presented a PowerPoint presentation showing the importance of Hindi language and why and how it was incorporated as the official language of our country. Principal, Mr. S.K. Mishra in his speech spoke about the prominence World of our Ozone Day Rashtra Bhasha and made it a point to speak in Hindi throughout the day as a mark of respect towards our national language.

World Ozone Day OZONE Not Just a Layer but a Protector Earth without Ozone is like a house without a roof, therefore, saving ozone layer should be our primary concern. Let s join hands to preserve this layer that plays a vital role in shielding life from the harmful ultraviolet light on Earth. Its depletion can accelerate global warming as the wind patterns in our planet could change resulting in climatic changes all over the world. To raise awareness amongst our young VSRCians about its harmful effects and also to learn the use of environmental friendly and ozone protective techniques, a special assembly was organized by Eco club on 15 th of September. A Special Assembly on River Rally Culturally and Spiritually, this is the richest land on the planet. Our Rivers are important for it to flourish, let our rivers flow. - Sadguru We believe in conserving nature and preserving it for future generation. We promote the same and our actions speak louder than words. We have planted more than 1000 plants on the campus which is increasing leaps and bounds. We also believe that Together we can make a difference. It s time to stand for an environmental initiative, support Rally for rivers, a campaign organized by spiritual guru, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. Regarding this an assembly was conducted on 18 th of September to spread awareness about the pathetic conditions of the rivers of our country. A video clip was shown to the students to have a better understanding about the cause that lasted for six minutes. Principal, Mr. S.K. Mishra also explained them that many of our rivers are depleting and it s time for us to spring into action. Thereafter an oath taking ceremony took place where the students and staff took a pledge to do their bit by planting saplings which in turn help in saving water.

Fancy Dress Competition Children love dressing up, especially in clothes that make them feel grown up. Playing dress-up begins at the age of 5 and never truly ends. They love to dress and resemble their favourite animal, fruit, cartoon character or any great personality. Fancy dress competition gives the children a chance to portray their favourite character. It is a platform to explore their hidden talents. Dussehra Dussehra symbolic of victory over evil, is the festival that reminds us of importance of goodness, fighting injustice and following the path of righteousness. The day was celebrated with pomp and show at VSRCS on 29 th of September. The students showcased their talents in the form of Garba dance on the tune of cinematic song, sang a devotional song in praise of goddess Durga. Thereafter, a spectacular skit was presented by the students enlightening and explaining nine avatars of Goddess Durga, namely, Sailaputrī (Daughter of the Himalayas), Brahmacharini (One who observes the state of celibacy doing penance), Chandraghanta ( One who bears the moon in her necklace ), Kusmanda (the creator of the universe), Skanda-Mata (The mother of Skanda, Karttikeya, born out of her powers), Katyayani (The daughter of sage Katyayana, who incarnated to help the Devas), Kalaratri (black as night, destroyer of Kali), Mahagauri (the wife of Lord Shiva, doing great penance), Siddhidatri (Provider of Siddhis, giver of mystic powers). Pincipal, Mr. S.K. Mishra, in his address spoke about importance of the festival and boosted the students with his inspiring words.
