3 Page 3 Yule: Dec.21st The Pagan holiday called Yule takes place on the day of the winter solstice, around December 21 in the northern hemisphere (below the equator, the winter solstice falls around June 21). On that day (or close to it), an amazing thing happens in the sky. The earth s axis tilts away from the sun in the Northern Hemisphere, and the sun reaches its greatest distance from the equatorial plane. Many cultures have winter festivals that are in fact celebrations of light. Yule or Yuletide is a festival observed by the historical Germanic peoples. Scholars have connected the celebration to the Wild Hunt, the god Odin, and the pagan Anglo-Saxon Mōdraniht. It later underwent Christianized reformulation resulting in the term Christmastide. Terms with an etymological equivalent to Yule are used in the Nordic countries for Christmas with its religious rites, but also for the holidays of this season. Chanukah (Hanukkah) starts on the Hebrew calendar date of 25 Kislev, and lasts for eight days. Chanukah is the Jewish eightday, wintertime festival of lights, celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods. The Hebrew word Chanukah means dedication, and is thus named because it celebrates the Hanukkah: December 12-December 20 rededication of the Holy Temple (as you ll read below). Also spelled Hanukkah (or variations of that spelling), the Hebrew word is actually pronounced with a guttural, kh sound, kha-nu-kah, not tchanew-kah. At the heart of the festival is the nightly menorah lighting. The menorah holds nine flames, one of which is the shamash ( attendant ), which is used to kindle the other eight lights. On the first night, we light just one flame. On the second night, an additional flame is lit. By the eighth night of Chanukah, all eight lights are kindled. Special blessings are recited, often to a traditional melody, before the menorah is lit, and traditional songs are sung afterward. For the first 300 years of Christianity, it wasn t so. When was Christmas first celebrated? In an old list of Roman bishops, compiled in A. D. 354 these words appear for A.D. 336: 25 Dec.: natus Christus in Betleem Judeae. December 25th, Christ born in Bethlehem, Judea. This day, December 25, 336, is the first recorded celebration of Christmas. For the first three hundred years of the church s existence, birthdays were not given much emphasis--not even the birth of Christ. The day on which a saint died was Christmas: Dec. 25th considered more significant than his or her birth, as it ushered him or her into the kingdom of heaven. Christ s baptism received more attention than his birthday in the January 6th feast of Epiphany. Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed most commonly on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it is preceded by the season of Advent or the Nativity Fast and initiates the season of Christmastide, which historically in the West lasts twelve days and culminates on Twelfth Night; in some traditions, Christmastide includes an Octave. Christmas Day is a public holiday in many of the world s nations, is celebrated religiously by a majority of Christians, as well as culturally by many non-christians, and forms an integral part of the holiday season. If we also think about the fact that exuberant Jupiter situated in Scorpio is joined by fiery Mars on the 9th, then we can say that December is full of blustering, impetuous, untamed energies. The Jupiter-Neptune trine adds to these an idealistic dimension, of a highly romantic nature. Under the above-mentioned circumstances, the name of the game is enthusiasm, confidence, and the sense that anything is possible. But we can also encounter carelessness, foolishness, and imprudence. Due to that, in order to experience only the positive influences and steer clear of the negative ones, it would be best that before we start doing anything important we carefully evaluate our resources and analyze the risk/benefit ratio. Until December the Mars-Uranus opposition is active a configuration with a high degree of serious accidents, technical malfunctions, conflicts, aggressions, destructive tendencies, unexpected or extreme gestures, unfortunate events, natural disasters. It s also important to keep in mind that Mercury is in retrograde motion (it will be retrograde in Sagittarius during the December 3-23 term), so things aren t always as they seem to be and don t always go as anticipated; they could be delayed, complicated, or move back and forth. Bottom line? Except emergencies, it s better to postpone making major decisions until after December , when we ll see a much clearer picture and have all the necessary info in order to make the right call.

It is a time of connecting with like-minded people in a non judgmental setting and receiving Reiki. Whenever sacred time and space are created in the presence of love, many treasures become available. Participating in a share is also a beneficial way of honoring one another as healers. Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 pm Spirit s Child will be hosting the facilitation of A Course In Miracles.
