Adult Bible Study rescheduled 4:00pm Colvert Ministry Center & United Methodist Men 6:00pm Colvert Ministry Center October 18 Donuts with Dad 7:45-8:30am Fellowship Hall & No Adults or Children Night & Youth at Urban Air October 20 Friendly Neighbors 10:00am-1:00pm Colvert Ministry Center Fall Festival - October 25, 2017 We are excited to announce our annual Fall Festival will be Wednesday, October 25, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Colvert Ministry Center. There will be hotdogs, carnival games, and tons of candy. Kids, don't forget to wear those costumes! Each year our church has an opportunity to serve at this event. There are several ways adults can help serve: - Bring Halloween candy to the welcome center. - Help set up the Colvert Ministry Center on Tuesday, October 24th starting at 9:00a.m. - Help cook and serve in the kitchen on Wednesday, October 25th starting at 4:30p.m. -Help clean up the Colvert Ministry Center on Wednesday, October 25th at 7:00p.m. Please contact Amy Hopper at children@fumcardmore.com or ext. 319, to sign up. Our youth will also have a special opportunity to serve. We would like to have two youth per carnival game. The youth will need to be at the Colvert Ministry Center no later than 5:00 p.m. and will lead their carnival game until 7:00 p.m. If your youth is interested in volunteering, please contact Chris Hopper at chris@fumcardmore.com or ext The Fall Festival is a wonderful ministry, not only for the families of our church, but also for the community of Ardmore. This is an opportunity for visitors to see what a loving, open, and caring church we are here at First United Methodist Ardmore. We hope you will join us at this year's Fall Festival. 2 Page 2 The Calling October 6, 2017 CCDC Church Services Jail Ministry News Just as Jesus multiplied the five loaves and two fish to feed the multitudes, He is actively using the principle of multiplication in jail ministry. The number of women saved in jail and accepting the call to share the gospel and minister in prison is multiplying weekly. While I fully expected the Word to heal and make whole the women inside our jails and prisons, I m not sure I had considered the effect it would have on family members. Recently, I wrote words of encouragement to a woman whose granddaughter is bound by depression and alcoholism. I told her that God has made her precious granddaughter whole and from God comes deliverance. I shared with her the truth that we are not identified by our past failures or future successes. She replied with a sweet note thanking me for the words of healing and hope. She shared that she was able to forgive herself, she loves Jesus, and has always wanted to be baptized. She asked Could I help her with this? Jesus said, All authority on heaven and earth has been given to me. Our Savior is still Master of God s authority to multiply all that His Spirit touches. Thank you for your gifts and prayers to this ministry. Kim Hunt Soup Kitchen Volunteer Week Oct Nov. 3 Want to serve? SYMPATHY Our thoughts and prayers are with Chad and Barbara Craddock, with the passing of Chad s father, A. N. Sonny Craddock Jr., on His services were September 26 at the First Baptist Church in Ardmore with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Charles Fitch, with his passing on September 13. A private family service is planned with Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. Our thoughts and prayers are with Carol Resender, with the passing of her husband, Patrick Resneder, on September 27. Services were October 2 in Hobart, OK. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rev. Randal and Deni Richards, with the passing of Randal s previous father-in-law, Bill Mullinex, on September 26. His services were September 30 at Asbury United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park. MEMORIAL In memory of Deloris Mock, a contribution has been received from Cheryl Key for the FUMC Pre-School. *If you would like to make a Memorial Donation, please include information that states whom the donation is in memory of and who you would like to be notified about the donation (if you have a preference). We will facilitate the sharing of experiences to promote a deeper, more fulfilling life that can only be found in Jesus Christ the ultimate man. In order for a man to get his heart back, he s got to take a journey. One that involves risk, danger, and a point of no return. It is a four-day quest into the recovery of the masculine soul. BaseCamp is more than a retreat it s an expedition of the heart. You ll never be the same! It is with much anticipation that we go into the Fall Basecamps awaiting God s miraculous restoration of men s hearts. Please pray for these camps and the men that will be in attendance. Please pray for their families as they step into this journey. Thank you to all who pray, contribute, and pour into the lives of men through True North as our Father calls them into who He knows they really are. Fall Basecamp #2 is November 9-12, 2017 at OAKRDIGE Camp in Anadarko, OK. BaseCamp starts at 6:30pm Thursday evening, so you could still work all day if you needed; and it s done by noon on Sunday, so you will be home to eat a late lunch with your family! 3 Page 3 The Calling October 6, 2017 St. Mary Women s Club Food Sale The Women s Club at St. Mary Church is having its annual Food Sale on October 28, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, at 101 E. Street NW. Fresh baked goods, frozen casseroles, and homemade soups will be available for purchase. Stock up for the holidays! Cookson Hills Toole Tyme Mission 2017 Have you been looking for a way to positively impact others? The Toole Tyme Mission is November 10-12, 2017 at the Cookson Hills Center. Volunteers will assist in chopping firewood, cleaning, cooking, and many other light-medium tasks. The residents of this area live in poverty and still depend on firewood for daily living. Since its inception, in 1948, the Cookson Hills Center has been meeting the needs of the people of this tri-county area This tri-county area hosts three of the four poorest counties in the State of Oklahoma... Friday evening will be lots of fun, fellowship, and spiritual time, including games and a silent auction. RV hookups are available. Price ranges from $95 per person (two nights and meals) and lower, depending on how many people to a room. Our Mission Faith Promise will pay $25 of the cost for church members. If you are interested in joining the team, please contact the church office at or Cherry Bradley. Deadline to register is November 6. The registration form is included in this edition. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:14-21 NIV Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Because of your generosity and your faithfulness to the Lord and to the ministries of this church, we have had a very good year financially! This, in turn, has taken the pressure off of your staff, your finance team, and your Administrative Council. When you are able to dream and talk about how you are going to serve the Lord, as compared to wondering where the finances are going to come from, it is night and day in the life of the church. Our prayer and vision for this year was to have a healthy and prosperous year financially. We are well on our way to achieving this goal. To date, all of our bills are paid. We are beginning our budgeting process, and plan to present our 2018 budget for approval in January. On behalf of your staff, let me thank you for your faithfulness. We are doing our very best to achieve the goals that have been set, along with creating and visioning new ministries for the future. When our finance team, led by Renny Collins, is able to give our staff and the lay leadership of our congregation the green light to go after new goals and ministries, it creates an incredible environment to serve and work in day after day. One of the new additions to our pledge card this year is a Debt Relief card. We invite you to write down the total amount of any financial debt that you have. What would it look like in your life if you had no debt? Would you be able to do more for the Lord and His kingdom? Would burdens be lifted off your heart and shoulders? You do not write your name on this debt card, only the total amount of your financial debt. We believe that God can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us! We pray that you are excited about what the Triune God is doing in the life of our congregation. We invite you to pray and vision with us what God can do with our lives and resources the more we trust and obey Him. Because our God is so great and has the ability to take our petitions and create even greater results, we not only want you to bring your pledge for 2018, but your debt relief card as well. On October 15th, we ask you to bring your pledge card and debt relief card to church, to present them to the Lord and His kingdom. At the end of both services, you will be invited to come down to the communion rail and place these cards in a basket. Before our benediction, we will ask for God s blessings to be upon our pledges for Again, thank you for your continued service and giving to the ministries of this congregation.
