All Saints Church 11 March 2018 Mothering Sunday Family Service Welcome!
Welcome to our Family Service. There is no children s workshop and we all stay together in church for the whole service. Busy bags are available at the South door and if anyone gets restless, please feel very welcome to walk about the church with them during the service. Later in the service, everyone is invited to come to the altar to receive communion or God s blessing. All who are communicant members of this or another church are welcome to receive communion. Please bow your head to indicate if you would like a blessing. During communion, the choir sings on behalf of the congregation; this allows us the opportunity to think more deeply about our relationship with God in our lives, through meditating on the words and music chosen for the day. The mass setting today is by Mozart in B flat. After the service, refreshments are served in the East end of the Church. Please feel very welcome to stay and enjoy, and if you have not been to the church before, please do introduce yourself to one of the clergy or churchwardens we d love to meet you. Weekday Communion Services: Tuesday 12noon; Wednesday 12noon (both Common Worship); Thursday 10.30am (BCP). Silent Prayer is kept on Fridays at 12noon The Parish is part of an Anglican Team with St John the Evangelist Church in Grove Lane and St John the Baptist Kingston Vale, and also a member of the Local Ecumenical Project with Union Street Baptist Church and the United Reformed Church in Eden Street. Church office:info@allsaintskingston.co.uk Tel Development office: klong@whereenglandbegan.co.uk Tel Rector: Rev Jonathan Wilkes Tel: jonathan@allsaintskingston.co.uk This booklet is for you to take home PLEASE KEEP YOUR BELONGINGS WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES
Order for a Family Service The choir will sing the Introit Hail! Blessed Virgin Mary. "Hail blessed virgin Mary," For so when he did meet thee, Spake mighty Gabriel, And thus we greet thee. Come weal, come woe, our hymn shall never vary: "Hail blessed virgin Mary, Hail blessed virgin Mary!" The Opening Hymn is 451. The Lord be with you, and also with you. In a few moments of silence we remember before God the things we have done that are wrong, always remembering God s readiness to forgive us and set us free from the mistakes of the past. We say together... Lord Jesus, we have said and thought and done things that were wrong. We wish that we had done better and are truly sorry. We ask you to forgive us and pray that you will help us to start again and be the people you want us to be. Amen The Lord enrich you with his grace and nourish you with his blessing; the Lord defend you in trouble and keep you from all evil; the Lord accept your prayers, and absolve you from your offences, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Saviour. Amen.
The English Folk Mass Kyrie Choir: Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy. All: Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy. Choir: Christ have mercy, Christ have mercy. All: Christ have mercy, Christ have mercy. Choir: Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy. All: Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy. We say together the collect the special prayer for this Sunday: God of compassion, whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary, shared the life of a home in Nazareth, and on the cross drew the whole human family to himself: strengthen us in our daily living that in joy and in sorrow we may know the power of your presence to bind together and to heal; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, Amen The first reading today is Exodus 2:1-10. Now a man from the house of Levi went and married a Levite woman. The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was a fine baby, she hid him for three months. When she could hide him no longer she got a papyrus basket for him, and plastered it with bitumen and pitch; she put the child in it and placed it among the reeds on the bank of the river. His sister stood at a distance, to see what would happen to him. The daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her attendants walked beside the river. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid to bring it. When she opened it, she saw the child. He was crying, and she took pity on him. This must be one of the Hebrews children, she said. Then his sister said to Pharaoh s
daughter, Shall I go and get you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you? Pharaoh s daughter said to her, Yes. So the girl went and called the child s mother. Pharaoh s daughter said to her, Take this child and nurse it for me, and I will give you your wages. So the woman took the child and nursed it. When the child grew up, she brought him to Pharaoh s daughter, and she took him as her son. She named him Moses, because, she said, I drew him out of the water. Let us declare our faith in God... The Creed We believe in God the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. We believe in God the Son, who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love. We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us with power from on high. We believe in God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen We stand for Hymn Be still for the presence of the Lord. Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here; Come bow before him now with reverence and fear: In him no sin is found - we stand on holy ground. Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here. Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around; He burns with holy fire, with splendour he is crowned: How awesome is the sight - our radiant King of light! Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around. Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place; He comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace - No work too hard for him. In faith receive from him. Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place We stand and turn to face the centre of the church from where today s Gospel is read.
John 19:25-27 Hear the Gospel of our Lord according to John: Glory to you, O Lord. The Gospel And that is what the soldiers did. Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, Woman, here is your son. Then he said to the disciple, Here is your mother. And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. The talk today is given by the Rector, Jonathan Wilkes. Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer. The Talk The Prayers of Intercession The peace of the Lord be always with you And also with you We offer one another a sign of peace. The Peace After the Peace we sing the Offertory Hymn 408 (second tune) during which a collection is taken for the work of the church, and the bread and wine for the Eucharist are brought to the altar.
Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, The glory, the splendour, and the majesty; For everything in heaven and on earth is yours. All things come from you, And of your own do we give you. The Lord is here. His spirit is with us. Lift up your hearts We lift them to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise. It is right to praise you, Father; Lord of all creation; in your love you made us for yourself. When we turned away you did not reject us, but came to meet us in your Son. You embraced us as your children and welcomed us to sit and eat with you. In Christ you shared our life that we might live in him and he in us. He opened his arms of love upon the cross and made for all the perfect sacrifice for sin. On the night he was betrayed, at supper with his friends he took bread, and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to them, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. Father we do this in remembrance of him: his body is the bread of life. At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, he gave you thanks, and said: The Eucharistic Prayer
Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins: do this in remembrance of me. Father we do this in remembrance of him: his blood is shed for all. As we proclaim his death and celebrate his rising in glory, send your Holy Spirit that this bread and this wine may be to us the body and blood of your dear Son. As we eat and drink these holy gifts make us one in Christ, our risen Lord. With your whole church throughout the world we offer you this sacrifice of praise and lift our voice to join the eternal song of heaven: Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of Thy glory: Glory be to Thee, O Lord most high. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Lord s Prayer We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.
Invitation to Communion Everyone is welcome to come to the altar to receive a blessing or the bread and wine. Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world, grant us Thy peace. While the congregation comes forward to receive Holy Communion the choir will sing Unser lieben Frauen Traum (Reger). Our Lady lay a-sleeping And dreamed a dream, as e'er 'tis said: That there beneath her heart lay A tree that grew with branches outspread. And lo, the tree its shadow gave To shelter ev'ry, ev'ry land: Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour, That tree is he, and aye shall stand. Lord Jesus Christ, our saving health, Hears us when we call: By his most bitter Passion He hath redeemed us all.
After Communion we say together: Loving God, as a mother feeds her children at the breast you feed us in this sacrament with the food and drink of eternal life:help us who have tasted your goodness to grow in grace within the household of faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen The Final Hymn is 239. The Blessing Go in peace to Love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen.
