2 Opening Song: Jesus, Mighty God WORSHIP LEADER: Our story begins at the famous office of Private Detective Fink-Minken- Dinken Cue SFX: Dragnet theme WORSHIP LEADER: and his loyal assistant Rufus. (Insulted when he hears the bark) Cue SFX: dog bark WORSHIP LEADER: They are about to get an unusual case. There s a knock on the door Cue SFX: door bell WORSHIP LEADER: rather, a ring of the doorbell Cue SFX: knock on door WORSHIP LEADER: in comes Mr. Streudal Von-Meesterbiscuit. Cue SFX: Jaws sounds STREUDAL: (Enters stage left with black cape and dapper suit, black top hat and umbrella. He is very cocky and bossy) Ah, you must be Detective Fink. FINK: (Annoyed) That s detective Fink-Minken-Dinken! Cue SFX: Dragnet theme STREUDAL: Whatever (Brushing lint off of his coat sleeves) I have a little situation I need cleared up RUFUS: (Silly but nice lug-head) Oh, Mr. Von Mister-biscuits STREUDAL: That s Mr. Streudal Von Mister I mean Meesterbiscuits! Cue SFX: Jaws sounds RUFUS: Whatever; This is your man, he s the best detective in the world. What is it that you need done? Find a lost treasure? Find a lost person? STREUDAL: No This is much more important I need to find the true meaning of Easter. Find out Who knows (Sinister) And how I can Meet with them. Hah, heh! 3 Cue SFX: Jaws sounds FINK: (Looking at file) It says here that you own the largest chocolate Easter egg factory in all the world. Surely, Easter is all about candy And candy is all about Money! Isn t that the truth For you? Why should it matter if the truth is out there - somewhere? STREUDAL: (Snaps back at Fink) It matters, you fool! Do you want the case or not? FINK: Alright We ll do it. STREUDAL: I will pay for you and your Dog! FINK: (Pointing to Rufus) I only have Rufus STREUDAL: (Frustrated) Oh, alright He ll have to do. Now, this is the only clue I have Find the owner of this handkerchief and You may have solved the case. Now, good day! WORSHIP LEADER: And out the door he went That grumpy Mr. Streudal Von Meesterbiscuit! Cue SFX: Jaws sounds FINK: (Standing to his feet, holding the handkerchief) Look, it has a monogram; two letters R - V. Hmmmm. RUFUS: (Still upset) He called me a dog Sir A dog! FINK: (Not paying attention to Rufus) Here, Rufus, smell that! (Puts handkerchief in Rufus face) RUFUS: Do you want me to roll over and play dead? I m not a dog! (Mocking) Woof, woof! FINK: (A little mad) What do you smell? RUFUS: (Sniffing twice) Nothing! FINK: (Patting Rufus on the head) Good boy! That s right! You smell nothing No girlie perfume on this Therefore This belongs To a man! RUFUS: Great! There are only 300,000 men in this city! We re onto something! FINK: Let s go, Rufus,! We re taking this to the street! Cue Background Music: Takin It To The Streets (Doobie Bros) Lady at bus station primping hair, has a 40 s type hat on with netting and 40 s type skirt and jacket she s a high society lady with a georgia peach accent. 4 FINK: Pardon, ma am, I m detective Fink-Minken-Dinken FINK: and this is my partner, Rufus Cue SFX: Dragnet theme Cue SFX: dog bark FINK: Do you recognize this. (Holds up handkerchief) WOMAN: Why, yes! RUFUS: (Excited) Boss, she recognizes it! WOMAN: Why, yes, it s a handkerchief! RUFUS: (Groans, smacks his forehead and looks up) Arrgh! WOMAN: (Touching the corner of the handkerchief as Fink holds it) A rather expensive one, too. FINK: Yes, ma am. Do you know whom it belongs to? WOMAN: Why, no. But look, it says R - V. And I have a cute little dog at home Looks a little bit like your partner And his name is Rusty Velvet. He d look mighty cute in a neckerchief like this one. RUFUS: (Standing behind and to the side of Fink, he gets insulted and puffs up his chest like he wants to get in her face) She called me a dog, sir FINK: (Hand on Rufus shoulder, pushing back) Down, boy, down! (Speaks to woman, again) Madame, could I ask you a tricky question? (Looks to the left and to the right) Do you know the true meaning of Easter? WOMAN: Well, now, of course I do! WOMAN: Why, it s about chicks! FINK AND RUFUS: (In unison) Chicks? Both detective Fink and Rufus bend in closer to hear. WOMAN: Baby chicks, and bunnies, right, kids? KIDS: No! WOMAN: Sure it is It s about spring and flowers and Getting some new life Into your spring wardrobe Right? KIDS: No! 5 WOMAN: Well, then, I ve pretty much covered everything (Thinking deeply) Now, kids, what did I forget? KIDS: Jesus! Cue SFX: bus pulling by WOMAN: (Pointing to it as it whizzes by) Oh, mercy me There goes my bus Come back here (Runs off stage left and out door) How dare you! RUFUS: (Up on toes, hands in air and mad) Well, that was a waste of time! FINK: Heel! (Rufus quickly puts hands down and listens) Let s follow up on this Jesus thing. Come on Let s go. (Exit down center aisle) Cue Music: Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus (short version) Man with briefcase in suit calling for taxi on stage right. Fink and Rufus come up center aisle to meet man. MAN: Taxi! Taxi! (Exasperated) What? They passed me by again. FINK: Sorry to hear that. I m detective Fink-Minken-Dinken FINK:.and this is my partner, Rufus. Cue SFX: Dragnet theme Cue SFX: dog bark MAN: No kiddin That s my dog s name Good ol rufus! German shepherd. Gentle as a dove. Loves kids Rufus puts his head in his hands, frustrated. FINK: Yeah, yeah, hey, listen Do you recognize this And the letters: R - V? MAN: Nope! (Thinking) Hmmm. R.V.? R.V? Somebody rich who made a lot of money selling motor homes. FINK: Could I ask you a quick question? MAN: (Looking out for taxi and calling) Taxi! (Looking back at Fink) Okay, but make it quick. FINK: We are taking a survey on a guy named Jesus He lived a long time ago What do you know about him? MAN: Oh, yeah, I ve heard of him. He s supposedly a good man, a teacher even. 6 RUFUS: (Jumping in by sticking his head into it) But, what about Easter? FINK: Sit! (Rufus immediately squats and then realizes he s not a dog.) MAN: Well, I remember that he got into some trouble and was put to death, and something about an empty tomb But if you really want to know more Check over there (Points to center stage) At that church I m sure they know more than me (Looking for taxi) Taxi! There s my ride! (Runs off stage right and out) FINK: Come on, Fufus, chew on this (Hands him a bubble gum chewy) RUFUS: (Big chewy in mouth, chewing) Thanks! Fink and Rufus, exit down to floor and walk towards center, there they meet the Youth Pastor. YOUTH PASTOR: Excuse me, could I help you? FINK: Yes, I m Detec (Looks into the air like he doesn t want to hear the organ again!) RUFUS: (Frustrated and breaking in) We want to know the true meaning of Easter Do you think you can help us? YOUTH PASTOR: You ve come to the right place! Why don t you join our youth group here. We re about to finish a video about the life of Jesus. FINK: Thanks! (Takes a seat in the back) YOUTH PASTOR: Lights, video Kids, pay attention and we ll discuss the video in just a minute. Cue Video: roll to predetermined spot All watch the final days of Christ and his death and resurrection. YOUTH PASTOR: Lights! Okay, kids, what do you think? KID #1: That was a great movie I like the part when the stone rolled away and he was gone! YOUTH PASTOR: Me, too. The reason we celebrate Easter is because the tomb was empty We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He died but three days later he KIDS: Rose! YOUTH PASTOR: So, Jesus is alive! This is the truth about Easter! KID #2: Thanks for showing us the movie, Mr. Von Meesterbiscuit! 7 FINK AND RUFUS: (In unison) Huh?? YOUTH PASTOR: Please, just call me Rodney! FINK AND RUFUS: (In unison, jump to their feet) R - V.! It s you! FINK: (Running up with Rufus to the front of the stage) Young man, do you recognize this handkerchief!? YOUTH PASTOR: (Taking it) Yes, it s mine! Enter Streudal Von Meesterbiscuit. RUFUS: (Pointing) It s Streudal Von Mister Biscuits! STREUDAL: Ah ha! So, you found him! FINK: How did you know we were here? Cue SFX: Jaws sounds STREUDAL: (Walking over by Rufus, looking at him) I had you Tailed! Rufus looks behind for a tail. STREUDAL: (Still looking at Rufus) And I had you bugged! FINK: What is this all about? Rufus starts scratching at his neck like a dog. STREUDAL: (Walks towards audience taking one end of his cape and waving it in the air) My son (Points to the Youth Pastor) Is a traitor to the family business! He became a traitor When he became a Christian. My son Rodney Von Meesterbiscuit Cue SFX: harp music STREUDAL: (Gets over emotional) Loves Jesus more than he loves Candy! YOUTH PASTOR: There s nothing wrong with selling candy. There s nothing wrong with eating a chocolate Easter egg, but Dad Easter isn t about candy! (Turns to audience) Kids, Easter is about whom? 8 KIDS: World! STREUDAL: What did he come to save us from? KIDS: Sin! RUFUS: (Interrupting) Some people would say chocolate is sinful! (Gets the evil eye from Streudal) STREUDAL: You see! You are a traitor! YOUTH PASTOR: Chocolate isn t sinful Is it kids? KIDS: No! YOUTH PASTOR: Dad, it s our hearts that are sinful and we need to be washed clean of our sin and learn how to live a holy life Instead of a selfish one. We need a savior because we need to be What kids? KIDS: Saved! STREUDAL: And how much money does it cost to be Saved? YOUTH PASTOR: Dad, it s a free gift! Listen to this. Kids, repeat after me: KIDS: After me! YOUTH PASTOR: The gift of God (kids echo) Is eternal life (kids echo) Through Jesus Christ (kids echo) Our Lord (kids echo) Romans 6:23 (kids echo) STREUDAL: Oh, son Could you ever forgive me I thought you were trying to turn the world against me by spreading this truth about Easter! Now I want to turn To the truth! To Jesus! YOUTH PASTOR: I would be honored to lead you in the prayer of salvation! FINK: Well, Rufus What kind of life would we have if we walk away from the truth? Thank you for Easter, And for the empty tomb. Our hearts are filled, With love for Jesus! In Jesus name I pray, And everyone said, So be it!
