Mary Louise (Mel) Bringle is Professor of Religious Studies and Chair of the Humanities Division at Brevard College. Her Ph.D. in Theological Studies is from Emory University. In 2002, she was recognized as the emerging hymn text writer of the United States and Canada. Her original texts and translations are included in two single-author collections and in hymnals and supplements of numerous denominations in North America and Scotland. She currently serves as immediate Past President of The Hymn Society and as chair of the committee charged with creating a new hymnal for the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. She is an Elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
