1 TEXT: Philippians 3:8-10 INTRODCUTION: Text: Philippians 3:8-11 Introduction: DO YOU KNOW MY JESUS? 1. Open your Bibles please to Philippians 3:10 2. Do you know my Jesus? 3. I love to tell the story. 4. It s a Wonderful Story of Love 5. There is no way for us to completely comprehend the beauty, joy and power of his existence. 6. He was not created and never came into being. 7. He was there at the creation of the Universe dwelling in place of such indescribable majesty, power and harmony that words cannot describe it and imaginations cannot comprehend it. 8. And yet, because of his great love for us he, of his own free will, left it all behind and come do earth. 9. He chose to enter this world in the body of a newborn baby, enduring the incredibly physical trauma of childbirth. 10. He could have chosen to be born anywhere, any time at any place. 11. He could have chosen the splendor of Babylon s hanging gardens, the opulence Solomon s palace, excitement of cosmopolitan Corinth or grandeur of mighty Rome. 12. Instead he chose to be born in a barn wrapped in rags and placed in a feeding trough. 13. In spite of its ignoble setting, it was an event so glorious that a star shinned over the place where he was born and angels appeared to shepherds in the field to announce his entrance into the world. 14. He grew up along with his half sisters and his half brothers James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon, as the son of a lowly carpenter in the town of Nazareth. 15. At the age of 30 he entered into his public ministry for a time of about 3 years. 16. He was like no other founder of a religion the world had ever seen. 17. He didn t raise armies of blood thirsty soldiers like Mohamed to convert by the scimitar. 18. He didn t spend a life of idle contemplation like Buddha, or of philosophical speculation like Plato or confuses. 19. He didn t amass a fortune with his teaching like so many have. 20. Instead 21. He healed the hurting, fed the hungry, restored sight the blind and speech to the mute. 22. He proclaimed the most astounding truths ever heard and lived on the face of this earth for 33 years without sin. 23. The prophet Isaiah described Jesus public ministry centuries before it took place with the words: Isaiah 61:1-3 (ESV) 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; 3 to grant to those who mourn in Zion to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may

2 Do You Know My Jesus 2 be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified. 24. To accomplish all of this would require the ultimate sacrifice by the Lord it would require his crucifixion. 25. Because you see, all have sinned Romans 3:23 (ESV) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 26. The verdict is guilty and the penalty is death Romans 6:23 (NKJV) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. 27. But Dave I have lived a good life 28. All the good works the world has ever known cannot erase a single sin. 29. If a good life could save a person, Cornelius would have been saved. Acts 10:1-5 (ESV) 1 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort, 2 a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God. 3 About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, Cornelius. 4 And he stared at him in terror and said, What is it, Lord? And he said to him, Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God. 5 And now send men to Joppa and bring one Simon who is called Peter. Ezekiel 33:12 (ESV) And you, son of man, say to your people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him when he transgresses, and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall by it when he turns from his wickedness, and the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness when he sins. 30. Rock of Ages 2. Not the labors of my hands can fulfill thy law's commands; could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow, all for sin could not atone; thou must save, and thou alone. 3. Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling; Only a sinless savior would do. Hebrews 4:15 (ESV) For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 31. In spite of all the good he had done, He was betrayed by one of his own closest friends crucified by what were supposed to be the most pious men on Earth. DISCUSSION:

He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, I am the Son of God. L. It is finished Hebrews 10:29-30 (ESV) 29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him who said, Vengeance is mine; I will repay. And again, The Lord will judge his people. II. This story is the CRUX of the Bible. A. Whey do people come to church? B. Why do they come to Christ? 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 (ESV) 18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God 2 Corinthians 5:13-17 (ESV) 13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. 16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. III. Do you know my Jesus? A. Paul said Philippians 3:8-10 (ESV) 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, B. Do you know My Jesus?

5 Do You Know My Jesus 5 C. Do you know my Jesus? D. He is my king. The Bible says my King is a seven-way king He's the King of the Jews He's the King of Israel He's the King of Righteousness He's the King of the Ages He's the King of Heaven He's the King of Glory He's the King of kings, and He's the Lord of lords. That's my King. Well...I wonder, do you know Him? David said, "The Heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth His handiwork." My King is a sovereign King. No means of measure can define His limitless love. No far seeing telescope can bring into visibility the coastline of His shoreless supply. No barrier can hinder Him from pouring out His blessings. He's enduringly strong. He's entirely sincere. He's eternally steadfast. He's immortally graceful. He's imperially powerful. He's impartially merciful. Do you know Him? He's the greatest phenomenon that has ever crossed the horizon of this world. He's God's Son. He's the sinner's Savior. He's the centerpiece of civilization. He stands in the solitude of Himself. He's august and unique. He's unparalleled and unprecedented. He is the loftiest idea in literature. He's the highest personality in philosophy. He's the foundational doctrine of true theology. He is the cardinal necessity for true religion. He's the miracle of the ages. He is the superlative of everything good that you choose to call Him.

6 Do You Know My Jesus 6 He's the only one qualified to be an all sufficient Savior. I wonder do you know my Jesus today? He supplies strength for the weak. He's there for the tempted and the tried. He sympathizes and He saves. He strengthens and sustains. He guards and He guides. He heals the sick. He cleansed the lepers. He forgives sinners. He discharges debtors. He delivers the captives. He defends the feeble. He blesses the young. He serves the unfortunate. He regards the aged. He rewards the diligent...and He beautifies the meek. I wonder Do you know My Jesus? My King...He is the King! He's the key to knowledge. He's the wellspring of wisdom. He's the doorway of deliverance. He's the pathway of peace. He's the roadway of righteousness. He's the highway of holiness. He's the gateway of glory. Do you know My Jesus? His office is manifold. His promise is sure...and His light is matchless. His goodness is limitless. His mercy is everlasting. His love never changes. His word is enough. His grace is sufficient. His reign is righteous. His yoke is easy, and his burden is light.

7 Do You Know My Jesus 7 I wish I could describe My Jesus to you, but He's indescribable -- for He is God! He's incomprehensible. He's invincible. He's irresistible. Well, you can't get Him out of your mind. You can't get Him off of your hand. You can't out live Him, and you can't live without Him. The Pharisees couldn't stand Him, but they found out they couldn't stop Him. Pilate couldn't find any fault in Him. The witnesses couldn't get their testimonies to agree. Herod couldn't kill Him. Death couldn't handle Him, and the grave couldn't hold Him. Yes!!!, that's my King, Do you know My Jesus? Yes, and Thine is the Kingdom...and the Power...and the Glory...Forever...and ever, and ever, and ever,nd ever, and ever. E. And when you get through with all of the forevers, the duration of his glory will have just begun. F. When I first these last few words by S. M. Lockridge I was overwhelmed by the rhetorical brilliance of his description of Jesus G. And yet as masterful as those words are, they do not even touch the hem of his garment. CONCLUSION: Galatians 3:27 (ESV) For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 1. Do you know my Jesus? Have you been baptized into him? Are you walking In him?
