But the Bible tells us that love is not about how you feel but how you make someone else feel when you love them. When you love someone, you care more about that person s feelings than your own. Today s scripture talks about marriage how a husband and wife should love each other by putting each other first. That s because Paul wants people to understand that our goal should not be to make ourselves happy but to make other people happy. That is how God loves us, and He asks us to do the same. Weekly Prayer List Del Everett, Carol Hornsby, Joyce Hornsby, Neil Tunison, and Jo Snider Flowers This Morning are Given by Jan and Mike Watsell to the glory of God and gratitude for all His blessings For Our Guests Thank you for taking the time to complete the Guest Information on our attendance registration pad. 2 Soul Food: A Word from Peter Which One? For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one fl esh. - Ephesians 5:51 There is a story about a young couple who fell in love and got married. After a month of serious confl ict, they went back to see their pastor. You told us that in marriage, two people become one, said the husband. That is true, replied the pastor. Well, said the husband, What we want to know is which one? For many years, my marriage with Beth was like that. There was a lot of confl ict and disagreement. Most of our arguments revolved around one basic issue: Why aren t you more like me? It was a shock to discover that we were two selfi sh, stubborn people with very different ideas and priorities. I wanted my way and Beth wanted hers. It took many years for God to change our hearts and make us less selfi sh. In Christian marriage, two become one. That is a spiritual reality. However, it takes many years to grow into that reality. Most of all, we must surrender to the LORD seeking His will, not our own. Sermon Notes: _ Sunday, July 22, :45 a.m. Worship Service FAMILY SUNDAY WE GATHER Welcome and Announcements Ann van der Merwe Ministry Minute Skyler Gerald and Rebecca Waits Chiming of the Hour (Let us prepare our hearts to worship God) Prelude Liezel and Ewan van der Merwe *Call to Worship (1 Corinthians 13:1-3) The Skujins Family Leaders: Suppose I speak in the languages of human beings and of angels.
