2 Course/Module description: The course will present in a critical way theories for family therapy from different periods. We will explore the classical family therapy theories- structural family therapy (Minuchin), self-validation theories (Virginia Satir), transgenerational theories (Bowen) and contemporary theories- narrative family therapy and solutionfocused family therapy. We will also discuss the issue of cultural sensitivity in family therapy and general issues cross theories Course/Module aims: Teach theories, concepts and strategies to family therapy, evaluate the utility of the intervention, and critically discuss each theories to be taught. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: 1. Identify the principles of the theories taught in this course 2. Define core concepts of each theory 3. Compare between the core elements that guide each approach 4. Criticize each theory based on criteria taught in class 5. Conceptualize family problems and intervention strategies according to the family therapy theories taught in this course Attendance requirements(%): 100 Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lecture Watching video clips with family therapy lead by experts in each approach Guest lectures Open discussion Course/Module Content: 1.
