12 INDIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY TAMIL NADU BRANCH ANNUAL REPORT SECRETARY S REPORT Indian Red Cross Society Tamil Nadu Branch is contended to present its Annual Report for the year that brings out various activities successfully accomplished under the able guidance and coherent leadership of all the Office Bearers. We deeply regret the demise of late Padma Bhushan Dr. S.P. AGARWAL, Ex-Secretary General, Indian Red Cross Society, National Headquarters, New Delhi. We would like to thank Thiru Mahim Gupta, President and other Members of Rotary Club of Chennai Kilpauk for sponsoring the Mobility Aids & Distribution of Hearing Aids to the beneficiaries of economically downtrodden community in association with Indian Red Cross Society Tamil Nadu Branch on three different occasions during the year at Red Cross premises. The team of Artificial Limb Centre of IRCS TN Branch did wonderful Job in timely mobilizing all the mobility Aides. We would like to thank to IRCS Dindigul Branch Office Bearers and Members for organizing SDRT Training Programme and Mockdrill Events in a grand manner under DM Programme during the year under review. We would like to convey our thanks to all the Principals, YRC Zonal Co-ordinator and Programme Officers for effectively organizing the Swatch Bharat Abhiyan Campaign in their respective Colleges. The Free Hearse Van Services of the Govt. of Tamil Nadu implemented by IRCS TNB has so far (upto 31 st March 2016) transported 3,24,879 corpses since its inception. Similarly, Janani Sishu Suraksha Karyakram, a Project of Govt. of India introduced as Pilot Project by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu through IRCS TNB under Mother & Child Drop Back Programme, has, so far provided free transportation to 46,433 Mothers with Babies to their respective residences, since commencement of the Project. We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Project Director, TNHSP, Railway Authorities and District Red Cross Branches towards their wholehearted support and cooperation in this regard. Day Care Hospital functioning at Indian Red Cross Society Tamil Nadu Branch premises completed 18 years of Service to the poor and downtrodden community. During this year, 22,402 people were benefitted through this Hospital. The Services of IRCS TNB Urban Family Welfare Centre at Chintadripet remained commendable. During this year 21,357 beneficiaries including women and children in and around Chintadripet availed best Health Care through this Centre. 409 Women were benefitted under Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme of Govt. of Tamil Nadu and 76 Newly Married females were benefitted under Muvalur Ramamirtham Scheme of Govt. of Tamil Nadu. A State of the Art Blood Bank is functioning 24 x 7 in IRCS TNB. During the year , 106 Blood Donation Camps were conducted, in which, 8166 Units of Whole Human Blood were collected. Physiotherapy and Fitness Centre of IRCS TNB has been providing treatment for various types of Orthopaedic and Neurological problems, like, Stroke, Cerebral Palsy and even mentally retarded children. During this year 9, 061 cases were successfully treated by this Centre.
15 YRC & JRC Units in Tamil Nadu have shown tremendous improvement. During the year 1,340 Colleges were enrolled under YRC through which 15,34,267 College Students became YRC Volunteers. Similarly under JRC 1,066 High Schools, 2,384 Higher Secondary Schools, 394 Matriculation Schools, 358 Middle Schools were registered and 4,20,200 students enrolled as JRC Volunteers during this year. Under Fund Raising there has been considerable increase in the enrolment of Patrons,Vice Patrons, Life Members and Annual Members during this year. The activities of Family News Service (Tracing Cell) was appreciable with many success stories of re-unification of the family Members with the support of ICRC and IRCS, NHQ. We extend our sincere thanks for the wholehearted support and co-operation rendered by ICRC, IRCS NHQ and Govt. of Tamil Nadu. The Family Counseling Centre of IRCS TNB has successfully completed 16 years of uninteeupted Service to the Community. Counselors of this Centre have counseled 187 cases of various types during this year. The Project on School Health & Hygiene Promotion supported by M/s Michelin India Tyres Pvt. Ltd. had continued to render various services for the betterment of Students in 27 Govt. Schools of Ellapuram & Gummidipoondi Blocks of Tiruvallur District during this year under review. The Project on Build Back Better School supported by Verizon Foundation ( USA) had continued to render services for the benefit of the Students at Govt. Primary School, Kullanchavadi, in Cuddalore District and also supported for the School development. RELIEF ACTIVITIES IRCS Tamil Nadu Branch provided relief materials to the victims of floods and fire throughout Tamil Nadu, during the year under review, on need basis. Besides above, IRCS TNB distributed 20,100 food packets and 10,500 liters of Milk to the needy public at different locations. Relief Materials were also distributed to 7499 flood affected victims belonging to Greater Chennai Region. In addition to the above, 2,025 Sets of Relief Materials were also distributed to the needy through Districts / Sub Branches. Thus, in all, = 9524 sets of Relief Materials were distributed by IRCS TNB to various Flood victims within Tamil Nadu.. IV. VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION CAMPS The Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch is running a 24x7 Licensed State of the Art Blood Bank which had organized 106 Voluntary Blood Donation Camps and collected 8166 units of Whole Human Blood during the year under review units of Blood were issued on requisition to various Hospitals on payment of screening charges, 257 units of Blood issued free of cost to deserving cases, referred by various Government Hospitals and 240 Blood Groupings were also done during various Camps conducted during the year COMPONENT SEPARATION UNIT The following quantity of blood components, like, Packed Red Blood Cells, Fresh Frozen Plasma and Platelet Concentrate were separated with sophisticated modern equipments and supplied to the Hospitals and Nursing Homes on requisition. URBAN FAMILY WELFARE CENTRE The Urban Family Welfare Centre has rendered another year of yeoman services to the locals of Chintadripet. 19 Indradanush Children Immunisation camp was held from to in which 184 children benefitted. Vitamin-A Solution camp was held from to in which 3,568 children were benefitted. The Nurse Aid students of Red Cross participated as Volunteers to mobilize and motivate the children, at door step. Medical Camp and T.T Vaccination Camp were held from to at flood affected areas of Chindadripet, in which, 324 people were benefitted besides 92 conservative workers who came from various District areas for cleaning process at Chennai City areas. The Medical Team of UFWC participated in Medical Relief activities of flood victims along with Corporation of Chennai Flood Relief Medical team. From to Measles Vaccination Camp was conducted by the Medical Team of UFWC along with Corporation of Chennai Medical team for the children aging between 9 months to 15 yrs in flood affected areas including School Medical Checkup and Vaccination Camps, in which, 1,492 children were benefitted. PULSE POLIO IMMUNISATION PROGRAMME PHASE I Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch conducted the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign from to (7days) in first phase to cover the children up to 5 years with Polio Immunisation, as per the instructions of Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu. The total population in the area in Chindadripet at Chennai is 52,517, of which 4,463 are below 5 years. The Nurse Aid Students of Indian Red Cross Society worked as Volunteers to mobilise and motivate the children, to avail Pulse Polio Immunisation at their door steps. During the Ist phase 5,206 children (743 children from outside area) were immunised through 9 fixed and 3 Transit booths. The Second phase of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign was held from to MEASLES CAMP: From to Measles Vaccination Camp was conducted by the Medical Team of UFWC along with Corporation of Chennai Medical team for the the children in the age group of less than 15 yrs belonging to the flood affected families, in which 1,030 children were benefitted. INDRADANUSH IMMUNISASTION CAMP: Indhradanush Children Immunisation camps were held from to and to in which, 366 children were benefitted.
20 PULSE POLIO IMMUNISATION PROGRAMME PHASE II Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch conducted the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign from to (7days) in Second phase to cover the children up to 5 years of age with Polio Immunisation, as per the instructions of Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu. The total population in Chindadripet at Chennai is 52,517, of which 4,512 are below 5 years of age. The Nurse Aid Students of Indian Red Cross Society worked as Volunteers to mobilise and motivate the children, at door step. During the IInd phase 5,255 children (728 children from outside area) were immunised through 9 fixed and 3 Transit booths. These are being undertaken every year with the support of Corporation of Chennai. OTHER PROGRAMMES: Special Oral Polio Vaccine camp for children below 5 years of age children was conducted from to , in which, 818 children were administered for polio vaccine in addition to regular camps.
