2 F R. G R E G S N O T E! Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice. ~ John 18:37 ~ On this last Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. This feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI in It was a time when the world was experiencing a rise of secularism, materialism, individualism, and an increasing denial of Christ s existence and authority. This feast was established in hopes to accomplish three things. One, to remind the world that the Church has the right to freedom. Two, to give more respect to Jesus Christ as the King of kings. And three, to strengthen and encourage the faithful that Christ must reign in our hearts, minds, wills, and bodies. For those reasons this feast is needed more than ever. As Christian Stewards it also reminds us of three vital truths and principles to live by. First, even when it seems the world is spinning out of control, we should not fear. The fact is, we have a King of kings who is very much in charge and who is loving, merciful and just. Second, since Christ the King is king of all, then He is also king of me, personally. I am not lord of my own life including my time, talents, and treasure. He is. I am a servant of the King and a steward of His gifts to me. I do with those gifts what he would want me to do with them. Third, as His disciple, I am called to imitate my King. Christ s kingship is characterized by humble service, by emptying Himself for the good of others. The Scriptures tell us He went about doing good. He says of Himself in Matthew 20:28, I came not to be served but to serve. If I am a believer, how can I live in any other way than as a humble servant like my King? Faith Formation will be held on Sundays in December at the Parish House from 9:45-10:45 a.m.: December 2, 9, 16th. Penance Service at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. St. Alexius Church will be giving out Christmas Stockings with goodies to children of the parish, baby thru 6th grade on Sunday, Dec. 16th after Mass in church basement. All new parishioners and babies will receive new stockings; others, please return your stocking by December 9th in the box in church entry. A list of families whose stockings I have will be posted on the box. If you have questions, contact Barb or All parishioners are invited to hear Father talk about his ministry December 9th at 7 pm in the church. Following the presentation, the St. Joseph Society meeting will take place in the basement. All men of the parish are welcome to join us! Our Christmas get together for the Christian Mothers will be held December 2nd at 7 p.m. in the church basement. We will have a short meeting with games to follow. All women of the parish are invited and welcome to attend. Please bring a potluck dish to share for our Christmas get together and enjoy some food and fellowship with other women of the parish. Our servers are Julie Bottelberghe, Barb Bentfield and Emily Backowski. The Christian Mothers will be making care packages for the homebound and elderly Christian Mothers of the parish. If you would like to donate items to put in their care packages, please leave in the back of church marked Christian Mother s or bring to the meeting December 2 nd. Some items they might be able to use are stamps, greeting cards, treats, chapstick, lotions etc. Thank you. Jesus Baby Shower: All are welcome to participate in the Jesus Baby Shower. If you have extra rosaries around or you make them and would like to donate them to St. Joseph s in Migori, there is a baskets in St. Paul s and Our Lady of the Angels that you can put them in.
