The adult and children s Sunday School will combine on November 30 for an Advent project led by Luke and Amanda Green called The Cross of Advent in the Parish Hall. A good time will be had by all! Please place items for LWR Health Kits in the green box in the Narthex. A printed list of items needed is provided at the Information Counter. Check the suggested gift list on the information counter. It's time to sign up for the Annual Christmas Buffet! Sign up to bring a dish to share or contribute to the cost of ham and turkeys. Punch and fellowship begin at 5:30 p. m., dinner is at about 6:00 p. m., and a short program will follow dinner. Join the fun! Beginning Nov. 23 there will be an Alternative Giving table in the narthex with Good Gifts catalogs from the ELCA and catalogs from Heifer Project International, along with gift cards to give to recipients. Consider giving a chick, or a duck, or a pig as a gift this year! THANKS FOR YOUR GENEROSITY Once again the members of OLLC have shown their generosity through the contributions that were made to purchase the new refrigerator for the kitchen. The contributions combined with the matching funds were sufficient to pay for the refrigerator which has been purchased, installed and is now in use. Thanks to Wayne, Cal, & Fred for removing the old refrigerator, and for cleaning, stripping the floor underneath the refrigerator. Thirty (30) beautiful poinsettias have been ordered for Our Lord s Christmas Eve Service. Please sign up for one or more on the counter in the Narthex. They are $7.00 each. (Those who sign up by December 14 will be listed in the Christmas Eve bulletin.) The Our Lord's Lutheran Church Men's Group will host a special guest speaker at it's December 4th meeting at 6:30 pm. Worship for the Celebration of Advent Nov 23, 30, Dec 7, 14, 2014 Our Lord s Lutheran Church , Holiness Please help us to be good stewards of our environment! 4 Welcome to Worship! LAMB OF GOD As we gather for worship in this time of Advent, we focus on worshiping in this midst of waiting, preparing, and re-focusing for the time when Christ comes again. We do this while keeping an eye to all three ways in which we celebrate Christ coming again. First, the remembrance of the coming so many years ago in the manger. Second, the way Christ comes into our lives each day, bringing forth healing and a new creation. And third, the way Christ will come at the end of the age to bring a new heaven and a new earth. During these four weeks, we will have four spaces for contemplation: Spaciousness: God makes space for you with love, even with all of your doubts, shortcomings, mistakes, misunderstandings, and sin. Breathe deep in your place in God s kingdom. Graciousness: God is waiting for us, even as we are waiting for God. God s patience with us, and commitment to bring good out of our folly, as we grow into our new life in baptism is beyond all human comprehension. Dare to claim the new life which is waiting for you. Loveliness: Being is God s light is a lovely place to be. Sometimes it is easier to focus on the darkness and try to fix the world. Sometimes we want to stay in the darkness for fear of what the light will show about ourselves. Bask in the rays of God s light, God s love, and trust that God s light will make you lovely. Holiness: In a different way for each of us, we are set aside as Holy. Our calls might not be as dramatic as the call of Mary, but we are each called to bring God s love into the world in some way. Accept the blessing in this time set aside for worship, that may you see how you are called, and may you find deep awe in this. We are the clay and You are our potter; we are all the work of the Lord s hand. Isaiah 64:8b HYMNS DURING COMMUNION Nov 23 Dec Change My Heart (3X) 246 Hark, There s a Thrilling Voice 257 O Come, O Come Emmanuel 257 O Come, O Come Emmanuel (traditional tune) Nov 30 Dec 14 (traditional tune) 496 One Bread, One Body 244 Rejoice, Rejoice Believers 257 O Come, O Come Emmanuel 257 O Come, O Come Emmanuel (traditional tune) BLESSING AFTER COMMUNION Let us rise as we are able. May the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ, Bless you, and keep you in His strength, Both now and forever. Amen (traditional tune)
Holy God, we long for your Spirit. Bring the gift of peace on earth. Come, Holy Spirit. All praise and glory are yours, Holy One of Israel, Word of God incarnate, Power of the Most High, one God, now and forever. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. COMMUNION The presiding minister invites the people gathered to renew their connection to the body of Christ. Christ sets a table for us, that as we wait and as we watch, we may know a foretaste of the feast to come. Let us be seated, for all is prepared. When giving the bread and cup, the communion ministers say The body of Christ, given for you. The blood of Christ, shed for you. and each person responds: Worship Notes: Prayer Requests and Announcements: The green cards in the pew racks have one side for prayer requests and the other for announcements. If you have announcements and prayer requests, please follow these simple guidelines: Use separate cards for announcements and prayer requests; limit announcements to events concerning the mission and ministry of the whole congregation and save personal sharing for coffee hour; write legibly. Please fill out these cards at the beginning of worship. The ushers will pick them up during the hymn of the day. About Communion: In following the tradition of Jesus eating at the tables of all kinds, with all peoples, we practice Eucharistic hospitality, which means you are welcome. In tradition, this is Christ s meal of renewal for those who have been baptized and have received some type of instruction regarding the importance and holiness of being in communion with God. In scripture, Christ invites all to His table. You are welcome at Christ s table, and strongly encouraged to be in conversation with the pastor, and prayer with God, if you have not yet received baptism, or have been baptized but have not received instruction. Communion without baptism is incomplete. Children are welcome when their parents/guardians believe they can understand that this is a special time where they receive God s love. Until this time, children are offered a grape instead. The simplest way to understand the manner in which we receive communion is to watch the people who go ahead of you. It is easier to see than to read. As the usher guides you, take a glass from the tray, circle up around the altar and kneel or stand as you are able, receive communion, take a moment to pray if you wish, then leave down the side steps behind you and place your cup in the basket at the front row. If you need grape juice, please indicate this by placing your hand over your glass as the chalice (the fancy cup) approaches. If the steps are a challenge for you, you may stand at the base of the steps or stay in your place, and the servers are glad to come to you. If you stay in your place, please make sure to catch the attention of the usher. For Guests: Thank you for blessing us with your presence today! It is our prayer that you will encounter God s love in this place! We love to greet our guests and have them sign the guestbook, but we ll never point you out in worship or make you stand up. Please feel free to share as much or as little information as you like. Coffee, doughnuts, and lots of laughter usually happen after worship in the fellowship hall, which through the doors next to the coat racks. Please join us for this time also, and check out our web page for more information about who we are, how we live in the power of the trinity, and what we believe. OLLC.org. Our time together for worship typically lasts at least an hour and fifteen minutes. Our hearts are just too full of praise to limit ourselves to an hour. If you have reason to leave a bit before we conclude, we won t judge you. We are thankful that you joined us for the time that you did, and hope you will return!
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS Let us rise as we are able and face the baptismal font, a place where Christ forgives our sin and we join into the body of Christ. As we begin, all make the sign of the cross, the sign with which we are sealed at baptism. In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: prepare in us the way of the Lord by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may be molded into your image and clothed in your salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. The presiding minister continues: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise... Here the minister continues with the preface for the day, concluding:... we praise your name and join their unending hymn: Silence is kept for reflection. Most merciful God, we confess that we do not wait upon you, but turn into ourselves, seeking hope, peace, joy, and love in our own power, in the power of the world, and in material goods. When we try to give up these things, we find that only your grace can free us. At times, our faith has been half-hearted, not trusting in you and not giving ourselves to our neighbors. Sometimes we have sinned by failing to prepare the Way, sometimes by causing road blocks for others, and sometimes by not even noticing where we need to prepare the road. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, who is coming into the world even now, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Holy One, the beginning and the end, the giver of life: Let us proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. With this bread and cup We look with hope for his coming. Come, Lord Jesus.
Meal OFFERING An offering is gathered for the mission of the church, including the care of those in need. During this time, the table is set and the choir offers a gift of music. After the offering is gathered, the assembly stands. Bread, wine, money, and other gifts are brought forward. A Noisy Offering will be collected by the children as the gifts are brought forward to help purchase animals for people in need through ELCA good gifts! Please pass the loose change for this offering to the center isle for quick collecting. OFFERTORY SONG (to be sung acapella, in order to hear the beauty of each other s voices) Praise God from whom al blessings flow. Praise God, all creatures, here below. Praise God above, ye heavenly hosts. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! After the table is set, the assisting minister leads the assembly in prayer. God of abundance, we bring before you the precious fruits of your creation, and with them our very lives. Teach us patience and hope as we care for all those in need until the coming of your Son, our Savior and Lord. The presiding minister announces God's forgiveness with these or similar words. In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ came into the world to live among us in great love, To show us what it means to live in God s kingdom To die on our behalf, and will come again, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. GATHERING HYMN Nov My Lord, What a Morning Nov Comfort Comfort Now My People Dec. 7 Bringing in the Sheaves (see insert) Dec Canticle of the Turning GREETING The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. KYRIE GREAT THANKSGIVING
Other petitions regarding specific situations in the community are added. The presiding minister concludes: Into your hands, gracious God, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through Jesus Christ, our Savior. PEACE The presiding minister and the assembly greet each other in the peace of the risen Christ. The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. The people share a sign of God s peace with one another using the words, Peace be with you. The assembly is seated.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE GLORY TO GOD
PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray. A brief silence is kept before the prayer. After the prayer the assembly responds: The assembly is seated. Word FIRST READING A reading from. God s Word, coming to us. Thanks be to God. PSALM The psalm for the day is sung. SECOND READING A reading from. God s Word, coming to us. Thanks be to God. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION CANTOR Leader The assembly is seated. SERMON Silence for reflection follows the sermon. HYMN OF THE DAY The assembly stands to proclaim the word of God in song. Nov Lo! He Comes on Clouds Descending Nov On Jorden s Banks the Baptist Cries Dec There s a Wideness Dec The Angel Gabriel Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
