2 Gathering around God s Word PROCESSIONAL HYMN Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty, PH 482 CHIMES GREETINGS and ANNOUNCEMENTS Please sign and pass the fellowship pad to the inside aisle. OPENING PRAYER unison Infinite and intimate God your power and glory are beyond our imagining; you hold the universe in the palm of your hand. And yet you are tender and compassionate, abounding in steadfast love, as close to us as the beating of our hearts. We praise you, O God, for both sides of your greatness. Inspire us to awe and wonder that we may worship you in humble gratitude. Befriend us and touch us with your Spirit that we may aspire to servanthood in the name of Christ our Brother, Teacher, Savior, and Lord. Amen. CALL to WORSHIP responsively ~from Jeremiah 31 & Psalm 51 Leader: What shall we render to the Lord for all God s benefits toward us? All: We will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord. Leader: Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. All: Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia! Leader: O taste and see that the Lord is good. All: Blessed are they who trust in the Lord! OPENING HYMN of PRAISE Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise, PH 263 CONFESSION and time of Self-examination responsively Leader: Almighty God, you love us, but we do not love you fully. All: Too often we walk away from neighbors in need, wrapped up in our own concerns. Leader: And we have condoned evil, hatred, warfare, and greed, if not by our actions then by our inaction. All: God of grace, help us to admit our sin, so that as you move toward us in mercy we may repent, turn to you, receive forgiveness, and live a new life. 2
3 SILENT PRAYER of CONFESSION And all of God s children say: Amen! SUNG RESPONSE You Are My All in All, CH 583 DECLARATION OF PARDON responsively ~ from Psalm 51 Leader: Hear the Good News: those who are in Christ are a new creation; the old has passed away and the new has come. Our Savior Christ personally bore our sins in his body on the cross that we might be dead to sin and alive to all that is good. All: We believe the Good News of the Gospel: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven and made new. Thanks be to God! GLORIA PATRI PASSING the PEACE of CHRIST May the Peace of Christ be with you! And also with you! SONG of PREPARATION Men of Faith, Rise up and Sing, GtG 319 Encountering God s Word PRAYER for ILLUMINATION unison Gracious God, open our hearts and minds to what you say to us today. Since we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth, make us hunger for this heavenly food that it may nourish us in the ways of eternal life; through Jesus Christ the Bread of Heaven. Amen. CHILDREN S MESSAGE Lift Miss Jane THE ANTHEM 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) Words and Music by Jonas Myrin and Matt Redman Arranged by Heather Sorenson SCRIPTURE for the SERMON Isaiah 40:21-31 (NRSV) 21 Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, 3
4 and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in; 23 who brings princes to naught, and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing. 24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blows upon them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. 25 To whom then will you compare me, or who is my equal? says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? He who brings out their host and numbers them, calling them all by name; because he is great in strength, mighty in power, not one is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. 30 Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; 31 but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. The Word of God Thanks be to God! MORNING MESSAGE Like Eagles Rev. Bob Willits Responding to God s Word OFFERING AND DEDICATION PRAYER 4 unison ~from Romans 12, The Message Lord, we know what you want us to do: to take everything, ordinary life our sleeping, eating, going to work, and walkingaround life and place it before you as an offering. You have given us your best. Now in deep gratitude we give our best to you. We are the body of Christ; it is in Christ s name that we pray. Amen.
