1 Central Florida PREP Chapter Meeting Minutes Meeting Date: February 17, 2015 Location: Volusia County Clerk of the Circuit Court 101 N. Alabama Ave. Deland, FL Attendance: 42 - Registration sheets attached Meeting Topic: An Overview of Legal Descriptions, Plats, and Surveys Guest speaker: Teresa Brown Residential Production Manager Maitland Office Fidelity National Title Group Teresa Brown is a training examiner on how to read and understand legal descriptions. Agenda: Registration Welcome, Introductions, and Announcements Presentation Wrap-up and Plans for Next Meeting Discussion/Presentation: Meeting was called to order at 11:00am by Holly Vaughn, Government Co-Chair. Each person introduced themselves and the agency he/she represented. County updates were provided and reviewed by the following counties: Lake County: Rick Whilden Brevard County: Pete Griffin (Pete also indicated that Brevard is currently seeking an RFP for back file imaging). Volusia County: Rachel Wilson Orange County: Peggy Meinhardt An update was provided by Seminole County Clerk s Office. However, they were not in attendance. Melodye Marvin with Fidelity National Title Group provided an industry update in which she stated there is an increase in activity, including refinancing. At 11:45am, Holly Vaughn introduced the guest speaker, Teresa Brown. Teresa Brown provided an overview of legal descriptions, plats, and surveys. She provided a history of townships and government surveys. She also explained various types of legal descriptions including sectional legal descriptions, metes and bounds legal descriptions, and platted and unplatted subdivisions. Surveys were also discussed. Documentation of topic is attached. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 12:54 PM. Next Meeting: May19, 2015, topic and location to be determined 1
