2 Pre cass a ct i v it Precass Centers As the chidren arrive, guide them to a precass center. Have no more than six chidren at each center. Materias Use the materias previousy seected for this unit s precass centers. Preparation 1. Be sure to check the condition of the materias seected for this unit s precass centers prior to set up. Repace any broken toys, or puzzes with missing pieces as necessary. 2. Set up the centers before the chidren come into the cassroom. 3. Assign a teacher to each center and have the teachers stay in those centers unti the singing begins. Instructions Guide the pay in each center reinforcing the unit theme. Teacher Tips IMPORTANT: Do not aow any sma toys in the cassroom. First check a toys for size. You can obtain a safety cyinder from a pediatrician. Any object that can fit into the cyinder is too sma and coud cause a chid to choke. Be invoved in the group pay and offer guidance as needed. Wear comfortabe cothes suitabe for sitting on the foor. Bibe Story Text Luke 2:8-20 Materias For the teacher: Bibe nativity scene from the Unit 16 Lesson 3, Bibe Story fet board from Unit 16 Lesson 3, Bibe Story fet board figures from the Unit 16 Lesson 3, Bibe Story tape Preparation Pace a piece of tape on the back of each fet board figure. Friends Pace the shepherds on the fet board. Open the Bibe and show the nativity scene. Who can te me who the specia baby was that God sent? That s right! God sent baby Jesus. And who were the mommy and daddy that God chose for baby Jesus? Joseph and Mary. Point to the shepherds. Does anyone know who these men are? They are shepherds! What do shepherds do? Point to the sheep. Shepherds take care of the sheep. What do sheep s ay? Baa! Baa! Have the chidren hep you put the sheep on the fet board. The Bibe says that a of a sudden, the sky it up with a big ight. The shepherds ooked up into the sky. Do you know what was making the ight? Pace a piece of yeow fet on the fet board and the ange on top of it. It was an ange! Have you ever seen an ange? The Bibe s ays that the shepherds were afraid when the y saw the ange (Luke 2:8-9). Do you know where anges come from? They come from God. God sent the ange. Do you think God want - ed the shepherds to be afraid? No! The ange said, Don t be afraid. I bring you good news! Jesus has been born! (Luke 2:10-11). The ange tod them that they woud find Jesus wrapped in a banket, ying in a manger (Luke 2:12). The shepherds were happy! Bab y Jesus was born! Add a of the anges to the fanne board. The anges and the shepherds were happy and said thank you to God for sending baby Jesus. Remove the fet board and bring out the nativity scene. The shep - erds found the baby, just ike the ange had said. He was wrapped in a banket, in the stabe, ying in a manger. The shepherds coudn t wait to te everyone that Jesus was born! (Luke 2:13-20). (Luke 2:11) Materias For the teacher: star from the Unit 16 Lesson 3, Life Appication garand haos from the Unit 16 Lesson 3, Life Appication tabe or arge cardboard box, arge enough to fit at east one chid arge sheet or tabecoth, arge enough to hang over three sides of a tabe sma baby do baby banket shoe box or other box to hod baby do tape toy, stuffed or homemade sheep green towe or construction paper as grass hand towes and scarves for shepherds Preparation 1. Wrap the baby do in the banket and pace it in the shoe box as a manger. 2. Before the chidren arrive: A. Drape the sheet over three of the sides of the tabe to form a stabe. B. Pace the manger inside the stabe. C. Tape the star to the top edge of the tabe. Instructions Put on a siver garand hao. Who can te me who it was who tod Mary the good news? An ange! Where do anges come from? Anges come from God. What did the ange te Mary? You wi have a baby. His name wi be Jesus. Was Mary happy? Yes, she was! And did she have a baby? Yes, she did! Show the baby in the manger. What was the baby s name? Jesus! Where was Jesus born? In a stabe with the animas. What did God put in the sky when Jesus was born? Point to the star. A very specia star. Put a siver garand hao on each chid s head. Let s a pretend to be anges. After Jesus was born, God sent a ot of anges to te everyone to sing about him. Sing Baby Jesus Was Born from the Unit 16 Song Sheet. The anges sang and tod some shepherds that Jesus was born. Who knows what a shepherd is? A shepherd is a person who takes care of sheep. We have anges; now we need some shepherds. Dress some chidren as shepherds by pacing a hand towe on the chid s head and tying it in pace with a scarf. Put the sheep and the grass on the foor. Let s pretend it is nighttime. The sheep are seeping. Now the anges come and ight up the sky, and they a re singing and praising God. They s ay to the shepherds, Do not be afraid! Be happy! Jesus has been born! Anges, et s a say that together. Do not be afraid! Be happy! Jesus has been born! Shepherds, ook happy! Cap your hands! Do you want to go and see Jesus? Show the shepherds baby Jesus in the manger. Have the shepherds take turns picking up, hoding and genty giving baby Jesus a hug. Sing Baby Jesus Was Born From the Unit 16 Song Sheet. 7 C raf t Shepherd s Hat The chidren wi make a shepherd s hat to reinforce the esson that the shepherds heard the good news of Jesus birth. Materias For each chid: water-based markers gue stick For the teacher: scissors od sheets or fabric marker yard stick or tape measure Reproducibe Pages: Page A, 1 copy for every 6 chidren Preparation 1. Cut a 20" x 20" square for each chid from the sheets. 2. Cut a 30" strip for each chid from the sheets. 3. Cut out the text boxes from the copies of Reproducibe Page A. 4. Make a mode of the craft foowing the instructions. Instructions 1. Put on the mode shepherd s hat. Pretend to be a shepherd hearing the good news of Jesus birth from the anges. 2. Give each chid a square of fabric to coor with markers. 3. Give each chid a text box to gue aong the edge of the fabric square. 4. Give each chid a strip of fabric to coor with markers. 5. Hep the chidren to put on their shepherd s hats by pacing it on their head with the fat edge against their foreheads. Tie the fabric strip around their heads to hod the hat in pace. Concusion Have the chidren pretend to be shepherds visiting baby Jesus. They can pretend to go and te a friend the good news. (Luke 2:11) Materias For the teacher: cards from the Unit 16 Lesson 3, Life Appication Preparation Famiiarize yoursef with the game. Instructions For younger chidren, pay the game as foows: 1. Show the chidren one card of each pair and et them te you what it is. This wi hep them to recognize the cards during the game. 2. Give each chid a card and put the matches to their cards on the foor, face up. 3. Ask each chid, Can you find the match to your card? If they need hep you might say, I see you have a picture of an ange. Where is the other picture of an ange? When they find the match, et them hod the pair. 4. Tak to the chidren about the cards that were just chosen. Who remembers what the anges said to the shepherds? Good news. Jesus has been born! 5. The game is over when a of the cards are picked up. If there is time, pay again. For oder chidren, pay the game as foows: 1. Show the chidren one card of each pair and et them te you what it is. This wi hep them to recognize the cards during the game. 2. Mix up the cards and pace them face down in four rows of four. 3. Let each chid take a turn fipping over two cards. If the chid finds a match et him hod the pair. 4. If no match is found, have the chid turn the cards over and et another chid try to match a pair. 5. Tak to the chidren about the cards that were just chosen. I see you picked up a star. Why did God put a specia star in the sky? Because baby Jesus was born! Encourage the oder chidren to repeat the answer with you. 6. The game is over when a of the cards are picked up. If there is time, pay again. Bibe Truth Activity Ask the chidren, Who did God send? 13 suppement C raf t Fying Ange The chidren wi make an ange to remind them of the good news of Jesus birth. Materias For each chid: 1 arge Styrofoam paper pate 1 siver pipe ceaner 5 cotton bas gue stick For the teacher: 1 arge piece of white poster board bue construction paper siver foi star stickers scissors gue back marker hoe punch tape Reproducibe Pages: Page B, 1 copy for each chid Preparation 1. Cut around the anges from the copies of Reproducibe Page B. 2. Gue the anges onto the posterboard and cut them out. This wi make them more sturdy. 3. Punch a hoe on each side tab of the anges where indicated. 4. Cut out the text boxes from the copies of Reproducibe Page B. 5. Cut a 5 1 / 2 " circe from bue construction paper for each chid. 6. Gue each circe onto the midde of a pate. 7. Punch two hoes on the edges of each pate. See Figure A. 8. Make a mode of the craft foowing the instructions. Instructions 1. Show the chidren the mode of the craft. What is this? That s right! This is an ange! Where do anges come from? They come from God. Show the chidren how to make the ange fy (side the ange back and for th genty on the pipe ceaner). 2. Give each chid a pate and a text box to gue on the back of the pate. 3. Give each chid five cotton bas. Have them genty pu them apart and gue them onto haf of the bue circe on the pate. 4. Have the chidren put five siver stars on the other haf of the bue circe. 5. Give each chid an ange and a pipe ceaner. Hep the chidren to run one end of the pipe ceaner through one of the hoes in the pate. Tape the end of the pipe ceaner securey to the back of the pate. 6. Hep the chidren to thread the pipe ceaner through the hoes on the ange. See Figure B. 7. Hep the chidren side the free end of the pipe ceaner into the remaining hoe on the pate. Tape the end of the pipe ceaner securey to the back of the pate. 8. Hep the chidren to write their names on their crafts. Concusion Show the chidren how to make their anges fy across the sky by genty moving the anges back and forth across the pipe ceaner. Sing Baby Jesus Was Born from the Unit 16 Song Sheet. Teacher Tips Have the chidren gue feathers on the anges as wings. Make the copies of the ange on cardstock instead of guing them to posterboard and then cutting them out.
