1 Homeowner Reminders NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2008 New HOA Website! In recent weeks you may have noticed the HOA website getting a facelift. We are updating our website both to give homeowners better access to information, but also to begin to utilize the web to better communicate with our members. This new effort is being done entirely by volunteers from our community. As a part of this, the Ranches Board of Trustees has authorized the creation of a web committee. This group of people will work to leverage web technologies to increase the amount of information available to homeowners, as well as broaden the ways homeowners can become involved in making our community a better place. We need your help. Do you have technology skills, or simply want to help? If so, we want you! The new web design is intended only as a jumping off point for this new initiative. With your support we can improve what we have, create new tools, and find new ways to encourage homeowner participation. Our HOA is run by the homeowners and strives to serve the members by creating a beautiful community and maintaining property values. By working together we can continue to make our community a better place to live. If you are interested in becoming involved with the Web Committee please Jon Barclay at jonbarclay@gmail.com. Delegate Still Needed! A new delegate is still needed for the following subdivision: District #5: Circle 5 Ranch (Lone Tree Subdivision) If you live in this district and would be interested in participating as your area Delegate or would like more information regarding the job duties and/or requirements, please e- mail Cary Brackett at Cary@qmsUtah.com. INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Homeowner Reminders New Updates & General Reminders Holiday Volunteer Opportunities Homeowner Recognition Corner Community calendar/ Board & Committee info Office Information December Yard of the Month! Don t forget! The December Yard of the Month winners will be chosen based upon lighting display and holiday décor. Please call the office or Cody at Cody@qmsutah.com with your nominations by December 10th! Be creative, have fun, and happy holiday decorating!
2 NEW UPDATES & GENERAL REMINDERS PAGE 2 General Rules Reminders Pruning Trees! As it grows colder and leaves are falling off the trees, now is a good time to prepare your trees for the winter weather. It is important to prune dead, broken, and damaged limbs from trees to help reduce the risk of infecting your trees with bacteria or fungus from the decaying branches. Trimming lowhanging branches also helps trees to grow straight and tall. Plus, it keeps us from clothes-lining our neighbors as they walk by our trees. Hey, and while you re at it, don t forget to rake those leaves! Holiday Decorations Please remember that all holiday decorations must be removed within 2 weeks from the end of the holiday. This means all Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, and Eid al- Adha decorations must be removed by the second week of January to prevent any unsightliness in our community. We do understand the danger of removing Christmas lights in bad weather and will be flexible regarding their removal if inclement weather persists. Garbage Cans With slippery roads from ice and snow, the last thing anyone needs is another obstacle to overcome when driving like garbage cans. Please remember to remove your garbage cans from the streets after the garbage is collected to remove this road hazard and visual impairment. Our bumpers will thank you! Snow Fall Ready or not, here comes the cold & snow! As snow fall comes, please remember to keep your sidewalks clear. Snowy sidewalks are very dangerous for anyone who comes in contact with the slippery surface. So, please make sure you are clearing your sidewalks and removing the snow after every storm. Eagle Mountain City would also like to remind residents that disposing snow in the city streets is prohibited by city code. So make sure you are shoveling your snow onto your lawns, not the streets. Parking Restrictions Eagle Mountain City would like to remind all residents of the City Code parking restrictions during the winter weather. These restrictions prohibit residents from parking on city streets between the hours of 4:00 am and 4:00 pm from November 1st until March 15th whenever two or more inches of snow is accumulated on the ground. This is to allow plenty of room for the snow plows to plow our streets without damaging any vehicles or the roadways. Please remember, Eagle Mountain City reserves the right to remove/tow any vehicle improperly parked along the streets during these hours. Seasons Greetings! May your heart be filled with joy this Holiday Season! Sincerely, The Board of Trustees & Quality Management Services! Bicycle Park Update! The bicycle park in The Ranches is still underway. Volunteers have been donating their time and efforts to build and maintain this project, working every Saturday until the structure is complete. To-date the single track trail, four ladder bridge features and the pump track have been completed and the slope style trail is starting to take shape. Volunteers will continue to shape the slope trail until it gets too cold, at which point focus will shift to building wood ladders bridges until the snow falls. Once the snow begins to fall, work will be suspended until spring. If you would like to volunteer your time or make a donation to the project, please feel free to contact Darin by telephone at or at garretthomes@gmail.com for more information. Once the bicycle park is complete it will be open to the public. Trail difficulties will vary so that riders of all abilities will be able to come and enjoy this wonderful attraction.
3 HOLIDAY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES! PAGE 3 Holiday Volunteer Opportunities As the holiday season approaches, many people turn their hearts to charity in hopes of spreading some of the joy they feel and helping others. Below are just a few ideas of how you can help spread some holiday cheer! 1. Participate in the Angel Tree Program: The Salvation Army, KUTV News and Sub-for-Santa host an annual Angel Tree Program every year. The Angel Tree Program provides needy children with toys, clothing, and other wish list items. Those wanting to participate in the Angel Tree Program can go to any participating Cyprus Credit Union or the University Mall and select an angel from the tree. They purchase 3-4 gifts from the child s wish list printed on the angel and return the new, unwrapped items to the place where they chose their angel. Volunteers then organize the gifts and deliver them to the needy children a few days before Christmas. If you would like to participate as a volunteer, please feel free to contact the Salvation Army at (801) extension 5000 for more details. 2. Participate in Macy s The Spirit of the Season Program: Write a letter to Santa Claus with your wish list for Christmas. Seal the letter in an envelope, stamp it and address it to Santa at the North Pole. Then drop it off at any of the special Believe - Santa Mailboxes at participating Macy s department stores. Macy s will then donate $1 for every letter collected to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and take your letter to the post office for delivery to Santa s Workshop just in time for Christmas. Visit or for more information about the Make-a-Wish Foundation or Macy s The Spirit of the Season Program. 3. Volunteer at The Road Home or Donate Items: Volunteering your time at The Road Home is a great way to serve homeless families in Utah and show them how much you care. Some volunteer opportunities include reading stories to children, serving hot meals, and playing games. In addition to donating your time, you may also donate food, clothing, or monetary gifts to The Road Home for use serving families in need. For more information regarding services offered by The Road Home or for more ways to help, please visit their website at 4. Donate food to the Utah Food Bank: With economic pressures beating down on Utah families, many are finding themselves in need of basic necessities such as food for their families. If you are not one of these families and feel inclined to do so, donating food to the Utah Food Bank is one way to ensure these families don t go hungry this holiday season. Many locations are available to drop of food donations including Smith s grocery stores and Jiffy Lube. Every item donated to a Jiffy Lube will be matched by Jiffy Lube meal for meal. In addition, for donating an entire meal, Jiffy Lube will give you $45 is coupons towards services at Jiffy Lube. For more information regarding the Utah Food Bank, please visit 5. Participate in the 3rd Annual Utah Human Race : Instead of donating food to the Utah Food Bank, you can participate in the 3rd Annual Utah Human Race sponsored by the Utah Food Bank and Smith s Food and Drug. All race registration fees and tee-shirt sales will go to benefit the Utah Food Bank and the LDS Humanitarian Aid Fund. For more information about the Utah Human Race visit 6. Do your own Sub-for-Santa or 12 Days of Christmas : Find a child or a family in your neighborhood and make or buy them a few small presents. It doesn t have to be anything big, even a note to say you were thinking about them is enough o make someone s day. Then on Christmas Eve drop the presents off on their doorstep and run and hide. The family will open the door, find the presents, and you will be left with warm fuzzy feelings of joy. 7. Smile! Often times a smile and well wishes are the best gifts of all! Wishing you and yours a very magical holiday season filled with peace, joy, and love! Merry Christmas, Season s Greetings, and Happy New Year!
