Forest Territory Report: Sequoias Sequoia Update: I heard the Monster s game was a blast, I was out of town so we were not able to attend. We are all looking forward to the car race and cannot wait for summer! We need to start planning what we are going to cook for Crooked River. Hopefully everyone is having a great spring and enjoying the nice weather. Bear Clan RW update: Aneen Neeshee, (Hell-o my friends). The Bear Clan didn't bring home any of the big trophies at our last Car Race, but we still had a great time and sold a lot of ice cream, watermelon and cupcakes. Congratulations to all of the race winners. There were a lot of fast and cool looking cars at this year s event, and the YMCA was a great location. Now it is time to look forward to Indians game with the family and enjoy baseball, dollar dogs and fireworks! We hope to see lots of Princesses at the game. In May we will be marching in the Parma Heights Memorial Day Parade. It is a great way to celebrate and honor the men and women who have protected our country. Lastly, we can't wait for Spring Camp and Camp Fitch! We have been working on our lip sync song. It will be HARD for the other outposts to KNOCK us off the top spot. Until then, Friends Always!
Fearless Fawns update: Yetta Hey! Greetings from the Fearless Fawns. April was a mellow month. But we did get to celebrate the 10th birthday of Kendall Ziegler. We had a blast at the car race. Nobody won the championship. But. Leah Pierce came in 3rd place for best decorated car. Next month we have the parade. And spring camp is right around the corner. So until then. FRIENDS ALWAYS. The Grizzly Grapevine April went by as fast as an itch on a grizzly bear's back, after they find a good scratchin tree. A few grizzlies partook in the Monsters game while others anxiously awaited the car race, and what an event it was. It is ironic, as I write this RW update in Buffalo, I think back to all those that helped the Grizzlies and bought a raffle ticket, for a buffalo. Okay. It isn't really ironic, just co-inky-dink. Thank you to all. Congrats to the winner too, Leah Prezenkowski, who turned 8 on Sunday, and won the Buffalo. Treat her with care. Her leaving to a new outpost is bittersweet. The raffle was great but the car race was greater. Shall I say, we had a roaring good time. More congrats...to Victoria - 1st place fastest car in the forest, to Sabrina - 2nd place fastest car in the forest, and Hannah - 2nd best decorated car in the forest. A super fun time. May is busy. Tribe game, parade, and prep for camp. We will see you soon. And, as the grizzly trail boss car exclaimed - Grizzle Breath Out! Scott, Sadie and Samantha Amick 2016 Forest Territory Scouts
SUN TERRITORY REPORT: Ageyutsa Yetta Hey! The Ageyutsa had a great April, and really enjoyed the return of winter to start the month out. We got confused if we should be going to Sled Fest or the Car Race, but luckily, we got ourselves straightened out before the big race. The Car Race was a huge success for our Outpost! Congratulations to Anna Toman and Charlotte Finnecy for taking 1 st and 2 nd place respectively for Best Decorated Cars! Congratulations also to Allison Ricco and Ashley Shefferly for taking 1 st and 2 nd place in the Sun race! The Ageyutsa clan has been close to winning Sun each year, but has never been able to take 1 st place. It was good to finally see one of our cars head into the finals. Allison lost a close final race for the Frontier trophy, but definitely represented us well! Nice job Allison! Our Trail Boss car also put up a heck of a fight as it blew by the competition in each early race. Had it not been for a broken axle in the finals, we probably would have had a shot at the trophy! Oh well, we ll fine tune it more next year! Looking forward to May and (hopefully) some warm weather! Friends Always! The Sunflowers The Sunflowers enjoyed the Car Race! Congratulations to Abbey Deal for taking home 3 rd place in the Sun races! Thee Lakota Yetta Hey! What a month it has been! We Lakota have enjoyed the Father and Daughter Dance along with the Easter Party. Today we had an amazing time at the Car Race. Kudos to both OIC's and all the helpers today. The race was an awesome time and we saw some great races! Even though we didn t come home with the big prize all the girls had fun playing together and watching the race. I think the most fun they had was enjoying all the goodies to eat in the food room. We can t wait till Spring Camp at Fitch! Friends Always, Thee Lakota 2016 Sun Territory Scout Adam and Gracie Albright
Water Territory Report: Water Sprites The Water Sprites had a great time at the car races. The girls had some completive races with dynamic cars. Our families enjoyed a Sunday with our girls. We all look forward to the next events. The Cleveland Indian game should be fun. Yetta Hey! Amadahy Angels The Angels showed up in force at this year s pinewood derby car race. A big congratulations to Elizabeth Cimino and Grace LiPuma who took 1 st and 2 nd place respectively for best decorated Water derby cars. A special congrats also goes out to these girls who took 1 st (Grace) and 3 rd (Elizabeth) overall in the Water Territory car race. Finally Leah Prezenkowski was the big winner of the giant stuffed animal Bob the white buffalo that was raffled off by the Mighty Princess Grizzlies. What a wonderful surprise on her birthday! Yetta Hey! Friends Always! Vito, Victoria, Elizabeth and Olivia Cimino 2016 Water Territory Scouts
Potawatomi Yetta Hey! Spring is finally here! Not much longer and school will be out! Potawatomi showed up for the car race in style! Isabelle won 1st place best decorated. Amanda won 3rd place best decorated. We have some big events coming up, Spring Camp, Indians Game, and some parades. -Potawatomi The Fireflies Yetta Hey! The Fireflies had a great April and represented at the Car Race. Chloe Iafigliola won first place overall across all territories. Olivia Kolenz won second place overall in the Fire Territory and Samantha Amick won second place for the best decorated car in the Fire Territory. Congratulations! The race was a lot of fun and very organized. We will see everyone at the Indians game! Soaring Phoenix The Soaring Phoenix had a blast at the Pinewood Derby event. Even though we were well represented with five daughters and five dads, we did not bring home the gold. The girls had a blast designing their cars even though they didn t win. Once again, big thank you to all who put on this great event.
The Fire Angels The Fire Angels had a great month in April. Looking forward to all the events this summer! The SPARKS The Spark really enjoyed the activities in April. Can t wait for the events this summer! -Spark Out PJ, Kaylee and Chloe Egnaczyk 2016 Fire Territory Scout
SKY TERRITORY Shooting Stars YETTA HEY! The Shooting Stars had a good time in April at both of the events. Summer looks like there are some awesome events for us to enjoy, especially our first Camp at Camp Fitch. We re expecting our own Roger Bundy to show us how to swim in the chilly waters of Lake Erie like we ve heard he s done in the past. Friends always, Roger & Amelia Bundy, Outpost Scouts Cherokee Rainbows Yetta Hey! April was a fun month for our Outpost. Congratulations to Madison Winer, Jordan Cremona and Lindsay Meredink for taking 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place respectively for best decorated cars. The Rainbows also had a clean sweep for the race itself with Olivia Cimino, Allison Grenowski and Lindsay Meredink taking 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd respectively. It was a great showing for our first car race, and hopefully a sign of things to come for future years. Summer looks awesome, so we re excited to get into more of these awesome events! Thanks, Friends Always Tom and Skyler Miller 2016 Sky Territory Scouts

Storyteller Story The Story of the Laurel by Grace Kupfer Once upon a time there was a great flood over all the earth. Some wicked people had angered the gods, and Jupiter sent all the waters of the earth and sky to cover the earth. He did not want the waters to dry up until all the people were drowned, so he shut fast in their caverns all the winds except the south wind, which was sometimes called the messenger of the rain. And Jupiter sent this messenger of his to wander over all the earth. A mighty figure of ruin he was, as he swept along, emptying the clouds as he passed. His face was covered with a veil like the night, his hair was loaded with showers, and his wings and his cloak were dripping wet. The gods of the ocean and the river gods all helped him in his work; till, in a short time the whole earth was out of sight under a vast sea and all the wicked were drowned. Then Jupiter was sorry to see the earth looking so empty and deserted, so he called home the south wind and set the other winds free. The north wind and the east wind and the gentle west wind swept over the earth until it was again dry and green. After that Jupiter sent a new race of better men and women to live upon it. But, strange to say, the water had brought forth many queer new animals; and among them was a huge monster, so ugly that I will not even try to tell you what it looked like, and so wicked and cruel that the people for miles around the swampy land where it dwelt lived in constant terror. No one dared go near the hideous creature until one day, the archer Apollo, the sun-god, came with his glittering arrows, and slew it, after a fierce battle. The people were then very happy. They made a great hero of Apollo, and he left the country feeling very proud of himself. As he was going along, whom should he meet but the little god Cupid, armed with his bow and arrows. Cupid was the young god of love, sometimes called the god of the bow, and there are many stories about how wonderful his arrows were. Some of Cupid's arrows were sharp-pointed and made of shining gold, and whoever was pierced by one of these felt love very deeply, at once. But his other arrows were blunt and made of dull lead and, strange as it may seem, made the people whom they struck hate each other. When Apollo met Cupid thus armed, he began to taunt him. "What have you to do with the arrow?" he said in a boastful tone. "That is my weapon. I have just proved it by slaying the terrible monster. Come, Cupid, give up the bow which rightfully belongs to me." Now, Cupid was a very quick tempered little god, and he cried in a passion, "Though your arrow may pierce all other things, my arrow can wound you." Then he flew off in a very bad humor, and tried to think of some way in which he could make Apollo feel which of them was a better marksman. By and by, he came to a grove in which a beautiful nymph, Daphne, was wandering. This was just what Cupid wanted. He shot an arrow of lead into her heart, and the nymph felt a cold shiver run through her. She looked up to see what had happened, and caught a glimpse of Apollo's golden garments above the tree-tops. Cupid saw him at the same instant, and, quick as a flash, he planted a golden arrow in Apollo's heart. Then he flew away, satisfied.
The golden arrow did its work only too well. No sooner had the sun-god caught a glimpse of the beautiful nymph, Daphne, than he began to feel a deep love for her. And, just as quickly, Daphne had been made to fear Apollo, and turned and fled from him into the woods. Apollo followed Daphne in hot haste, calling to her not to be afraid and not to run so fast, for fear she might hurt herself on the thorns and brambles. At last he cried, "Do not try to run from me. I love you, and will do you no harm. I am the great sun-god Apollo!" But Daphne was only the more terrified at these words and fled more swiftly, while Apollo still pursued her. He had almost reached her side, when she stretched out her arms to her father, the god of the river, along whose banks she was fleeing. "Oh, father," she cried, "help me! Either let the earth open and swallow me, or so change this form of mine that Apollo will not love me." Hardly had Daphne finished her plea, when her limbs grew heavy, and a thin bark began to cover her flesh. Her hair changed to green leaves, her arms to slender branches, and her feet, which had borne her along so swiftly, were now rooted to the ground. Her father had answered her plea. Daphne, the nymph, was changed into a laurel tree. When Apollo saw that his beautiful Daphne had become a tree, he threw his arms about the newly-formed bark and cried, "Since you cannot be my wife, fair Daphne, at least you shall be my tree, my laurel. Your leaves shall be used to crown the heads of the victorious brave, and they shall remain green alike in summer and in winter." And so it came to pass. The laurel, Apollo's emblem from that day on, became the sign of honor and triumph. Kevin and Kaitlyn Sexton 2016 Storytellers
