Addiction is not necessarily habitual drug, alcohol or tobacco use, but includes anger management, excessive spending, pornography, excessive gaming and use of social networking. The Addiction Recovery Program includes not only the individual who desires to recover from addiction, but also family and friends whose lives may be affected by the addiction of another. John will share insights based on 6-1/2 years as group leader in the Addiction Recovery Program. The presentation will include a video as well as an opportunity for questions and answers. 8 Just Serve by Bro. Roy Yamamoto In order to assist Church members in following the biblical admonition of the Savior to love thy neighbor as thyself (Matthew 22:39), Just Serve provides members and missionaries with opportunities to care for the poor and needy, hasten the work of salvation, and enhance the quality of life in the community. Church members and missionaries work with community partners to identify needs and respond to those needs in the spirit of charitable service. Service is the essence of the gospel of Jesus Christ. President Thomas S Monson has reminded us that unless we lose ourselves in service to others, there is little purpose to our own lives. ( What Have I Done for someone Today?, Ensign, November 2009, p 85) Go to the workshop and learn how we can work side by side and learn from each other to increase mutual understanding, correct misconceptions, and build bridges with those not of our faith. Just Serve will make it easier to be the servants we want to be. Roy H Yamamoto is the Executive Vice Chair of the Waipahu Hawaii Stake JustServe Committee. Brother Yamamoto currently serves as a member of his stake High Council and is a temple ordinance worker and sealer at the Laie Hawaii Temple. He has previously served as a bishop, bishop s counselor, stake Sunday School president, and in stake and ward Young Men Presidencies. He graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a degree in mechanical engineering and a Hawaii Management Program certificate from the College of Business Administration. He has also been a registered industrial hygienist and certified safety and health professional. A recently retired director of safety, security and risk management at Brigham Young University Hawaii, he has also worked at Kaiser Foundation Hospital and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in similar capacities. He has received the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver award for his service in Scouting as a scoutmaster and district commissioner. He currently volunteers as a member of the Oahu Medical Reserve Corps in the State Department of Health and for the Hawaiian Humane Society. He is married to Karen (Taniguchi) Yamamoto and has two children.
