Scripture of the Month And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. St. John 8:32 Inside this issue: Words, cont d New Members Church News 3 January News 4 February News 5 March News 6 For Our Youth 7 Membership Update Form 2 8 Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. One must not only hear the Word, one must also understand the Word and receive the Word to be fertile ground for the Word. For a congregation to receive the Word of God and to receive the seed that God wants to plant within the heart, one must receive the sower (pastor, teacher, evangelist) and believe that God is speaking through these vessels to engraft His Word into their hearts. God is setting His people free through His Word. Too many people are bound by fear of failure, bound by insecurities, bound by past experiences and relationships. The #1 need in all of our lives is to have the Lord Jesus Christ where He needs to be...first in our lives. While many in the church like to sing, talk, and preach about Jesus, when Jesus really shows up cliques and clans are messed up because Jesus changes the status quo. When you are trying to line your life up with the Word of God, everyone will NOT necessarily agree with you or even like you for dreaming dreams. This will NOT, however, stop God from blessing you. God does not have to consult with haters for their opinion. If you are hungry and thirsty for Jesus, no one and nothing can block your blessings. No matter what your circumstances, condition, or addiction, there is good news! Your cure lies in the Blood of Jesus. It is the Blood of Jesus that covers us and sets us free. The Blood of Jesus purges our conscience and renews and strengthens our walk with Christ. What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus!. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus! While sin deformed our lives, the Blood of Jesus has transformed our lives. Whether we are dealing with anger issues, doubt, fear, a broken heart, aborted dreams, or a loss of goals, we were not born that way and do not have to stay that way. Too many believers find themselves feeling miserable and without hope. They have quit dreaming and merely exist from day to day. The devil is a deceiver. He is a thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Jesus, however, has come that we might have abundant life! It is the devil who seeks to destroy our dreams, our families, our marriages, our finances, our peace. Often the believer must separate himself from nonbelievers. Avoid receiving reports of disparaging statements and slanderous comments about your brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. The devil is the accuser of the brethren. Even the Lord Jesus Christ was falsely accused. Everyone cannot always go where God is taking you. Moses and Abraham had to leave their kindred to reach the blessings God had in store for them. Following the leadership of God, one cannot fail. As God provided a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day, believers must be sure to follow the cloud (Continued on page 2)

2 PAGE 2 CITADEL NEWS QUARTER LY VOLUME 3 ISSUE 1 Words from the Bishop, cont d (Continued from page 1) All meetings are held in the Eloise Harvey Room immediand not the crowd; because the glory is in the cloud. Mark 3 shows clearly how stretching out on faith is essential for the believer to receive the blessings of God. When Jesus instructed the man with the withered hand, to stretch forth his hand, there were men present in the synagogue who sought to accuse Jesus for healing the man on the Sabbath day. For us to receive the blessings of God, we must often fight past the negative elements around us which contradict what the Word of God says about those things for which we should hope. In Mark 3, after the man stretched forth his hand toward the Lord Jesus Christ, the Word of God records that his hand was instantly made whole and complete. Do you desire to be whole and complete? Reach out to Jesus now! Jesus in the house makes all the difference in the world. When we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, God will add ALL other things. When we seek God first, He will empower us to stretch beyond tradition, to stretch beyond our own experience, to stretch beyond the things which are impossible with man, but possible with God, and move into the faith realm. While believers often insist that they are waiting on God...God is waiting on us to seek His will through His Word and to stretch out on faith toward Him. Many holy men and women of God have reminded us over and over that God has not called us to live a withered life, but an abundant life! Your blood type may be someone s only hope for survival. While African-Americans comprise nearly 13 percent of the United States population, they represent less than one percent of blood donors. You cannot catch infectious diseases, such as AIDS or hepatitis, from donating blood. The needle is sterile and the supplies are used only once and then discarded. Neither high blood pressure nor sugar diabetes prevents you from donating blood if they are under control. The Red Cross will check your blood pressure before you donate to make sure it is at a safe level for you to donate. More African-American donors are needed to ensure that enough blood is available when needed, especially for patients with sickle cell disease. Sickle cell disease affects 70,000 African- Americans. African-Americans with diseases like sickle cell, anemia, cancer and leukemia, or kidney disease are less likely to have physical reactions to blood donations from other African-Americans. Learn more about sickle cell disease and how you can get tested at sicklecelldisease.org. It is a matter of life and death! For example, you should know the warning signs so you can get help right away, either for yourself or someone close to you. Acting quickly can save many, many lives! Some heart attacks are sudden and intense, and no one doubts what is happening. But most heart attacks start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Often people aren t sure what is wrong and wait too long before getting help. Here are signs that can mean a heart attack is happening: Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest. It lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach. Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort. Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea, or lightheadedness. As with men, women s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain. If you have any of these signs, don t wait.! Call Get to a hospital right away. If you or someone you are with has chest discomfort, especially with one or more of the other signs, don t wait longer than a few minutes (no more than five) before calling for help. Emergency medical services (EMS) staff can begin treatment when they arrive up to an hour sooner than if someone gets to the hospital by car. The staff are also trained to revive someone whose heart has stopped. You'll also get treated faster in the hospital if you come by ambulance. However, if you can t access EMS, have someone drive you to the hospital right away.
