SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 10, AM A new prayer form gives God an invitation and a new door to penetrate the locked cells of our hearts and minds. For many of us, using only words to pray reduces God by the limits of our finite words. Maybe you hunger to know God better. Maybe you love color. Maybe you are a visual or kinesthetic learner, a distractible or impatient soul, or a wordweary pray-er. When: Friday, September 23, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Where: PAINTING WITH A TWIST, Veterans Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL (in the same plaza as Best Buy). Those wishing to carpool are encouraged to meet at the church at 6:15 p.m. Phone: (941) The evening will include receiving private group instruction, paints, canvas and materials for each of us to create a work of art. Born of slaves, raised by her uncle Mordecai, a young Jewish woman named Hadassah becomes part of the harem of powerful king Xerxes. Simultaneously, a close adviser to the king hatches a plan to exterminate the Jews. Hadassah, now called Queen Esther, must find the courage to step forward and save her people from annihilation. 3 October Join us for an opportunity to share your thoughts and reactions after watching the movie Miracles from Heaven, a Christian drama based on the memoir of the same name by Christy Beam, which recounts the true story of her young daughter who had a near-death experience and was later cured from a digestive disorder. Rosaries, Novenas and Mantras, Oh My! A look at the various ways beads and other things are used to guide prayer. WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 5 FELLOWSHIP HALL 7-8PM Resurrection From...Resurrection To." It is a 7 week class of looking at 6 resurrection stories to see and find resurrection in our own lives. We will watch 6 videos together: Resurrection From Imprisonment, Addition, Homelessness, Oppression, Illness, Mental Illness writing our own resurrected from, resurrected to stories. THURSDAY 7-8PM DECEMBER 8, 15 November Join us for an opportunity to share your thoughts and reactions after watching the movie The Way, a powerful story about family, friends and the challenges we face. An American doctor comes to France to collect the remains of his son, who died while walking the Camino de Santiago. He decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage to honor his son's desire to finish the journey. What he doesn't plan on is the profound impact the journey will have on him. Through the experiences along the way, he discovers the difference between "the life we live and the life we choose". December 2 -- Join us for an opportunity to share your thoughts and reactions after watching the movie The Nativity Story. In Nazareth, teenager Mary is betrothed to the local carpenter, Joseph. Mary is visited by an angel and told she will fulfill a prophecy and as a virgin give birth to God's son. Mary's pregnancy brings her the scorn of the community and Joseph struggles to believe her seemingly outlandish story. Meanwhile, a census forces every man and his family to return to his place of birth. Joseph and Mary set out on a long and arduous journey to Bethlehem. This team is committed to supporting people in their spiritual lives. Rev. Cass Weisman VISUAL ARTS TEAM Use your artistic, design and creative gifts to enhance our worship experience and add beauty to our spaces. SPECIAL EVENTS TEAM Assist in providing food, welcome, and other hospitality functions for special events that happen in our church. From mid-morning snacks for an organization meeting in our building to supporting the Programming Launch event every three months, this team ensures that at every event, our value for a warm welcome and inclusion is experienced by everyone participating. SCC MCC CHOIR If you love to sing, then join our choir every Wednesday night at 7pm for rehearsal! Nikki LaChambre MULTIMEDIA MINISTRY Exercise your gifts and skills in the areas of sound/audio, Easy Worship, PowerPoint presentations, graphic design, and video recording to enhance our worship experiences along with other events. USHER TEAM This ministry welcomes for our guests to our worship space every week and ensures that people are seated, given materials, and assisted as needed while in worship. CHILDREN S MINISTRY Assist in providing a range of programs to meet the needs of kids and families in our church. This ministry is committed to providing our children with education and a caring community in which to learn and grow in their faith. Julia Gordon YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY The focus here is on young adults for the purpose of providing social interaction and spiritual engagement. ALTAR TEAM The Altar Team sets the table for Communion before the Sunday morning worship service and takes down the elements following the service. This team is vital to worship because Communion is served every Sunday at MCCGSL. John Greene FELLOWSHIP/HOSPITALITY TEAM This ministry team encourages friendship and a sense of community within the congregation by providing food and drink following services and various other special occasions. Linda Staib VISITOR HOSPITALITY TEAM With a focus on our guests, this team works to ensure that their time with us is as comfortable and meaningful as possible. Whether staffing the visitors table, helping someone with directions, or offering a cup of coffee, members of this team make our church home a place that includes and welcomes all.
