1 www. molionsm6.org Official publication 26-M6 November 2016 Message from District Governor Lewis Carnes I attended the second Council of Governors meeting October 29 th which was held at Camden on the Lake. While state cabinet chairpersons usually report on their group s activities during the past quarter, I would remind you this meeting is open to any Lion throughout the state. Council Chair Joe Foster welcomes input from the audience about any matter being decided by the sitting governors. The next Council of Governors will be January 21, 2017 at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, MO. While we are on the subject of the Council of Governor s meeting, I would like to remind everyone I am the spokesperson for 26-M6 at this meeting. Please provide me with your concerns or comments so I can represent the wishes of the Lions in our district. A good example of an issue is; what do Lions want to do with the 70 cents in our dues which goes to support the band since for 2017 we will not have a Missouri All State Band from our local youth. If you have feelings on this matter please let me know so I can voice your concerns, opinions or suggestions. For the 2017 Lions Club International Convention in Chicago, Illinois, the Lions of Missouri will be represented by a member band from a surrounding area. It was decided by vote of the District Governors to sponsor a local Chicago area band as there was no guarantee we could recruit enough students to perform at the 100 th Lions Club International Convention. No Missouri All State Band Trip this year. Does anyone know where the Lions audiometers are, they are missing and if we can not locate them our district may have to replace them. The last club which used them has no idea who was the next Lions Club to borrow the instruments. If you know the location for these instruments please contact District Governor Lewis Carnes by phone or . 1

2 Anyone interested in running for 2 nd Vice District Governor should contact me, 1 st VDG Kevin Cantrell or any cabinet member. The district needs a 2 nd VDG by January 1 st, If you are planning on running for an office, you need to submit a letter of intent along with a letter of endorsement from you own Lions Club. If you have questions please contact me by phone or so I can help you complete the requirements. Directly below you will find information about the 2017 District 26-M6 Convention. Please watch for additional information as it will be forthcoming in the newsletter, website and direct mailing. The cost for this convention is much lower this year and I hope more Lions will make their plans to attend. The 2017 Missouri State Lions Convention will be held in Tan-Tar-A in Osage Beach, Missouri May 4-7, Additional information can be found in the Sept Missouri Lion Publication which is posted on the web site at Missouri lions.org. Lastly, I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and hope you enjoy your family holiday. Yours in Lionism District Governor Lewis Carnes R: C: lcarnes1@hughes.net 2

6 President's Message Dear Lion, Lions do inspiring things. For 100 years, we have joined together to change the lives of neighbors next door and underserved populations around the world. Now that's reason to celebrate. Your club's Centennial celebration is the perfect opportunity to share your achievements and spread the word about what Lions do in your community. When people learn about the difference you're making as a Lion, I know they'll be inspired to join you in service. And there are so many ways to include your community in the celebration. Invite family and friends to serve with you on your next Centennial Service Challenge project so they can experience the power of service. Plan a Legacy Project to showcase your club and connect with community. Host a special Centennial celebration that highlights your achievements, your projects and the opportunities to serve with you. Let's make the most of our Centennial. So keep serving, keep celebrating and keep inspiring your community! Very truly yours, Chancellor Bob Corlew Your International President Very truly yours, Chancellor Bob Corlew Your International President 6

8 Give me a G Give me an L Give me a T What does that mean? (NOT Great Ladies in Training) GLT stands for Global Leadership Team. GLT and GMT (Global Membership Team) were developed by LCI nearly 6 years ago. The Global Leadership Team focuses on the identification, education, development, motivation and engagement of Lions Leaders which is critical to the success of every LCI program and to the future of Lions as a whole. You might ask who is on this team or GLT? Each District Team is comprised of the District Governor and Vice Governors, Zone Chairpersons and a District Coordinator. Other Lions may be added as needed. As your newly appointed GLT District Coordinator, I have many responsibilities, including: coordinating training and leadership development in all areas of the District; organizing zone and club officer training, as well as Certified Guiding Lion training; provide training at conferences or conventions; educate, train, and develop fellow Lions to be potential leaders of the future; collaborate with GMT to ensure new members are provided orientation; and submit reports as required. It s a BIG job and that s why it takes a TEAM. What can I do for you? What type of Leadership Training are you interested in? How can I help each Lions Club provide the proper training for your club officers? Every year there is new and important information provided by LCI that needs to be passed along or implemented within the District and Clubs. After talking to the District Honorary Committee and seeing the need for Certified Guiding Lion Training, I plan to put together a session the last of January or sometime in February. Details are being worked out, but let me know if you re interested in attending, or re-certifying. Please send club officers or members to your zone meetings to receive information that needs to be passed along to club members. Have a great time meeting fellow Lions. Share ideas, support neighboring clubs and attend District events. Learn about leadership opportunities. It s great to be a Lion. 18 Missouri Lions All State Band Committee Council of Governors Report Submitted October 13 th, 2016 Missouri Council of Governors, It is with pleasure that I present to you some information about the committee s planned trip to Chicago for the centennial celebration of Lions Club International. Being a very important event for Missouri Lions, we feel that the state of Missouri is best represented by the youth of the state of Missouri. Attached in your packet, you will find a tentative student application, tentative budget, tentative itinerary, standard operating procedures, an income statement from , and minutes from our last two committee meetings, all approved for submission to the council. The committee and supporters of the Lions Band program have all worked diligently to ensure that we submit to you the best scenario available for having a band. While providing the kids of Missouri with an invaluable music education and figuratively opening their eyes to the power and service of Lionism is our absolute top priority, we feel that Missouri s own international candidate and Lions would be most proud standing alongside the wonderful youth of their own state of Missouri. We hope that you agree to allow the new Missouri Lions All State Band Committee to officially pursue a trip to Chicago and fulfill all of our shared missions and goals. This however, cannot begin to happen without the support of the Council Of Governors, Missouri Lions, and Lions clubs all across the state. It was once said by President Teddy Roosevelt that Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty... This rings true with what our annual band trips aim to accomplish each year. Being a committee of seven voting members and a number of sustained, nonvoting supporters, we simply cannot help our youth without the undying support of each seated governor. This can be achieved first and foremost by actively engaging your district to find a passionate and hard - working individual to fill your band committee vacancy every year. As I said once before in a meeting where this very topic was discussed, If you cannot find a passionate, hard - working individual to fulfill this spot each year, then you become that passionate, hard - working individual. We all need to do our due diligence in regards to our Lions responsibilities to ensure that we fulfill the Lions motto We Serve. Let s work together to ensure that the kids of Missouri have an opportunity this summer to make music and serve with us! Sincerely, Lion Nathan Gargus 18
