1 WE SERVE SEPTEMBER 2018 DISTRICT 201 W2 NEWS LIONS AND COMMUNITY WORKING TOGETHER Hello to all the Lions from our District 201W2. Another month has passed very quickly, with 7 Clubs visited in August. All the Clubs visited all seem to have the same problem. They have not put their new constitutions into the Dept. of Commerce and now have until June 2019 to get it done. If you do not have all the information you require, please contact PDG Alan Hawkins (last years CBL chairman) or our current CBL Lawrie Carr. Details in the diary. District Governor IMPORTANT DATES DISTRICT GOVERNOR BEVERLEY HAWKINS 17th September - Lions Cancer Istitute Meeting 18th September - DG visit Bunswick Junction Club 19 September - DG visit Bull Creek Club 25 September - DG visit Fremantle Club 27th September - DG visit Lake Grace & Pingnup Clubs 1 October - DG visit Nannup Club 2 October - DG visit Cowaramup Club 5-7 October - W2 Convention Australind Official Publication of Lions District 201W2 District Coordinator: Bob Halford westlionw2@gmail.com It is disappointing to see that 23 clubs have NOT DONE their MMR reports for August. Because of this, we do not know what our correct District membership numbers are. I know there are new secretary s, so if you need help, please contact our Cabinet Secretary Margaret Amm. Just from the clubs I have visited, there are new members there who have not been put onto the MyLCI site. This problem also applies to the Club s Activity reports. There are 28 Clubs who have not completed any Activity Reports this year. Please I would like to see 100% of clubs doing this each month by the end of December this year. When I see these results, it shows that not all officers have attended the Incoming Officers Forums. Please ensure all Club officers attend the training days next May. No accurate membership numbers can be given at the moment due to the above. Can Clubs please get all reports and new members put onto the MyLCI site please. I had filled two of the three cabinet positions that were vacant, but now it is still two positions. After returning home from the first Cabinet Meeting, I found our District Cake Chairman had resigned. If you would like to take on this position, please make contact with myself. The Zone 3 Chairman is still to be filled. My first Cabinet meeting was last weekend at Myalup. There was a great turn out of a majority of the cabinet officers. Family issues and one member away only reduced the numbers very slightly. The executive decided to change our bank due to issues we were having and we are in the process of this happening. We had discussion on all the training dates coming up, the first is mid September in Narrogin and Dryandra. On the Saturday night, we had over 30 officers and partners who stayed at Myalup, and had a great HUMANITARIAN, DISASTER RELIEF, MEDICAL RESEARCH, SIGHT and THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF YOUTH DISTRICT NEWSLETTER NEXT EDITION: 15 AUGUST 2018 COPY DEADLINE: 7 AUGUST 2018
2 night socialising and trying to see who won the 3 different quizzes that CBL Lawrie ran. The Zone Chairpersons (not chairmen anymore) had their meeting Saturday afternoon with an information session to help the new zonies get started. ZCC Peter Kenneday is only too happy to help and come to Club meetings with the ZC. The Cabinet meeting on Sunday went well. Most officers had their reports in on time and could be read on our district website before the meeting. It was decided to go ahead and order new district pins and revert back to the Swan pin that we had a couple of years back. This will now stay as our district pin and you will be advised when they arrive. The venue for the next Cabinet meeting has reverted back to Myalup due to accommodation not being available at the Flying Angel Club. This was a majority vote by the cabinet officers. After our meeting finished, we had our guest PDG Ann Eldridge (National Global Membership Chairman) give a presentation on membership and the different ways to attract new members and start new clubs. PDG Ann is also a guest speaker at our convention in October. I can advise that the ALF national fundraising target appeal for $500,000 for the drought stricken farmers will very possibly be reached. It was great to see the large number of hay trucks(100) that were going to affected areas on the TV tonight and ALF will advise the final total shortly. Please keep in mind in March 2019, we will celebrate the National Lions Awareness Day and you will receive information in the coming months about how we can celebrate the day and help to increase the knowledge of non -members about Lions and attract new members. Our Marketing/Publicity Chairman Stephen Berry has just returned from a training session in Sydney and will no doubt have more ideas for you soon. Talking about Convention don t forget to register and get your accommodation. We have a very special main Guest Speaker, Past International President Barry Palmer from Australia. PIP Barry Palmer is a great leader and I know you will all enjoy listening to him, so please get your registrations in. Also, please send all your stories on the projects your Clubs are doing so that the District knows. You all have special projects and we would like to hear about them. 3 FIRST CABINET MEETING MYALUP PINES 25th and 26th August 2018 District Governor Bev s first Cabinet meeting for the year was well attended and managed to mix business with pleasure. Welcome to DG Luen from 201W2 and MD Global Membership Team Chair Ann Eldridge. 4 I was very disappointed on my return from the first Council of Governors meeting and travelling to Wellington NZ for the ANZI Forum, to find that the first TRAINING WEEKEND HAD BEEN CANCELLED. Our Global Training team which encompasses the Leadership, Membership and Service spend a lot of their own time getting these sessions ready for you. It is not done just for the sake of doing something. We are required to run workshops for the WHOLE DISTRICT to help your clubs and to ensure all reporting is done and also to help Lions to improve their own knowledge of Lions Clubs. The workshops had been set up in different areas of our large district so that you did not have to travel too far away. With the one for NARROGIN/DRYANDA being cancelled, the Lions for the surrounding areas will now have to travel further. When the next workshop is advised, please ensure that a minimum of 2 members from your clubs attends. Gold Centennial Cakes For Sales One message from the Council of Governors meeting, is that there is still a large supply of the Gold Centennial Cakes left. Please see the information below re pricing. They can be used for Xmas presents or gifts to your club members. I m still looking for a new Xmas Cake/Mint District Chairman. 5 GUIDING LIONS Districts 201W1 and 201W2 have planned a combined weekend at Myalup Pines on 13 th and 14 th October If you are one of the W2 lions who received certification three years ago at our last Guiding Lion day at the Pines you are due for recertification. If you are interested in becoming a Guiding Lion come and join us on 13 th. We intend to remain at the Pines overnight for a night of fun and fellowship. RSVP please to Dot Jacobs at gltchairw2@gmail.com by 8 th October for catering purposes. Dot Jacobs lions pride workshop 3 rd 4 th November 2018 Kardinya Are you proud to be a Lion? Do you want to increase service to your community, hear about new ideas for service tried by other clubs? Do you want to attract new members and grow your club? All Lions members are invited to join us on 3 rd & 4 th November at Kardinya for a great weekend of fun and fellowship. Contact Dot at gltchairw2@gmail.com or phone Dot on either to accept this invitation or to get more information. RSVP 24/10/18. Dot Jacobs Webmaster s Tip of the Month Time to talk a bit about Facebook this month. Is your club making the most of its Facebook pages? As well as the main page where information is posted, don t forget to make use of the Events page as well. What could you use it for? Think about: Your meetings let people know when/where/who to contact Upcoming activities sausage sizzles, markets, information sessions just about anything you are doing that you want the public to know about Do you have an up to date description in the About section of your FB page? Are you using photos that will capture attention, or better still, short video clips? Research shows that posts with photos do better than those with only text; and posts with videos get the most hits, likes and shares. Do you have relevant photos for both your page banner and your profile? Don t forget also that Lions Australia has put together a social media policy statement that all clubs using Facebook should be familiar with. You can also access this by clicking on the link in the Member Resources page of the District Website to access this (you will need to log in to the Member section first). This is a common sense guide to using social media wisely. Congrats to all those clubs using Facebook regularly. And if you don t feel you have any new club material to post, check out what Lions in WA have been posting and feel free to share or like; search other clubs, Lions foundations, Lions Australia, Lions international and the list goes on. Keeping your page active is the key to getting results: social media works if it is regularly updated and linked to community.
