Leah Watson JUNE 2018 EYEGLASSES UPDATE Submitted by Lion Ann Miller 4 10-year Eyeglasses Recycling Partnership between Ashland Evening Lions Club and Goodwill Industries August Newsletter Deadline The deadline for articles to be submitted for the August newsletter is July 23. The articles can be ed to Lion Carol Dickson at: cjhaught@yahoo.com or if you prefer, you can write them and hand deliver them to her. Any photos can also be ed or hand carried to her. Call Lion Carol at if you have any questions about submissions. In the past, Goodwill was forced to discard any eyeglasses donated to them because they were not permitted to offer them for resale. Beginning in 2008, the Ashland Goodwill Store and those in the Akron District have saved all donated prescription glasses, reading glasses, and sunglasses coming through their donation centers. Our Club has picked up these eyeglasses and forwarded them to VOSH for refurbishing and possible use for mission trips. In the year just ended, we recycled 9,512 pairs of eyeglasses. For the life of the project, 42,708 pairs of eyeglasses were saved from the trash and forwarded to VOSH for potential reuse. ATTA BOY to Goodwill and to our Ashland Evening Lions!
