3 THE STORY Jacob, who lives in the land of Canaan, is blessed with 12 sons. Of these, his favourite is Joseph, to whom he gives a splendid multi-coloured coat. But this coat, along with Joseph s talk of dreams he has had showing he will be the ruler of his brothers, arouses the jealousy of the other eleven. They decide to kill him, but before they get the chance, they meet up with a group of Ishmaelites travelling to Egypt. A plan is hatched and they sell their brother as a slave instead. Joseph is taken to Egypt and his brothers return to tell their father that his favourite son is dead. Potiphar, a powerful man in Egypt, takes Joseph into his household as a slave. While there Joseph works so hard and is so honest that Potiphar begins to admire him greatly. Unfortunately, he also catches the eye of his master s wife, who tries to seduce him. When Potiphar catches them together, he assumes the worst and sends Joseph to prison. While there, Joseph meets two of Pharaoh s servants, a butler and a baker, both of whom have had strange dreams. Joseph interprets their dreams, correctly telling their future. In the meantime, Pharaoh, the most powerful man in Egypt, has also been having unusual dreams. No one can interpret these dreams, so when Pharaoh hears of Joseph s ability, he immediately has Joseph brought before him to interpret his dreams. Joseph offers his interpretation, that seven years of bounty will be followed by seven years of famine, and Pharaoh is so impressed that he appoints Joseph to a post in the government to be in charge of preparing for the famine. When the famine does hit, Joseph s father and brothers in Canaan are illprepared. They hear that there is food available in Egypt, so the brothers travel there to beg for assistance. Once there, they are brought before Joseph who recognises them immediately even though they do not know him. He tests their honesty and humility by planting a golden chalice in the sack of his brother, Benjamin, to see what they will say. When confronted with the supposed evidence of theft, the brothers maintain the boy s innocence and offer to let themselves be taken prisoner instead. Joseph sees that his brothers have changed so, to everyone s great joy, he reveals his true identity. Finally, Jacob is brought to Egypt to join his family and to again see his beloved son at last.
4 THE CAST Joseph - Ben Collins I have been with KYDS since 2013 and I have played a variety of different roles. The character of Joseph has been by far the most challenging part for me, specifically vocally, as Joseph is an extremely vocally demanding character within a vocally demanding show as a whole. KYDS was my first musical theatre group and was the beginning of a strong interest of mine, the group has improved my skills and most importantly, my confidence, both on stage and in every day life. The rehearsal process for Joseph has been fun for me and the rest of the cast but it has also been extremely tiring. The hard work and effort we have all put in to Joseph will hopefully shine through in our performance and I hope it is enjoyable for all. Jacob / Mrs Potiphar / Ensemble - Tommy Metcalf Hello Everyone! This is my third KYDS show and it s been as great as all the other ones! I play a guy called Jacob who is the father of all the brothers, a pretty radical guy. I also play my second female role as Mrs Potiphar! Anyway I hope you all enjoy my third KYDS show! Potiphar - Beau Hens This is my first production with KYDS and I m so excited to be playing the part of Potiphar. My sister thinks the character and I have a lot of similarities ( I can t think what she means!) I have always loved performing from a very young age, and with the friends I have made in this cast, I m certain we are going to have a great production. Pharaoh / Ensemble - Charlie Warner Woah! This is my third show! That went quickly! I started KYDS when they started the Little Mermaid and I was Flounder! Not a bad role for my first time, hey? That was great but the real fun began when we did Aladdin last Christmas. I got the chance to play Wishee Washee - the younger child of Widow Twankey. I got some pretty positive reviews, which mostly consisted of my legs were like springs. Suppose that s not a bad thing? But enough of the past! In this show I m Elvis! Well, not actually, but you know what I mean! Hey, hey, hey Joseph!
5 Narrator - Ellie Russell I have been a part of KYDS for 6 years now and this show is my 12th; it has been amazing to perform with everyone but also watching others grow as people. I was never much of a big singer, but KYDS has really pushed me and the role of a Narrator has really challenged me and my ability to sing. Throughout the rehearsal period I feel like I have improved massively and my confidence whilst singing has also soared. I have really enjoyed rehearsals as they have been very lively and energetic due to all the upbeat, well known songs! So, sit back and I hope you enjoy the show! Narrator - Amy Swallow Hi! I m Amy Swallow and I m 13 years old. I have been with KYDS now for 2 years and this is my 4th show. I love performing with KYDS because it gives us all the opportunity to express ourselves and act on a stage! KYDS is like a little family and we all help each other with problems we come across during rehearsals. We have worked very hard on this show so I hope you enjoy it! Narrator - Charlotte Kane I really enjoy dancing, singing and acting because at each rehearsal there is always something to do. I have been in KYDS since January 2017 and everyone there is so welcoming and kind. I have really enjoyed Joseph because it s a very lively and exciting show. I hope you enjoy the show! Narrator - Emily Hatton I ve been involved in drama ever since I can remember, I love being on stage, the adrenaline is just indescribable. This is my second show with KYDS. Honestly we re just a big family, we re all ready to help somebody else in the group. When I joined in September everybody welcomed me in and told me how everything worked. I have loved all of the opportunities I have been given in this show, and the people I ve gotten to work with. I m very excited and I hope you are too. Enjoy the show! DID YOU KNOW? KYDS makes the majority of its set and props. We also hire out things we have made to other organisations!
