The Christmas Holiday Season found our Band of Brothers and their wives and families participating in the following council events, facilitated by the following: Brother Jim Galyen organized an excellent Christmas Dinner that was well attended and fully enjoyed by all. To our parish spiritual leadership, Father Eric and Father Hau, thank you for attending. District Deputy Dan Miulli thank you as well for your greeting and announcement of future calendar dates of note. Brother John Egan thank you for your time and energy in facilitating a great Christmas Parade Float event. Because of your work our council was well represented during the parade. And thanks to Dan and Sandy Miulli for tak- Grand Knight s Message A.J. Holmon III Grand Knight ing on with such grace and leadership our Christmas Basket Program and Food Delivery to those less fortunate. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the wives, families and friends who with love and grace support the members of our council. Thank you. Brothers we have a thin month in January with few events planned other than council meeting January 8 th, and Clergy Night. I am sure there are 4 th Degree call-outs which Brother Art Manzano will give us during our business meeting. Additional events, if any, will be brought up as well at our business meeting. Great time brothers to catch up on logging your participation time in our membership website! I have experienced much this year and would like to share a personal thought. Happiness is a result of an event subject to fade away. Joy is remembrance always of that past happiness during the best and worst of time. A true gift of the Holy Spirit is Joy you can count on to comfort you and see you through always. We meet on January 8 th starting at 6:00 pm. in the Olive parish hall, as usual. Vivat Jesus! G.K. A. 2 Chaplain s Corner Brothers: Page 2 This month we celebrate our parish Feast Day of The Holy Name of Jesus on January 3. This is a marvelous feast because the name Jesus is not just a name amongst all other names, the name Jesus was given to us by God through the angel Gabriel to our Mother Mary, Don t be afraid, Mary. You have found favor with God. You will become pregnant, give birth to a son, and name him Jesus Lk 1: The revelation of Christ name was also revealed to Joseph when an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream assuring him of Christ s birth by Mary through the Holy Spirit. Thus, the name of Jesus has with it the very breath of God; therefore, the very creative power of God. For when God speaks there is creation and life. We know this to be true from Genesis that when God spoke the Word, or Logos, the world was formed. St. John testifies to this in the beginning of his Gospel, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Christ was with God from the beginning. But when Christ, the Logos, was conceived by Mary he was given not only a human flesh but a human name that revealed his nature in relationship to God. The name Jesus comes from the Greek Iesous which was derived from the Aramaic, Yeshu. It means Yahweh saves or in Hebrew God saves. That is why from apostolic times the name has been treated with the greatest respect, as honor is due the name which represents Our Lord, the one who saves us from our sin and defeated death. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Jesus' Resurrection glorifies the name of the Savior God, for from that time on it is the name of Jesus that fully manifests the supreme power of the "name which is above every name". The evil spirits fear his name; in his name his disciples perform miracles, for the Father grants all they ask in this name So during this month of January, let us honor the name Jesus by more reverently saying it every time we use Christ s name. Jesus has the power to transform our lives and so if you are facing doubt, confusion, hardships, or any other earthly or spiritual struggles pray the name of Jesus constantly on your lips so, by His name, we may be transformed and healed. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father Phil 2. 3 Editor s Note Page 3 November 6, 2018 Business Meeting Minutes will be published here, on the Council 3109 website as soon as the minutes become available. December minutes were not recorded since that was a social meeting held at The Old Spaghetti Factory on December 4th. KUDOS Christmas Basket donations: Council members, and others, donated $2,320 toward this year s Christmas Basket fund. Thanks to all who contributed support for this worthwhile project. A special thanks to Mike Roquet, of Roquet Paving, Inc. for the outstanding job his workers did in paving the approach to the Council Mobil Mini storage container that is placed near the lower parking area at El Carmelo Retreat House. The last Goodwill truck loading was a breeze, because the baskets could just be rolled up to and away from the Mobil Mini.
