2 Though I don t have any memories of my grandfather, my respect and fascination with his life has planted within me a desire to get to know him through any means necessary. I guess the best way to explain it is that I have had the distinct impression that he is watching over me. I have felt the fulfillment of Elijah as my heart has been turned to my ancestors and particularly to Harry J. Haldeman Jr. In 2011, when I received some old cassette tapes that contained some of Harry s personal history, I was struck by how he introduced the recordings. Clearly a humble man, he explained that he had little to share that would be of value to anyone. I have felt the spirit prompting me to preserve and share Harry Haldeman s history, but what was his purpose in originally recording it? One of his cassette tapes titled Spiritual Experiences would reveal the answer: I have pondered at some length whether or not these things should be recorded. And I have come to feel that they could be and might be in the years to come in the lives of my offspring, some source of inspiration and motivation and spiritual invigoration, inasmuch as they can come to know firsthand of the kindness and intimacy with which the Lord has treated me, and to develop in them a stronger testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the reality of our Father in Heaven s living and hearing our prayers and answering them. Without any question that is the most outstanding prime purpose of this entire project, is for my offspring and family to come to know better than they might otherwise that the Lord does hear and answer prayers, and that there is not any time in our life anywhere or anyplace that we ever escape His eye nor His view. Nor is there any prayer or thought ever uttered or generated of which He is not aware. As a grandson who hardly knew him, I can attest that the knowledge of his life and testimony have indeed strengthened my testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It has buoyed me up in times of difficulty and doubt. It has prompted me to develop my own relationship with God and to remember my noble heritage. Most of all, it has testified to me that God is not only real, but that he is close. As the descendants of Harry Haldeman increase in number, I feel a responsibility to take the history and memory of this great man to them. After studying documentary film and working in media for the past 6 years, I feel that I have been groomed specifically to accomplish this task. My objective is to tell the story of the life of Harry Haldeman in a video format and preserve what he referred to as, the Lord s dealings with me. Though I do not expect to pay myself for the hours of work I have done and will do on this project, I would like to raise enough to cover my estimated expenses of $3,000 as I go into production and request any donation you may be in a position to make. His life story is one worth preserving and sharing. I have come to believe that like the brother of Jared, Harry J. Haldeman Jr. was a man highly favored of the Lord (Ether 1:34). Ryan Haldeman

4 HIGHLY FAVORED: THE LIFE OF HARRY HALDEMAN vi) Harry and Carla later continued to California and settled in Alhambra, later moving to Long Beach, then back to their exact same home in Alhambra 3) Harry Haldeman (45 minutes) a) Birth i) Born in a rented house in Magna, Utah ii) Oven with an open door was used as an incubator iii) Court clerk confusion with his name typed it instead as Harry Junior Haldeman Jr. instead of Harry Jury Haldeman Jr. b) Early Life i) Raised in Alhambra and Pasadena area and a small time in Long Beach ii) STORY: Harry always studying the scriptures and getting his brothers ready for church meetings. iii) Attended Pasadena Junior College before WWII iv) Siblings: Robert Jay Haldeman and David Dumont Haldeman c) Adult Life i) Met Mary Ellen Murchison at a dance school and fell in love with her ii) Married on August 13, 1944 iii) STORY: Working on the naval docks and was approached by superiors who advanced him because of his incredible work ethic iv) Became a commissioned Naval officer and served on a ship in the pacific v) After WWII he graduated from Dental School at USC vi) STORY: Giving free dental work to the Hispanic fruit pickers vii) Mary Ellen was baptized on December 5, 1942 viii) Harry and Mary Ellen were sealed in the St. George, UT temple on June 25, 1946 d) Servant of the Lord i) Called to be a bishop at the age of 29 ii) STORY: Speaking for a man in his ward in a court in Los Angeles and the judge suspends the punishment because of knowing J. Reuben Clark iii) Had 5 children: Linda, Steve, Laurie, Jay & Paul iv) STORY: Visual revelation given to know where Mary was when she left the house during an episode of heavy stress v) Moved to Santa Barbara in 1956 vi) STORY: Paul s last haircut from Harry and how he apologized to Paul while kneeling at his bedside vii) Called and sustained as Stake President of the recently created Santa Barbara Stake in 1957 viii) STORY: Visually seeing the names of Stake counselors and high councilors to call scroll up his windshield while driving ix) STORY: Audible revelation to release Woody Dean x) STORY: Gives a blessing to a boy and is prompted to not pronounce that he will live, weeks later the boy dies. xi) STORY: Prompted to raise a boy from the dead but does not have the faith to do it, feels horrible that he was tested and didn t have more faith

Film historical sites including homes Harry lived in, his dental office, schools he attended, places of employment, chapels he attended, gravesites, etc. May 1 July 31, 2014 Rough Cut: Edit the first cut of the documentary, Highly Favored: The Life of Harry Haldeman. This will be a working cut of the film without the final music, visual effects, audio mastering and color grading. August 1 August 31, 2014 Final Cut: Edit the final cut of the film and prepare it for delivery. This includes preparing the film for distribution through Blu-ray along with cover art, menu creation, etc. September 1, 2014 Deliver the Blu-rays of the film and potentially hold a Haldeman family reunion around Labor Day in which we have a screening of the final film.
