She reminded Session of the emphasis on the youth in our church and that one of the goals is to raise funds for youth programming. Marilyn Jorgenson, member of the 175 th Celebration Committee, reviewed the status of the Committee s request regarding the Silent/Live Auction fundraiser for youth programming. At the last Session meeting, the Committee requested a change in worship schedule for the October 19 th date of the auction. The Session requested the Committee review their request with the Executive
4 Committee of Session to clarify their plans and consider other options. The 175 th Celebration Committee did have that discussion with the Executive Committee. They looked into a suggested move to September 28 th so that the auction occurs before the start of the Stewardship Drive in October. The Committee would need to set up on the 27 th and there are other activities using Fellowship Hall well into the evening on the 27 th. The Committee considered other times for the auction but has decided it will request again that the worship schedule be changed. Elder Linda Meadors, on behalf of the 175 th Celebration Committee, moved that the Session approve the 175 th Celebration Committee plan to hold a silent and live auction on Sunday, October 19, 2014 with one worship service on that Sunday at 10:00 am (to be planned by the Worship and Music Committee) with the auction commencing after the special service. 5 DEACON S REORT Deacon Jeffrey Gomez reported on the following items: Rocky Kane has resigned from the Deacons and the Deacons will request the Nominating Committee seek a replacement as soon as possible. Rocky served the Mission Connection. Others have stepped up to carry on the work on the committee. The Deacon picnic will be June 8 th. The Deacons served 60 people at the Salvation Army in April. The Deacons have approved Camp Wyoming scholarships for 4 church youth. $1000 of the $3000 restored to the Deacon s budget has been pledged to ongoing upgrades to the Deer Center at Camp Wyoming. The plant sale held this past week raised about $200. Details for a possible youth mission trip to Washington, Illinois are still in negotiation. About 50 boxes of clothes have been collected for Re-Member. Ted Brown is planning on taking the donations to South Dakota. Three applications were received for the Deacons Endowment Fund during the recent granting period. They are being reviewed currently. COMMITTEE REORTS Worship and Music Committee Elder Mike Bawden reported that the church worship survey is undergoing final review but should be released very soon. He held a session at Adult Education on Sunday from which he received several suggestions. The survey will primarily be electronic, but paper copies will be available. ersons completing the survey will be able to share the link with others that may want to also do the survey. Christian Education and Fellowship for Youth (CEFY) Tiffany Horvath, Director of Christian Education, reported that the Sunday School year has been completed. She is still in need of a group to provide lunch on Thursday, June 19 for Vacation Bible Camp. Buildings and Grounds Committee Elder John Gere, on behalf of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, moved the approval of a sanctuary chancel lighting project for a bidded cost of $4,807 with the money coming from the Forward in Faith Capital Fund. The work will be done by DECCO. The scope of work fits the criteria of the Forward in Faith Capital Fund. John explained the current lighting is outdated, difficult to repair and this project will provide a necessary upgrade. The motion was unanimously approved. Elder Gere reported that the company that hung our 175 th Celebration banners has agreed to walk through the church and provide some options and ideas for church signage.
6 Stewardship Committee Elder Mike Bawden reported that church leadership will be asked in September to offer their 2015 pledge in advance of the October stewardship effort with the congregation. It is hoped that 100% of leadership (Session, Deacons, and Foundation Board) will support the church with a pledge. Elder Bawden reported the committee is looking at possible granting opportunities that might assist with an anticipated kitchen remodel that is being discussed. OLD BUSINESS - none STAFF REORTS Diane umphrey, Communications and Office Manager, asked the Session to acknowledge the efforts of Tiffany Horvath in writing, staging, and running practices for the Children s ageant. She also commended Cindy Meinert for her efforts on the Ice Cream Social. Shannon Gruhlke, Finance and Facilities Manager, reported the acquisition of a new system that will allow for on-line donations to the church and credit card purchases of event tickets at the door. It has a number of plusses and will add efficiency to the church office. The new system has lower credit card fees than the church currently pays for credit card donations and the donor can elect to offset the service fee. ADJOURNMENT On motion, the meeting was adjourned at 8:06 pm. Moderator ro Tem, Rev. Kristy arker closed the meeting with prayer. Moderator ro Tem, The Rev. Kristy arker Clerk of Session, Mark E.
