1 THE INFORMER St. Peter Lutheran Church 6745 Palms Road PO Box Fair Haven, MI October 2018 As Autumn approaches and the cooler weather makes itself known, we turn from our Summer relaxation and begin again the activities of the year. Children are back in school, football rivalries heat up for another year, and we begin to get back into a more regular routine. With these changes of routine, however, one thing remains constant: Our heavenly Father s gracious care for us! The will of God is always best / And shall be done forever; And they who trust in Him are blest; / He will forsake them never. He helps indeed in time of need; / He chastens with forbearing. They who depend on God their friend / Shall not be left despairing. As we enter the many different times of our lives, we entrust each of them to our heavenly Father. We remind ourselves that every single day is carried in our God s hand and His loving attention is there to keep us safe in His will. We trust our God, knowing that He watches over us in gracious mercy. He guides and keeps us: His rod and His staff keep us safe from the enemies of our souls as He leads us in the ways He would have us go. God is my comfort and my trust, / My hope and life abiding; And to His counsel, wise and just, / I yield, in Him confiding. The very hairs, His Word declares, / Upon my head He numbers, By night and day God is my stay; / He never sleeps nor slumbers. Each day we rest in our Savior, Jesus. We rely on His gifts: His Washing, His Word, His Supper, as He keeps us safe in His salvation. His Word grants us His wisdom as His Spirit opens our minds and motivates us to walk in His ways. We trust His providential care and we rest in His gracious rule throughout each and every day of our lives. Our God knows us intimately and is ever vigilant on our behalf. Lord, this I ask, O hear my plea, / Deny me not this favor: When Satan sorely troubles me, / Then do not let me waver. O guard me well, my fears dispel, / Fulfill Your faithful saying: All who believe by grace receive / An answer to their praying. We face truly frightening enemies in this life. The world seeks to press us into its wicked mold. Our fallen nature lusts after the illusionary enticements of sin. Even the devil himself seeks to draw us into the condemnation he faces. These enemies are constantly arrayed against us, but our God stands with us. He never fails us in time of temptation and He never forsakes us to the desires of our enemies. We remain safe in His care. When life s brief course on earth is run / And I this world am leaving, Grant me to say, Your will be done, / Your faithful Word believing. My dearest friend, I now commend / My soul into Your keeping; From sin and hell, and death as well, / By You the victory reaping. We know that, while we are here on earth, we walk by faith, not by sight. We rely on our God s promises to us. We rely on Jesus sacrifice to make us clean and acceptable; able to stand before our holy God clothed in the righteousness with which Jesus clothes us. We rejoice in the Holy Spirit s work of keeping us steadfast in this faith. And we wait. We wait for that magnificent day when faith will turn to sight as we see our Savior Jesus welcoming us into the heavenly home He s prepared for us. And as we wait, we rest! Because we know we know that He who has promised is faithful!

2 The Elders Corner The representatives of our Michigan District Circuit met on Sunday afternoon, September 23 rd, and chose our circuit representatives to the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod s National Convention. Pastor Sam Shrouse of Our Saviour, Armada was elected as the Pastoral Delegate. Mr. Ed Derous of St. Matthew, Lexington was elected as the Lay Delegate. Our Pastor Steve Hoerr was elected as the Pastoral Alternate and Mr. Mark Warsinski of Trinity, Port Huron was elected as the Lay Alternate. The Alternate delegates are chosen to attend the Convention in place of the Pastoral or Lay Delegates should either of them be unable to attend. The Convention will take place in 2019 from July 20 th through July 25 th in Tampa, Florida. God s continued blessings to Pastor Sam Sherouse and Mr. Ed Durous as they represent our circuit in Tampa next year! Our Sunday School is back in full swing as our teachers are providing enjoyable, Christ-centered instruction for our children. We ve had marvelous attendance so far and are looking forward to the continued growth of this important program. Please tell or bring your neighbors, your grandchildren, or any families with children ages 3 to 12 so the children can join us in this enjoyable and uplifting experience. We are looking for a few more volunteers to serve as Sunday School teachers and classroom helpers. Both men and women of the congregation are invited to volunteer to help in this important work. We anticipate that each volunteer will be asked to teach a Sunday a month, and we are hoping to include enough volunteers to alternate months. Those who travel or are out of town for extended periods are also invited to volunteer; by working around travel schedules we can provide this opportunity to more of our members. Please contact Pastor or Linda LeLacheur to volunteer or if you would like more information. Prayerfully consider your place in the spiritual development of St. Peter s next generation of saints!

3 FROM THE CHAIRMAN Has everyone gotten over the Ark trip yet? It took me a couple of days, but I think I'm back to normal. It was a trip that I recommend you to take if possible. Thank You Karen Williams for making all the arrangements, you did a fantastic job!!!!!! I didn't know what to expect and had heard stories from friends who had been there. Well the stories were true, the first sight of the Ark is mind blowing. It is 510 feet long, 85 feet wide and 50 feet high. The inside is just as impressive with its massive beams all bolted together, the animal cages and explanation of how the animals were feed was very interesting. We have finally rewritten our by-laws and constitution to something that will apply to our church. This is something that has needed to be done for a long time. Thank you to all the people who came and helped, it was really nice to have so many people take part in the rewriting. Have you noticed the weather is cooler and the days are shorter which means only one thing, Christmas is coming!! Okay, I might be rushing it a little bit. All are welcome to join us, we usually bring a dish to pass and have a good time. You are welcome to come for part of the time or all of it. 7 Choir News Your St. Peter choir is preparing for many new musical moments as the Church Year moves toward its close! Our Reformation commemoration service will host a favorite of our choir, a rousing anthem entitled Wonderful Grace of Jesus. The choral selection for All Saints is still undecided as there are several enjoyable songs available for that festival service. Thanksgiving Eve will witness a Celtic Song of Thanks a familiar melody repurposed for a message of praise and thanksgiving! As always, Advent begins the new Church Year and your choir is already looking forward to their harmonious additions to our services. If you would like to join your voice in these exciting musical moments, please join us for practices on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm. Sanctuary Tech News Your Elders and Pastor are seeking volunteers to help with the operation of the technology that enhances the Divine Service and for help in the Burn Crew preparing recordings for our homebound members each Sunday. This presentation requires two public readings. The first public reading will take place Sunday, September 30 th, after service. The second public reading will take place after service on Sunday, October 7th. The Voters have authorized a Special Voters Meeting for Sunday, October 14th, after service. This Voters Meeting will be held to approve the new Constitution and Bylaws. If the Voters approve the new documents, they will then be forwarded to the LCMS s Michigan District s Constitutional Review Committee for review and comment. Once the District s Review Committee returns the Constitution and Bylaws along with any recommendations they may make, St. Peter s Constitution Committee will reconvene to review the District s feedback and prepare the documents for final approval by the Voters Assembly. A letter describing this process has been mailed to the membership to insure that all our members are aware of this important work and are invited to be involved in this work as it moves forward. If you have not yet obtained a copy of the new Constitution and Bylaws, they are available on the literature table next to the fellowship hall s back door. Please take this opportunity to read through them!
