PRAYER REQUESTS There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. She just found out that she has stage 4 cancer in her lungs, bones and brain. Please pray for God s strength to help Bonnie and her children and grandchildren through this trial and for her complete healing Magnolia Ave Dyer, IN Evelyn Weckerly, September 24, 2014 From Mike Joseph, pastor, Lansing, MI - UPDATE: Evelyn Weckerly writes: As we begin the fall holy days, I want to express my deepest gratitude for all your prayers, cards, and calls. It s been a long journey with some setbacks and several times in the valley of the shadow. I want you all to know that I am finally healed. I have good bowel function, no more evidence of infection, and good blood test results. I m still slightly anemic, but the doctor is not concerned about it. He regards me as a walking miracle and is thanking God, too. I m planning to be in Cincinnati for the Feast, and I shall come truly rejoicing in God s mercy and goodness! May God grant you all a joyous and meaningful Feast and comfort and strengthen those who must stay home this year. Malcom Murray, September 24, 2014 From Ministerial and Member Services: Your prayers are requested for Malcolm Murray, pastor of the congregations in Flint, Saginaw, Traverse City and Petoskey, Michigan. While visiting a church member at the hospital yesterday, he collapsed from a heart attack. Open heart surgery for a double bypass was performed early this morning, September 24. He is now in intensive care and seems to be doing well. It is expected that he will continue about a week in the hospital and make a full recovery. Because he was already at the hospital when the event occurred, he was able to receive instant care; the doctors feel that he might not have survived the heart attack otherwise. Malcolm and his wife, Francie, would appreciate your prayers for his complete recovery McFarland Dr Linden, MI Taking Personal Hymnals to the Feast Most feast sites in the U.S. will be projecting the hymns onto a large screen. However, sometimes the view can be obstructed. It is recommended that all members take their personal hymnal to the Feast of Tabernacles regardless of whether you are going to your assigned site, transferring within the U.S. or going to an international site. Nevertheless, some members want to pack as light as possible. If you want to know if your site is projecting the hymns go to the Church member feast site at: Hymnal Projection Feast Sites 2014 Site Bend/Redmond Big Fork, MT Branson Cincinnati, OH Jekyll Island Lihue, HI New Braunfels Ocean City, MD Oceanside, CA Panama City Beach Screen Projection 2

U.S. Diplomat Visits Ambassador Bible College Home office staff and Ambassador Bible College students had the opportunity Monday to hear from David Caudill, a senior United States diplomat serving in the United States Department of State. Victor Kubik had invited Mr. Caudill after hearing him speak at the local Rotary Club. Mr. Caudill is a native of Clermont County, Ohio, and has a home in Milford. He was invited to talk about first hand observations of developments in the Middle East, particularly in rthern Iraq. He returned this summer from a one-year assignment at the United States mission in Erbil, Iraq. It was just three months ago that the Islamist terror group ISIS annexed portions of northern Iraq and Syria and declared a Caliphate. ISIS troops came within twenty-five miles of Mr. Caudill and the U.S. Mission. Mr. Caudill spoke for more than an hour to the ABC students and staff. His comments ranged from his deep belief in the Bible as a source of wisdom and teaching to observations on current world affairs. His work has taken him to American embassies in Santiago, Chile, Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Israel. His work has been as a political officer focusing on human rights, Israeli and Palestinian affairs and intelligence issues. His last assignment at the Consulate General in Erbil, Iraq, had him working with the Kurdish Peshmerga Defense Forces. He leaves next month for Washington and preparation for his next assignment in Paris, coordinating work on the Middle East desk of the U.S. Embassy. "I appreciated his candor in addressing difficult topics on Mideast foreign policy. He's got a lot of insight into the actual daily workings of the U.S. and Iraqi governments and their relationship to one another," observed Nick Bizic. Mitch Moss commented that he appreciated "his realistic perspective as a member of the foreign service who also views the world through his Christian understanding of scripture." Mr. Caudill spoke candidly to the staff about world affairs and complimented the ABC students for taking a year of their lives to come and study the Bible. --Darris McNeely Winter Family Weekend - Appealing to All Ages We will be hosting the 2014 edition of the Winter Family Weekend (WFW) once again at the Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio (a Cincinnati suburb). We have enjoyed this location for the last three years with its 78,000 square-foot indoor waterpark and wonderful convention facilities. The sports venue for basketball and volleyball is held under the same roof at Courts4Sports, also in Mason, about 10 minutes away from the Lodge. We also have other sports activities in a facility (Wall2Wall) across the parking lot from Courts4Sports. This makes the sporting activities convenient for families having children or participating in more than one sport to be in the same area. 3
4 Our theme for Sabbath Services, the Bible Study and the seminars is "Remember the Sabbath Day!" This year, we will have Sabbath Services at the conclusion of the event instead of at the beginning. We will begin with a welcoming dance on Tuesday evening, December 23, at 7:30 p.m. During the intermission at the dance (approximately 9 p.m.), a brief organizational information meeting will be held for the sports participants. On Wednesday (24th), Thursday (25th) and Friday (26th) there will be seminars, an art expo, children's activities, games, an Ambassador reunion, musical presentations, teen and adult dances and various sporting events scheduled. On Friday evening, there will be a Bible study beginning at 7 p.m. Since check out for guest rooms at the Great Wolf Lodge is Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., we will end all planned activities at 2 p.m. on Friday so that most of the packing up for those staying at Great Wolf can be done on Friday afternoon. This will allow time for the children's lessons, teen and adult seminars on Sabbath morning before services at 2:30 p.m. Those who do not have to leave after services are still welcome to use the waterpark, if they so choose, on Saturday evening. Everyone attending the weekend is asked to register, whether or not they plan to play any sports, because it helps us in planning. Registration is now open, so please register by going to and using the "Register Online" link. The registration system will allow you to edit your registration later if changes arise, so please register as soon as you can. We have changed the fee structure across the board this year--we are only charging for basketball and volleyball, and those payments will be made per team instead of per individual. Basketball - $160 per team Adult Volleyball - $140 per team Teen Volleyball - $120 per team Individual (basketball or volleyball) - $20 payable at the organizational meeting held on Tuesday night, December 23. The basketball or volleyball team captains are urged to register their teams soon after registration opens so that their team members can associate themselves with the team. The captains will also be responsible for making a single payment for his or her team. The deadline is December 8 for teams and individuals to be included on the playing schedule. Once again, our mainly Cincinnati-based staff is glad to have the opportunity to host all of you who can attend this very special event for the family. We look forward to welcoming you to an enjoyable and educational activity at the beautiful and functional Great Wolf Lodge with fellow brethren from all over the USA and International areas. --Gary Antion, Winter Family Weekend Coordinator 2015 Spring Education Tour - Turkey In life, it does not take long to discover that travel is one of the best forms of education by expanding our horizons and making the pages of history come alive. Since United Church of God's first educational tour to Egypt, seven years ago, this is the concept that was the genesis behind creating each program. For the 2015 Unleavened Bread season, we are excited to announce the destination of Turkey, focusing on the ancient Seven Churches and key sites of the journeys of the Apostle Paul. Departure will be on Sunday, March 29th which will allow the tour to begin prior to the Passover, with a return date of Wednesday, April 8th. Since the last day of Unleavened Bread is Friday, April 10th, this will allow for any travel delays in returning home. An additional 4-night extension is available to Cappadocia. The area is best known for its unique moonlike landscape, underground cities, cave churches and houses carved in the rocks. It is a great opportunity for those who wish to extend their learning experience while in Turkey. Working jointly with professional local guides in Turkey and our own United Church of God elders creates a rich educational experience with the Bible as the open textbook. This year, Frank Fish of Travel Gallery commented that he is pleased to have Cincinnati East pastor, Steve Myers, as the lead minister on the program. With his teaching and ministerial responsibilities, as well as a presenter on the Beyond Today television program, he brings a broad range of experience to the tour. Links to the narrative itinerary as well as the payment details and terms & conditions are available at travelgallery.com. Or if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Frank Fish or John Siston at ( john@travelgallery.com) 4
