GRANT Chief Administrative Officer Acadian Waste Disposal donates $5,000 for new Oak Community Grove Park Contact: Scott Rabalais (225) ; FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 19, 2010 GONZALES The ongoing renovation of Oak Grove Community Park got a big boost Thursday, April 15 with the donation of $5,000 from Acadian Waste Disposal Service. Ken Firmin, owner of Acadian Waste Disposal Service, presented a check in that amount during Thursday s parish council meeting in Gonzales. Accepting were Parish President Tommy Martinez, Council Chairman Pat Bell and District 7 Councilman Chris Loar, who is spearheading the project. Construction is under way at the park, at the intersection of LA 42 and Old Jefferson Highway just off Airline. It is expected to re-open in May. The first phase of the park renovation plan includes a spray park, two playgrounds, a pavilion, a beach volleyball court, fencing, landscaping and other amenities. Firmin praised parish governmental leaders for moving forward with the park development, and singled out Loar for getting the project moving. I want to compliment Chris for his vision, Firmin said. He saw the opportunity in a piece of property the parish has owned for many years and pursued a dream he had. I want to urge other companies in Ascension Parish to help with this cause. On a related topic, volunteers are urged to come out on Saturday, May 1to help with construction of the playground portion of the park. Work begins at 9 a.m.
