2 Principal's Welcome After many hours of planning, preparation, rehearsing and I m sure, some blood, sweat and tears, we are excited to showcase our amazing students and staff in our inaugural Secondary School production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. As we all know, events of this scale are not always smooth sailing and have their share of challenges along the way. I would like to acknowledge our Production team for their commitment and passion. It is certainly a team effort that ensures everything comes together for the show, however I would especially like to thank Mrs Lisa Wilson, Miss Tayla Johnson and Mr Andrew Baker who have worked together, using their talents to support each other and our students and staff. Congratulations and thank you for everything you have done in the lead up to tonight. To our students, I am in awe of your passion and commitment to the show. It has been a significant commitment over the past twelve months with learning songs, rehearsing dance routines, mastering your stage craft or learning your backstage cues and roles. Well done. I am extremely proud of you. Please enjoy the performance presented by our fabulous young people and their Godgiven talents. Mr John Thompson Principal Any Dream Will Do Rising to a challenge is a huge part of the learning experience in preparing for a Secondary College production at Victory. Our student musicians and performers learn in detail the depth of commitment and responsibility necessary to become successful learners. It is not all fun and games. It is also about work. You could even say that in learning to prepare a performance the students are also learning a strong work ethic. I am confident the work of our students will shine through in this production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. May I take this opportunity to thank our committed students, teachers, parents and musician members I am proud to work with all of you. May you find your dreams from the joy of Music! Mrs Lisa Wilson Producer Director s Note Did you know that Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat was first written for an end-of-term school concert in 1968? Just 15 minutes long, it was so successful that it expanded to a full production in If you didn t already make the connection, that means that Joseph is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year! So what better time to stage a production of our own. As Victory s first ever Secondary production, this extra-curricular project has been a huge undertaking for all involved teachers and students alike. The show you see tonight is the culmination of many months of planning, design, construction and, of course, rehearsals. 4 Our Narrator begins by telling us the story of a person like any one of us - a dreamer - whose dreams come true (PROLOGUE).We jump back to Biblical times and meet Jacob, who has twelve sons of whom Joseph is his favourite (JACOB AND SONS). To show his love for Joseph, Jacob gives him a multi-coloured coat (JOSEPH S COAT). Joseph s brothers resent the favouritism and the fact that Joseph has high aspirations (JOSEPH S DREAMS). Fraught with jealousy, the brothers throw him in a pit and are going to leave him there when they are approached by the Ishmaelites (POOR POOR JOSEPH). They change their minds and sell Joseph off to slavery in Egypt, telling their father he had been killed by a goat (ONE MORE ANGEL IN HEAVEN). In Egypt, Joseph works for POTIPHAR and manages to achieve great heights by working very hard. But when Potiphar s wife tries to seduce Joseph and they are caught together, Joseph is thrown into prison (CLOSE EVERY DOOR). Everything seems to be lost but Joseph s hope is rekindled when he interprets the dreams of two other prisoners - the Pharaoh s Butler and Baker (GO, GO, GO JOSEPH). INTERVAL The Narrator continues the story describing the powerful Pharaoh and the crazy dreams that he has been having (PHARAOHS STORY). The butler, now freed, remembers Joseph and tells the king of his interpretative powers (POOR, POOR PHARAOH). Pharaoh sends for Joseph and the dreams are explained (SONG OF THE KING / PHARAOH S DREAMS EXPLAINED).There is going to be a period of plenty in the land, followed by a harsh famine. Pharaoh is impressed by Joseph and makes him his second in command (STONE THE CROWS). Back in Canaan, the future looks rough. Jacob s family is finding it tough, remembering the good times they once had (THOSE CANAAN DAYS). The brothers go to Egypt to ask for food. They appear before Joseph but do not recognise him (BROTHERS COME TO EGYPT/GROVEL GROVEL). Joseph makes them grovel, and then accuses Benjamin of stealing his precious golden cup (WHO S THE THIEF). The brothers leap to his defence and Joseph sees they are changed men (BENJAMIN CALYPSO). He reveals himself. Everyone rejoices, and Jacob is happy to be reunited with his beloved son (JOSEPH ALL THE TIME/JACOB IN EGYPT). Joseph sings of his dreams once more and displays his technicolour dreamcoat (ANY DREAM WILL DO).

6 From The Musical Director Over the past two years Victory s Band has undergone a transformation process. Originating from a smaller Chapel Band intended to support our various school services, it has developed into our current Stage Band incorporating both orchestral and rock band elements. In order to achieve this, students have gained skills in reading fully notated multi-part scores, acute listening and understanding directions of a conductor just as they would in a commercial theatre production. The music you will hear today is from the full adult production score which will be performed largely unmodified. In order to achieve this, students have demonstrated dedication and persistence over the past 10 months attending afterschool rehearsals and putting countless hours of rehearsal time in at home. We are incredibly proud of their efforts which have set Victory Lutheran College s music community up for future success. Special thanks also to our team of instrumental teachers at Victory who have supported these students in their learning. Without the efforts of these dedicated and passionate music educators school production bands are simply not viable.
