1 Flames of Faith Ascending Prayers June 29, 2015 What a glorious Saviour we have! I am continually amazed by Him. There is no one above Him, no one besides Him! He Reigns! Oh Great and Mighty King! Heaven and Earth belong to Him! Kingdom without end! Glory to His *ame! Jesus IS Lord! When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; What is man that Thou art mindful of Him? And the son of man that Thou visits him? For Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and has crowned him with glory and honor. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passes through the paths of the seas. Oh Lord our Lord, how excellent is Thy *ame in all the earth! - Psalm 8:3-9.

Several things have happened lately that led me down this path to Psalm 8. It began with Joyce Huffman getting lost in the wilderness of an Oregon mountain.

As the days went by it was hard to push aside the horrors of what if s but when it looked like there was no hope, hope was still there. Faith in a loving and merciful God continued. Then, all of a sudden, an 80 year-old woman, who was lost for six days without water or food and in a forest known to be inhabited by wild bears, mountain lions, and only God knows what else, was found nestled in a small space but surrounded by thorns and thistles so thick that it took men two hours to cut through to her. All I could see in the midst of rejoicing and awesome wonder of our great King, was the Crown of Thorns that was placed on His Sinless Head. The thorns and thistles surrounding Joyce protected her from invaders and also kept her from wandering off any further. She was surrounded by a Crown of Thorns. Then, I began to wonder about the crown itself and if Adam had a crown? Everything our Lord Jesus experienced during His walk on this earth and during the crucifixion has absolute meaning even to the smallest detail. Nothing is random, coincidental, or out of order. The Crown of Thorns was intended to be a form of cruel mockery by the Roman soldiers. But, in reality, it was more. It was part of the redemption. It was the payment for a lost crown...a crown of glory and honor that once belonged to Adam in the Garden. It was a Crown of Life that was lost. This is what David saw when he wrote these words: What is man that Thou art mindful of Him? And the son of man that Thou visits him? For Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and has crowned him with glory and honor. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: - Psalm 8:4-6.

3 So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. And God blessed them and God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the foul of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the face of the earth - Genesis 1: This dominion was given to Adam by God. He had God s blessings to be able to subdue it, replenish it, and be fruitful. According to Psalm 8, he was also crowned with glory and honor. God visited him and was mindful of him and put all things under his feet. The fruitful blessings included the ability to multiply. These blessings belonged to Adam in a godly Garden where death did not exist. Adam was surrounded by Life and had the ability to multiply in the realm of life and light. Of course we also know that Adam was warned about the consequences of partaking of the knowledge of good and evil. The Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree in the Garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou shalt not eat of it: For in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die - Genesis 2: This is the first mention of the word die. By now we should all know that first mention of a word is very important and demands attention. I was surprised by what I found when I looked it up. Strong s # die, a causative word...meaning to cause to die, cause to kill, put to death, destroy, and become a destroyer.

That puts a whole new spin on the meaning of God s warning that in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die - Genesis 2:16-17.

Unto Adam He said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife and hast eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: Cursed is the ground for thy sake (because of you); in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground Genesis 3: As a side-note, the word dominion has two primary meanings in the Hebrew language. For Genesis 1:28 the definition is found in Strong s Hebrew Dictionary #7287 whereas the definition of dominion in Psalm 8:6 is found in #4910 and it is almost identical. There are some slight differences but the descriptive meaning for dominion in both Hebrew words, is to rule and reign over. So now we know that Adam had a crown (Psalm 8). And we know what happened when he chose to sin. The Crown was lost and when the Crown was lost the reign of Adam was lost as well. And then, God s words came to pass and the dominion became the dominion of darkness and death and everything began to die.

5 We finally come to the first mention of the word cursed (Genesis 3:14). We also have the first mention of thorns also and thistles (Genesis 3:18). At this point, let me remind that the first curse was upon the serpent and we know who that is... (Isaiah 27:1 and Romans 12:9). There is no redemption for this Being. The second curse was upon the earth and that was because of Adam or as God s Word says, cursed is the ground for thy sake, which now will bring forth the thorns also and the thistles, (Genesis 3:17-18). There is a scripture that speaks very loudly about all this. It is in Romans. *evertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude (likeness) of Adam s transgression...who is the figure of Him that was to come (Romans 5:14). Romans Chapter 5 is worth reading again. Because, it goes on and says, For if by one man s offence, death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17). What if that one offence of Adam brought judgment to all men also? Romans 5:18 says, Therefore as by the offence of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one, the free gift came upon all men unto the justification of life. But, what about sin. There are so many laws and there have been so many sins! For as by one man s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one (Jesus Christ), shall many be made righteous. Moreover, the law entered (yikes), that the offence might abound. BUT, where sin abounded, GRACE did that much more abound (Romans 5:19-20); That as sin has reigned unto death...even so might grace reign, through righteousness unto Eternal Life by Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 5:21). By one man came a curse upon all. By one man came thorns and thistles. By one man death reigned. By one man came judgment condemning all men. By one man s disobedience all men became sinners. By one man the dominion of life was given to the dominion of darkness and mankind became a slave of sin and death. Oh Holy Lord, How Worthy are you! For the great things You have done! How wondrous is Your *ame!

10 Holy Spirit Reborn By Mark Bruno ~ I endure the emotions of trials, the pains of doubt, A love longing to understand, knowing I must stand, But flesh has long arms, and chains, with great weight. For moments I sense a glowing presence around me, I see nothing, but its shinning Is no doubt encompassing I sit in awe, no words can be spoken Only Joy and Tears Who am I that you would perform works indescribable? What a beautiful communion!

12 The Crown of Thorns Plant in Bloom The latex may produce a severe dermatitis on susceptible individuals, much like poison ivy. Generally poisonous if ingested in large amounts, the latex undoubtedly contributes to the protection of the plants from herbivores (plant consuming organisms). The latex of some species has been used for arrow poisons and to stupefy fish for capture. This type plant is not planted near stocked pools since the exudate from broken roots can be fatal to fish. Despite its poisonous properties, in the past the latex had been used for medicinal purposes. The common name for the family, Spurge, comes from the same root as purge or expurgate, alluding to its properties if taken internally. ~

In addition, He is the eternal Creator, Healer, Savior, Judge, and the very pinnacle of wisdom, understanding, and grace. Yet, mankind is so deluded that, without realizing it, many worship their consciences formed by their own earthly experiences. Their consciences are nothing more than an inner voice, a sort of a moral policeman that has taken up residence within. Can it be trusted? Do we trust ours? This is better than nothing, but conscience is easily perverted and often abnormally developed because it is almost entirely dependent upon upbringing and propaganda from this world's media. Since this is Satan's world, there is little chance that a person's conscience will be entirely aligned with God's standards. Others superimpose on God their conceptions of a human father, but this, too, is woefully inadequate. What if one has no father as part of his life? What if his father was stupid, foolish, tyrannical, or over-indulgent? What kind of positive impression will that leave? Is God merely a grand old man, a head-patting, gray-headed, somewhat doddering person whose mind wanders back to better times, forgetful of what is occurring on the earth and in our lives?

14 God's name is "I was, I am, I will be." He has lived for eternity, but He is not old; He is every bit as modern as tomorrow. When God came as a man, He showed He did not have a completely placid temperament, a God who would not say, "Boo!" He did not just let sleeping dogs lie. He was not uninspired and uninspiring; Jesus stirred people up so that they said, "No man ever spoke like this Man!" (John 7:46). He challenged and exposed the hypocrisies of the religion of His day and was moved to deep anger by the shameless exploitation taking place at the Temple. He was of such personality that He walked unscathed through hostile crowds. Jesus was meek, but the term indicates that He had the power to use as He willed, restraining it as an act of mercy, wisdom, and love. Christianity is not for the soft and sentimental. We have a war on our hands, and our God is a powerful warrior the Lord of Hosts is His name. He is on our side, but He demands our loyalty. ~ John W. Ritenbaugh ~ The Berean

Father, I believe you sent your Son Jesus to be the sacrifice for my sins and that He died for me so that I can be saved from this world. I ask you to forgive me and take away my sins. I believe that Jesus rose from the dead by the power of your Holy Spirit. I believe He is alive right now. I ask Him to come into my heart and live in me. I believe that Jesus is Lord. In Jesus *ame I pray, Amen.
