I was born the 5th of December My Fathers name was Anders Olsen and (he) was a smith born in Ladby parish by Næstved and died in Bjerre the 27th of March 1839 and my Mother was born in Hyllested died in Bjerre the 7th of August I went to work when I was 11 years old, and I worked for farmers until I became a soldier. I registered for duty on 30th of May in the morning at 8 (in) 1846 at Sølvgades barracks in Copenhagen in Denmark. I was in Copenhagen for 16 months, then came the war in March 1848, and I was called. I served with the 3rd battalion and participated in the battle on 9th of April at Bov, where the enemy was repelled, then we came to Slesvig town and stayed for 14 days, after which we had a battle again the 23rd of April the same year, where we had to withdraw to the island of Als. Then I came to Jutland where we stood review for (King) Frederik the 7th at the wall of Lerbæk. Then I came home and worked for the miller in Rude until I was called up again in 1849 when we had the battle at Fredericia the 6th of July The enemy was driven back and I worked for Niels Jenss in Bere during the winter. Come 1850 I had to report again the 20th of????. We were stationed on Funen for some time and were then shipped from Assens to Aabenraa. We marched to 2 (Danish) miles North of Flensborg, where we had battles on the 4th and 25th of July Here I was pierced by a bullet which entered at the right side of the sternum and was removed from the back. I was in a field hospital at The Citizens Society in Flensborg for 13? weeks, then I came to 2

3 Copenhagen in November 1850 and stayed at the Garrison Hospital in Rigesgade until the 8th of March 1851 when I was rejected from service, but I have had bad after-effects from the wound. Then I came home and worked for a farmer named Niels Jenss (in) Sorø county until I in November 1853 was married to carpenter Hectors and Ane Hectors daughter on Bøgelunde Mark the 24th of November Then Hans Christian Nielsen was born on 16th of October 1854 at Bøgelunde, Ørslev parish, Denmark. Ann Nielsen was born at?lagelse Mark the 23rd of January 1857 and Mart was born on the 27th of July 1857 in Bøgelunde. Margrethe was born in Bøgelunde the first of December?1862. Elisabeth was born in Bøgelunde the May The time I was baptized I was baptized in?dianalund, Sorø county 2 (Danish) miles North of Slagelse on the 10th of August 1856 and had the laying on of hands the same day by Elder Bertelsen and the following Sunday I was at the Assemly for the first time. The next year I was ordained Elder and became Christener and stayed as that until I traveled. The time I traveled to Utah I left home, my wife and 5 children in the morning of the 28th of August 1880 from a town in Sorø county named Ørslev, and arrived in Copenhagen at 11 the same day. The 29th of August in the morning at 9 we met at the customhouse and were transported to the steamer in the outer harbor. At 1 o clock on the 29th the anchor was weighed and the steamer was under power, and passed Kronborg (Hamlets castle), came by Skagen and out into the North Sea where we had heavy seas the The 1st of September we landed at?jul and drove across England to Liverpool, where we the same evening boarded the ship, that was to bring us across the Atlantic. The name of the ship was Wyoming. It was 300 Alen (1 Alen = 2 feet) long and 50 Alen wide, and the machine had 500 horsepower. The 3rd of September at 3 o clock, the ship weighed anchor and left Liverpool. Now it went with fair weather until the 12th when the pilot came aboard, and on the 13th early morning we dropped anchor in New York harbor. We came to Castle Garden and stayed to the 14th, when we were transported to the Railroad and boarded the cars, and at 4 o clock the train departed. The 15-16th, then we came to Chicago in the evening and the 17th we came to Omaha and the 21st we came to Ogden, and came to Peter Sørensen and stayed there the night. The 22nd I stopped outside Ogden at a Brother by name Søren Kristophersen and on the 23rd I arrived in Brigham City at Jens Petersens who lives in the 3rd ward, and the 24th in the morning came Brother Berg and we rode to Ogden where we spent the night, and on the 25th I came to Salt Lake City to Brother Berg and worked in the garden. I left the 7th of January, year 1881 and came the same evening to Brigham City to Jens Pedersen at 9 o clock, stayed there the night and the 8th I went down to Ole Polsen, whom I knew from home. Then I was there some days and then I traveled to?bear River City to miller Hansen and stayed there a short time, then I came back to Brigham to Ole Polsen and stayed there for a short time, then I traveled up to the small 3

4 valley and stayed there in March and April for 20 baptisms. The 1st of May I traveled back to Brigham again and mailed money to Martin and the 9th of May I rode the gravel-train and stayed until the 22nd of July, then I traveled again back to Ole Polsen and stayed there until I again rode the gravel-train the 1st of October. We went to several places up?nord Badel Krik Arimo Bokotele and others. Then I came back to the lodge and left the gravel-train and I visited several old acquaintances, and then I came to Hyrum and stayed there a day at smith Peter Danielsens, then I came back to to Brigham and stayed at tailor Nelsen in the month of February, then I came to Mads Tomsen and stayed there March and April, then I rode again on the gravel-train. We went to the warm spring and back again and I worked for Agsenl Christensen and Larsen. The time I was married The 2nd of August 1882 I was in Salt Lake City and was married in the Endowment House to Emma Lillieqvist and came home and have worked as much as I could stand. I have not been very strong to work, and I took ill when I came home. Martin Andersen This book belongs to Niels Andersen who has the 4TH OF APRIL 1904 written down some recollections of his life story. My name is Niels Andersen. I was born in a house at Bjerre school the 5th of December My Father was a smith and was born in Ladby parish by Næstved. His name was Anders Olsen and my Mothers name was Margrethe Nielsen and was born in Hyllested millhouse. I went to work when I was 11 years old and continued until I became a soldier. 1846, the 30th of May, I registered in Copenhagen at the 3rd Battalion, where I served for 16 months. Then I was home a bit until spring 1848, when the war, lasting 3 years, came. I took part in several battles and was severely wounded the 25th of July 1850 at Isted and had to stay for 8 months in the hospital. I returned home the 8th of March 1851 and worked for a farmer until I was married the 24th of November Then my oldest son was born the 16th of October 1854, his name is 4

5 Hans Christian Nielsen, and then my daughter Ane Nielsdatter was born the 23rd of February 1857 and Martin Andersen was born the 27th of July 1860 and my daughter Margrethe was born the 1st of September 1862, and Elisabeth Nielsen was born the 29th of May I was baptized for my absolution the 10th of August 1856 at Dianalund Mark by Elder Bertelsen and had laying on of hands the same day and a short time later I received the Aaronic Priesthood by laying on of hands and after a while I was ordained Elder, the 20th of September in Slagelse. Then I walked several (danish) miles to the assembly on Sundays and worked hard for the farmers until 1875 when I came to a brickyard and worked there for 2 years and received a good pay, and when I was done with that I came to a tenant farm and took care of the animals and received a good pay and was well off. Then I came to travel the 28th of August 1881, when I was 58 years of age. And I had belonged to the church for more than 25 years. The time that I traveled to Utah I left my home which was in Ørslev, one (danish) mile East of Skelskør, and (left) my wife and 5 grown children in the morning of the 28th of August I came to Copenhagen the same day and received 400 Kroner for travel expenses from Dentist Berg, who lives here in Brigham City. In the morning of the 29th we met at the customs house and were transported out to the steam ship that was in the outer harbor. At 1 o clock the ship sailed. There were heavy seas in the North Sea. On the 1st of September we arrived in England and rode by rail and arrived the same day at the ship, which was to take us over the ocean. Its name was Wyoming and the machine had 500 horsepower. The 3rd of September the ship sailed out and it now went under fair weather until the 12th when the pilot boarded the ship and on the 13th the ship was at the pier and we were in New York and we were transferred to the Castle Garden where we stayed until the 24th. Then we boarded the train and at 4 o clock the train left. On the 16th we boarded another train in Chicago. On the 17th we came to Omaha and changed seats. The 21st we came to Ogden and we had a happy and pleasant journey all the way. Then I traveled to Brigham City to Jens Petersen where I arrived the?22nd, but the following day I went to Salt Lake City to Brother Berg, where I stayed 3 months and worked in the garden. I left the 7th of January 1882 and returned to Brigham City. Then I worked for Anders Madsen in the little valley, then I came back again and I got some money to send for my son Martin Andersen, who arrived here in November The 9th of May I went on the gravel-train and stayed there until July, then I came back to Ole Poelsen where I stayed until October, then I went back to the railroad and stayed there until November, then I got a leave and used this opportunity to visit some old acquaintances, the wife of a smith, who had lived in Bøgelunde, but was then in Mendon, and her son, Peter Danielsen, who lives in Hyrum, where I was for a while, then I came back here to Brigham again. I stayed with tailor Nielsen in February 1883, then I went over to Mads Tomesen, where I stayed for 2 months. Then I traveled on the railroad again and was there until June. Then I came back again and worked a little for Larsen and for Aksel Christens until the last days in July. Then I decided to marry Emma Lillieqvist, and therefore we went to Salt Lake and married the 2nd of August 1883 in the Endowment House. At that time I was 60 years old and was not very good for working but I did what I could. I was ordained high priest by Samuel Smith the 7th of November

6 My patriarchal blessings were given under the laying of hands by W.Bogs, where it was pronounced that I was of Josefs Lineage fruit and that the holy priesthood belongs to you. You shall have dreams when you are low, and Our Fathers spirit shall inspire you. You shall stand on the holiest while depravity rules the world. Brigham City the 12th of January Written down on pages I and my wife were in Logan Temple the 9th of June 1885 and performed baptism on the 9th and the following 2 days for my Father Anders Olsen who was born in Ladby parish by Næstved and died in Bjerre the 27th of March 1837, three and forty years, and my Mother Margrethe Nielsen born Hyllested died in Bjerre the 7th of August years old, for grandparents on my Fathers side, Ole Nielsen died in Ladby parish and Elisabeth Nielsen died 1845 in Ladby parish, Sorø County, Denmark. The same time I was in Logan to ordain for my Fathers, my son Martin Andersen was married to Anders Sørensens daughter Marie Sørensen and was sealed to me at the same time. Ordinance was performed the same time for Martin Andersens grandparents on his Mothers side, Johannes Hector and his wife, Ane Hector, the first days in November My wife Mette Sofie Hector was born the 1st of March 1824 in Bøgelunde died the 14th of October in Stubberup by Skelskør My brother Rasmus Andersen was born in Denmark, Sorø county, Bjerre by Skelskør the 21st of August My brother Ole Andersens wife was born in Denmark, Sorø county, Marvede parish the 3rd of March died the 17th of June 1893 in Hyllested parish, her name Ane Marie Rasmussen. What time my full brother Ole Andersen and his two children were born. Ole Andersen was born in Bjerre the 27th of June Brothers children Anders Olsen was born in Rude the 31st of May 1845, Margrethe Olsen was born in Venslev the 2nd of June What time my half-siblings were born. She was born on Slagelse Mark the 23rd of February 1857, and her oldest son was born the 25th of May 1882 named Niels Peter Nielsen and the other son named Hans Peter Marius Nielsen was born the 15th of June 1891 and she had a daughter who was born the 10th of June 1893 named Marie Sofie Hansen and a boy who was born the 2nd of October I have performed ordinance in Logan Temple the 9th of June 1885 and following days for my Father Anders Olsen born Ladby by Næstved died in Bjerre the 27th 1827 in March. And my Mother Margrethe Nielsen born in Hyllested died in Bjerre the 7th of August years old. The same time I performed ordinance for my grandparents on my Fathers side. My grandfather was named Ole Nielsen and died in Ladby parish by Næstved in a house close to Herlufsholm monastery. And my grandmother was named Elisabeth Nielsen died 1845 in the same house. I had a father s brother who got the house after his parents, named Lars Olsen and he had a daughter who got the house her Father who worked at Herlufsholm. Niels Andersen has performed ordinances for his grandparents on my Mothers side in Logan Temple the 28th of October My grandparent s names were Niels Madsen and Louise Kirstine Kristensen died in Bjerre years old. My wife Mette Sofie Hector was born in Denmark, Sorø county, Bjerre parish the 1st of March 1824, died the 14th 1890 October, interred in Ørslev cemetery by Skelskør. And her husband Niels Andersen was born in Denmark, Sorø County, Bjerre parish the 5th of December 1823 Ordinances were performed for myself Niels Andersen and my wife Mette Sofie Hector in Logan Temple the 27th of October My wife Mette Sofie Hector was born in Sorø County, Denmark the 1st of March 1824, died the 14th of October I have a half sister who lived by Ringsted in a town named Kyringe and as far as I remember his name was Hans Olsen. He was a poultry dealer, and my sisters name was Marie Kristensen. She was born in Sorø county, Bjerre parish 1808 and died probably in Kyringe by Ringsted Hans Olsen is survived by a son, his name and address are for Farmer Ole Hansen, Grønnebergs Gaard by Ringsted. Brother Ole Andersen was born the 24th of June in Denmark, Sorø county, Bjerre parish. Died the 16th of October 1903 Sorø county, Venslev parish, Denmark. Brothers Ane Marie Rasmussen was born in Marvede parish the 3rd of March 1811 Denmark. Died the 17th of June 1893 in Venslev parish. Martin Andersen was born the 27th of July 1869 in Denmark, Sorø county, Bjerre parish. My son Martin Andersen came to Utah in the fall of 1882 and stayed at Jens Petersens in Brigham City during the first winter and worked different places until the 11th of June Then he was in Logan Temple and was married to Marie Sørensen, a daughter of Anders Sørensen. She was born the? March 1869 and their oldest daughter, Mette Andersen was born in Brigham City the 20th of December 1886 and the other daughter Rita Andersen was born the 11th of May 1869 and a girl was born the 24th of February 1892 but 7

8 died the 6th of March Martins first wife, Marie Sørensen died in Brigham City the 11th of February,1892. And after Martin Andersen had stayed with Peter Petersen for 3 months, he went to Logan and was married the 10th of May 1893 to Marie Sørensen, who was a cousin to his first wife. She was born the 22nd of February Then they had a son the 14th of July 1894 named Martin Andersen. Then they had a son the 5th of September 1896 named Victor Andersen, but he was always sick and died the 24th of November 1897 in Brigham City. Then they had another son the 26th of October 1897 named Christov Andersen. Martins wife was born in Brigham City the 22nd of February And after a short illness, she died in Brigham City the 21st of February And after my son Martin Andersen had been alone with his children for 4 months, he went to Logan and was married the 13th of July 1898 to Mari June Evans, who was born in the 3rd of August Their son Herealt Niels Andersen was born in Brigham City the 30th of April A son Vesely Andersen born the 10th of August 1901.?died 1903?. The oldest was a son named Hans Christian Nielsen. He was born in Denmark, Sorø County, Bjerre parish on the 16th of October He was married to Karoline Hansen. She was born the 30th of August It would be nice if an ordinance could be performed for the count family on the Holstein family on Holsteinborg. They have done much good for me. Their names are Frederik Adolf Holstein born the 18th of October 1784 died the 21st of May 1836 and Vilhelmine Julie born Reventløv born the 30th of July 1788 died the 8th of October 1868 Performed baptism for them in Logan Temple the 21st of August 1888 by Ole Pedersen in Brigham City. A little history about myself and my children. My name is Niels Andersen and I was born the 5th of December 1823 in Denmark, Sorø County, Bjerre parish by Skelskør in a house by Bjerre School. My Father was named Anders Olsen and he was born in Ladby parish by Næstved and my (Mother) was Margrethe Nielsen and she was born in Hyllested mill house. I came out to strangers when I was 11 years old and I have been a soldier and I served in the war against Germany in Then I came back again and was married the 24th of November 1853 to Mette Sofie Hector. And on the 10th of August 1856 I was baptized and some time later I received the Aaronic priesthood. The 20th of September 1857 I was ordained Elder in Jesus Christ Church of the Latter Day Saints and was Christener until money was sent from Utah by Berg who had been a barber in Skelskør. And on the 29th at 1 o clock the ship left Copenhagen and over England and the Atlantic we arrived at Ogden 8

9 the 13th of September. From there I came to Salt Lake to Brother Berg, where I stayed for 3 months. After that I stayed different places for work, and on the 2nd of August 1883 I went to Salt Lake and was married in the Endowment House to Emma Lillieqvist, who lived here in Brigham City. The 28th of October?1899 I, Niels Andersen performed ordinance in Logan Temple for my grandfather on my Mothers side. His name was Miels Madsen and died in Hyllested about 1820 Denmark, Sorø county, Hyllested parish. At the same time I, Niels Andersen performed ordinance for my grandmother on my Mothers side. Her name was Louise Kirstine Kristensen died in Bjerre the 7th of September years old. My wifes parents, Johannes Hector died the 13th of November 1875 in Denmark, Sorø county, Bjerre parish. And his wife, Ane Hector was born the 20th of May 1789 died the 9th of October 1875, Denmark, Sorø county, Bjerre parish. Ordinance of Martin Andersen was performed the first days of Novb I, Niels Andersen was born the 5th of December 1823 in a house by Bjerre school by Skelskør. My Fathers name was Anders Olsen, a smith. He was born in Ladby by Næstved died in Bjerre the 27th of March 1839, 43 years old. And my Mothers name was Margrethe Nielsen and was born in Hyllested mill house died the 7th of August 1831, 49 years old. Sorø county. Martin s first wife Marie Sørensen died in Brigham City the 11th of February Martin Andersen went to Logan Temple the 10th of May 1893 and was married to Marie Sørensen, a cousin of the first wife. She was born in Brigham City the 22nd of February Their first son, Martin Andersen was born the 14th of July 1894 in Utah Brigham. And then they had a son the 5th of September 1896 by name Victor Andersen. He was always sick and he died the 24th of November The 26th of October 1897 they had a son named Christen Andersen. He was baptized by Martin Andersen the 4th of November Martin Andersen s wife Marie Sørensen died in Brigham City the 21st of February She was born in Brigham City the 22nd, The 13th of July 1898 Martin Andersen was in Logan Temple and was married to Evans daughter Mari Jane. She was born the 3rd of August 1868 in Brigham City, Utah. Their first son, Herald Niels Andersen was born in Brigham City the 30th of April 1899 and was blessed by his Father Martin Andersen. My Brother Ole Andersen was born the 24th of June 1821 in Denmark, Sorø County, Bjerre parish died the 16th of October 1902 in Venslev parish. And his wife Ane Marie Rasmussen was born 1811 in Marvede parish, Sorø county, Denmark died in Hyllested parish the 17th of June 17th of June And then my Brother has a son named Anders Olsen. He was born the 30th of May 1845 in Denmark, Sorø County, Hyllested parish. He is married and lives in Biserup. My Brother also has a daughter, Margrethe Olsen. She was born in Hyllested parish 1851 the 2nd of June. She is married and lives on Venslev Mark in her Fathers house. Her husband is named Peter Larsen. Niels Andersen I left my home in Denmark, wife and 5 grown children on the 28th of August My wife Mette Sofie Hector was born the 1st of March 1824 died the 14th of October My oldest son, Hans Christian Nielsen was born in Denmark, Sorø County, Bjerre parish the 16th of October He lives in Stubberup by Skelskør. He is married to Karoline Hansen, who was born the 30th of August They have four children. A son, who was born the 3rd of June 1889 in Stubberup, is named Anders Martin Nielsen. The first son died the 28th of January The second son is named Sofus Hector Nielsen. She was born in Denmark, Sorø County, Bjerre parish the 29th of May Her husbands name is Niels Larsen and they live in Skelskør and have children. My Mother was married before she married my Father. There was a son, Johannes Christensen. He was born in Bjerre parish, Sorø County, Denmark. Lived in Copenhagen, Springade No.33 and was a master smith. Died in Copenhagen. Born 1800 I also have a half-sister, Karen Kristensen, who was born 1803 and died in Høve She was married to a man named Otto Mortensen. I have a half-sister, Marie Christensen, who was born 1808 in Sorø county, Bjerre parish. She lived in a town nemed Kyringe by Ringsted. Her husbands name was Hans Olsen and he was a poultry dealer. She died My sister has a son. His address is Farmer Ole Hansen, Grønbergsgaard by Ringsted. Niels Andersen My Mother Margrethe Nielsen died the 7th of August years old. In the same year he married a girl, Ane who died the following year. In 1832 he married Maren Hans Datter with whom he had 4 children consisting of one daughter and 3 boys. My half-sister, Margrethe Andersen was born in Bjerre the 1st of January She married and lived in Næstved and the husband died there. I have a brother, Hans Andersen who was born in Bjerre parish the 25th of July 1834 and married Ane Mari Hansen who was born the 2nd of December 1831 in Gimlinge. A brother Kristian Andersen was born the 5th of February 1836 in Bjerre. Brother Rasmus Andersen was born in Bjerre the 21st of August Christofer Christensen was born in Gimlinge, Sorø county died Venslev parish and his wife Sofie Hector died in Venslev parish?1889. It would be good if ordinances were performed for the count family at Holstensborg. Their names are Frederik Adolf Holsten born the 18th of October 1784 died the 21st of May And the name of his wife was Vilhelmine Julie Reventlov born the 30th, 1788, died the 8th of October 1868 in Holsteinborg parish. Performed for them in Logan Temple the 21st of August 1888 by Ole Petersen, Brigham City. What time my wife s brother and his wife were born and died.
