Special thanks to the presiding elders, pastors and laity for your diligent service throughout the year. Your preparations for this session are acknowledged with gratitude. We are Pursuing Environmental Justice! Environmental accountability requires intentional focus on how our habits of consumption impact others and faithfulness to God s plan for the earth. The power, and will, to do better is directly related to how we see God and our role as stewards of creation. Let us praise God with grateful hearts and respectful practices. 8 EAST TENNESSEE ANNUAL CONFERENCE PREACHERS The Reverend Dickey Sebastian Berry Chapel AME Church, Lynchburg, Tennessee Opening Worship Preacher The Reverend Dickey Sebastian was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee. He graduated from Central High School in 1970 and has been employed at Goodman Manufacturing for 45 years. He was raised in the AME Church and was called to preach 27 years ago. He served as Pastor for the Pulaski area s Trotters Chapel, St. Paul- Aspen Hill, and Prospect for 2 years where there were major Improvements as a result of his leadership. Next, Rev. Sebastian was assigned to the Mulberry Circuit for 16 years where St. John Mulberry was his home church and Lucy Memorial Kelso was his wife s home church. Currently, his is the Pastor of Berry Chapel AME Church in Lynchburg, Tennessee where he has served for the past 10 years, He is Chaplin of Union Local 2385 of the Machinist. He has worked with Partners Of Education of Lincoln County School System. He served as the 2nd Vice President of Lay Organization before he was called to preach. The Reverend Beryl Basden Warren Chapel AME Church, Chattanooga, Tennessee Spiritual Renewal Revival Preacher The Reverend Beryl Basden, an Itinerant Elder, is presently on staff at Warren Chapel AME Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. 7

9 The Reverend Lisa Hammonds St. John AME Church, Nashville, Tennessee Ordination/Communion Preacher The Reverend Lisa Hammonds, a native of Nashville, Tennessee, answered her call to the preaching ministry in She served on the ministerial staff of St. John African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, Nashville, until September of 1999, when she was ordained an Itinerant Deacon in the Tennessee Annual Conference of the 13th Episcopal District of the AME Church. In September of 2000, she was ordained an Itinerant Elder. Her ministerial gifts and emphases are Christian education and grief care. Rev. Hammonds earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In 2000, she received her Masters of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville, Tennessee. Rev. Hammonds ministry is concerned with rightfully dividing God s Word with practical applications speaking to today s social issues. She believes the church plays a pivotal role in addressing oppression and seeking justice by demonstrating God s example of love and community. Rev. Hammonds preaches throughout Nashville and surrounding areas and exercises her ministry in numerous capacities. She serves on the staff of the AMEC Finance Department as an assistant to Treasurer/CFO Richard A. Lewis. Furthering her work in bereavement, Rev. Hammonds is a graduate of John A. Gupton College and is a licensed Funeral Director in Tennessee. She serves on the staff at Lewis & Wright Funeral Directors. Continuing her commitment to erudition, she works on numerous publications, lending her compiling, proofreading, and editing skills. In 2016, she became the Assistant Editor for The Christian Recorder. Notwithstanding her many obligations, Rev. Hammonds priority is to the pastorate. She has served congregations in Columbia, Nashville, and Clarksville. In March of 2018, she assumed responsibility as the senior pastor of her home church, St. John AME Church in Nashville, Tennessee, the Mother Church (oldest) of African Methodism in the state of Tennessee, an appointment and opportunity for which she is most excited! 8
