3 DEFINE DELIVERANCE To draw to one's self, to rescue, to deliver; to set free The purpose of deliverance is for God to rescue His people unto Himself to a place of protection, safety, and well being Psalms 34:17: When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. To deliver out of the hands of..., to escape." This meaning illustrates God's rescue of His people from the dominion of Satan and the world system. Colossians 1:13 - [The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, Deliverance is a process of Self Care Recovery, Restoration, Repair, Removal of curses, sin, and sickness 2 Timothy 4:18 - And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 3

4 DELIVERANCE FROM THE AMALEKITES In Jewish tradition, Amalek represents sin, the city of the world. Represents pure evil, and those who have given themselves over to the dark side of impurity In the Jewish teaching, Amalek represents spiritual blindness acting arrogantly in the world The theme of dealing with the Amalekites also reflect the lusts of the flesh, spiritual strongholds, evil associations, re-occurring oppression, sickness or dilemmas that keep you from experiencing sustainable peace, joy, love, and power Israel was hindered in so many ways due to the Amalekites whose tactics were to steal, kill, and destroy (John10:10) To go out and fight Amalek which is a call to ongoing spiritual warfare. Victory is only achieved through eradication 1 st Samuel 15:1-3: Go out and smite Amalek and utterly destroy all that they have. When God delivers you, He expects you to avoid the sin and/or area of disobedience that was connected with your infirmity 4

Numbers 14:40-45 Book of Judges They often raided the Israelites' land after they had planted crops, leaving them with nothing (Jdg 6:2-5) Saul was ordered to destroy them David attacked the Amalekites Hezekiah destroys the rest Haman Appears in Esther Saul is ordered to destroy the Amalekites, but he didn t obey God (1 st Sam 15:2,3): The Amalekites had burned Ziklag and took the women and children (1 Sam 30) Hezekiah killed over 100,000 men. Recovered the good land that they occupied He was a descendant of that Agag, king of the Amalekites, spared by Saul, but destroyed by Samuel Esther 3:1 Even after God told Saul to destroy the Amalekites, they would continue to attack Israel for the next 600 years because Saul did not deal with them as God had commanded 6

His mother's name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did. 4 He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan. 5 He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him. 6 For he clave to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses. 7 And the LORD was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not. 8 He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city. 7

8 WHO WAS HEZEKIAH? Because King Hezekiah put God first in everything he did, God prospered him. Hezekiah held fast to the Lord and did not stop following him; he kept the commands the Lord had given Moses. And the Lord was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook 2 Kings 18:6 - For he clung and held fast to the Lord and ceased not to follow Him, but kept His commandments, as the Lord commanded Moses. Before Hezekiah was able to accomplish a great victory for God, he accomplished a great feat in his kingdom by separating the kingdom from previous evil influence back to the Lord God Hezekiah s life is, for the most part, a model of faithfulness and trust in the Lord. His faith was more than superficial, but produced results He had to make changes in his kingdom. He inherited a kingdom that was corrupted by his father Ahaz After Ahaz s wicked reign, there was much work to do, and Hezekiah boldly cleaned house. Pagan altars, idols, and temples were destroyed. Hezekiah s trust in the Lord was rewarded with answered prayer, successful endeavors, and miraculous victory over his enemies. When faced with an impossible situation, surrounded by the dreadful and determined Assyrian army, Hezekiah did exactly the right thing he prayed. And God answered. Hezekiah when sick, prayed and God added 15 years to his life (2 nd Kings 20:5-7) 8

9 HEZEKIAH S STORY Hezekiah s father, Ahaz was wicked and led the people in idolatrous worship. Jewish History calls Hezekiah the Messiah Who Was Not. He reigned during the time of Isaiah the prophet The Jewish Talmud states that Hezekiah ensured that people knew God s Word and laws Everyone! From the territory of Dan in the north to Beersheba in the south there was not a child who did not know the most complex laws of purity and impurity, (Sanhedrin 94b). God gave Hezekiah great victory over the Assyrians after being encouraged by Isaiah to not fear and to hear the Word of God over the words of his enemy then it happened that night that the angel of the LORD went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men rose early in the morning, behold, all of them were dead (2 Kings 19:35) 9

10 HEZEKIAH FULFILLS GOD S COMMANDMENT CONCERNING THE AMALEKITES 1 Chronicles 4: And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks. 42 And some of them, even of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men, went to mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi. 43 And they smote the rest of the Amalekites that were escaped, and dwelt there unto this day. 10

11 HEZEKIAH S PRAYER Isaiah 37: Makes a good point that when people assail against us, that we need to take it to the Lord and not take it always upon ourselves to respond. Are you strong enough to allow God to respond for you sometimes? Hezekiah had received a Nasty gram from the Enemy so what does he do? He literally took the letter to the presence of God, spread out the letter before him and actually Cast his Cares upon the Lord. (1 Peter 5:7) God answered because Hezekiah prayed 11

Hezekiah received them and openly showed and paraded before them the blessings of God and even the temple, showing them the Ark of the Covenant and the tablets of stone inside. Isaiah rebuked Hezekiah for this act and prophesied that all the king had shown the Babylonians would one day be taken to Babylon along with Hezekiah s own descendants. (2 Kings 20: 12-20) - Pride Even after hearing Isaiah s rebuke, Hezekiah was relieved that this wouldn t occur during his day Selfishness His son, Manasseh would become evil due to Hezekiah s disobedience. Think of your children 12

13 FORTIFY YOUR POSITION Isaiah 59:19 - So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. The Purpose of Self Care is to ensure that we always fight from a position of strength 13

15 WAIT A MINUTE! Now I am not talking About Burning the House! More About Protecting Your Home Unfortunately, through our blind acceptance of so many Eastern philosophies and open mindset, we have allowed so many influences in our homes, not understanding or being alert to possible consequences There is no guarantee that if you remove certain items that you will be free because you must also purify your souls. However, as your mind become pure, you will look upon these idols and artifacts in a different light and you will exercise greater discernment regarding spiritual matters. This House is Pure Now! A Christian should not say or do anything the originates from a different religion without first examining its meaning and origin. While to a Hindu namaste can be used as casually as good morning, the word itself literally means I bow to you. Culturally, it has come to mean I bow to the god in you and more fully the god in me bows to the god in you. This can be confusing to many as we are instructed not to bow to man or worship other gods. (Isaiah 42:8; Exodus 20:3) 15

16 PROTECTING YOUR HOME Deuteronomy 7:26 - Neither shall you bring an abomination (an idol) into your house, lest you become an accursed thing like it; but you shall utterly detest and abhor it, for it is an accursed thing. Hezekiah realized that in order to be successful for the Lord, he had to begin at home. Are you keeping your home, or church cleaned spiritually? Some Christian scholars urge people to get rid of statues, pictures, jewelry or anything associated with witchcraft and pagan art As believers we must be sober and alert even in the area of receiving and displaying images, symbols, or artifacts that may be tied to the occult, evil, witchcraft, or occult religions While you may consider harmless, they may have a negative spiritual connection that can pollute your home and hinder your self care We read earlier that when Aachen brought the cursed thing into his tent. It not only caused him and his family to die, but it impacted the whole Jewish nation. 16

Things related to heathen worship (Voodoo dolls, spirit masks, snakes, dragons, thunderbirds, phoenixes etc. Ouija board, (also known as a witch s board) Games (Dungeons and dragons, i.e.) and certain video games with witchcraft references, extreme violence, demonic or occult entities and images Buddhist, Hindu or other eastern worship artefacts Things still connected to your addiction or stronghold Music (specific heavy metal bands like: AC/DC, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and to include Rap Music with its lyrics and now appearances of evil). Even some of the so-called Jesus rock music is destructive, as the beat in these albums has its origin in witchcraft. 18

IT CAN T BE THAT BAD A recent Gallup survey shows that just about three in four Americans hold some paranormal belief in at least one of the following: extra sensory perception (ESP), haunted houses, ghosts, mental telepathy, clairvoyance, astrology, communicating with the dead, witches, reincarnation, and channeling. I believe the reason the Jews kept returning to idolatry is because they fail to fortify themselves spiritually Fortify Your Position with Praise, Prayer, Purity and the Word of God 26
