2 INTRODUCTION: THE P S OF SELF CARE Prayer: Man is the being that prays (nepesh); Genesis 2:7 Praise provides strength and victory to sustain and win (Psalms 8:2) People (God made us relational which is where our strength comes from) Presence (Where you spend your time is where you find your life) Process (It s truly how you go about it) Power (Connection, Association, Authority) Purpose (People without purpose lose strength, restraint, and focus) Perspire (Exertion of Ministry) Pruning and Purging Strengthening our faith and requiring commitment Participation (Activities, Associations, Actions, and Alignment) Priorities (God, Others Self Prepares you for Eternal Life) Pursue Perfection (completeness or wholeness) (Hebrews 13:21; Matt 5:48) Patience (Endurance, Temperance) (1 st Tim 6:1; Hebrews 10:36) Peace (keeping your mind and hearts free from worry) (Philippians 4:7) 2

3 DEFINE DELIVERANCE To draw to one's self, to rescue, to deliver; to set free The purpose of deliverance is for God to rescue His people unto Himself to a place of protection, safety, and well being Psalms 34:17: When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. To deliver out of the hands of..., to escape." This meaning illustrates God's rescue of His people from the dominion of Satan and the world system. Colossians 1:13 - [The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, Deliverance from sin, rescue from trials, and escape from the influence of a world under the control of the evil one 3

4 DELIVERANCE FROM: Sin (Bondage and Influence) Addictions Trials and Testings From People and Situations Sickness and Disease Emotional & Spiritual Oppression Troubles (Even those Self-Imposed) Generational Curses Confusion & Fear Spiritual Attacks 4

5 WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH SELF CARE Deliverance is a process of Self Care Recovery, Restoration, Repair, Removal of curses, sin, and sickness 2 Timothy 4:18 - And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Psalms 34:17: When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. Wholeness is complete and sustainable deliverance Luke 17:19 - And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. John 5:6 - When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? 5

6 BEFORE YOU GO TO YOUR NEXT DELIVERANCE SEMINAR/RALLY Ask Yourself These Questions: Why does this issue/infirmity/attack keep recurring? How can I sustain my deliverance? What is the Root of my Infirmity/Affliction? Have I renounced or repented of what may be causing my affliction Sometimes our Affliction is our Ally It provides for us acceptance, affiliation, attention, and assistance without the accountability Ex: I may hold on to my depression because it gives me the attention I desire I don t have to be accountable for my bitterness; I deserve to be bitter and its not affecting anyone, is it? 6

7 WHO WERE THE AMALEKITES Genesis 36:12 -Timna was a concubine of Esau's son Eliphaz and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These are the sons of Esau's wife Adah. They became the hereditary enemy of Israel Sought every opportunity to destroy Israel Amalek - The father of the Amalekites, afterwards bitter enemies to the Jews, and whom God commanded to be entirely exterminated, Deuteronomy 25:17, Deuteronomy 25:19. The Amalekites continued to harass and plunder the Israelites in successive generations that spanned hundreds of years. 7

8 REMEMBER AMALEK Deuteronomy 25:17 - "Remember what Amalek did to you along the way when you came out from Egypt, God reminded Israel regarding the Amalekites Coming out of Egypt represents a time of Deliverance Why was it necessary for God to remind Israel and want them to remember. There must be a principle here. Jesus said in Luke 17:32: Remember Lot s wife Both instances speak to a time of deliverance of God s people and the consequences that incurred afterwards by not remembering how to complete and sustain Israel s deliverance 8

9 CHARACTERISTICS OF THE AMALEK Deut 25:17-19: Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt; 18 How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God. 19 Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it. Amalek apparently means dweller in a valley. They did not fear God They hated Israel Even though Israel initially had no quarrel with them Their tactics was to steal, kill, & destroy (Sounds familiar: John 10:10) They waylaid Israel They intended to stop or interrupt and detain them or trouble them in some other way 9

10 HISTORY OF AMALEKITES Descendants of Esau Attacked Israel in Desert In the Promised Land Book of Judges Amalek was a grandson of Esau; thus his descendants would be related to the Edomites: For their bitter and implacable hatred of Israel, Amalek was absolutely cursed by God The Amalekites allied themselves with various other enemies of Israel, including the Canaanites. Numbers 14:40-45 They often raided the Israelites' land after they had planted crops, leaving them with nothing (Jdg 6:2-5) Saul was ordered to destroy them David attacked the Amalekites Hezekiah destroys the rest Haman Appears in Esther Saul is ordered to destroy the Amalekites, but he didn t obey God (1 st Sam 15:2,3): The Amalekites had burned Ziklag and took the women and children (1 Sam 40) Hezekiah killed over 100,000 men. Recovered the good land that they occupied He was a descendant of that Agag, king of the Amalekites, spared by Saul, but destroyed by Samuel Esther 3:1 Even after God told Saul to destroy the Amalekites, they would continue to attack Israel for the next 600 years because Saul did not deal with them as God had commanded 10

11 HEBREW PERSPECTIVE In Jewish tradition, Amalek represents sin, the city of the world. Represents pure evil, and those who have given themselves over to the dark side of impurity Amalek begins with the letter, A symbolizing eye, meaning doubt or haughty representing the severed eye, or evil eye of doubt. In the Jewish teaching, Amalek represents spiritual blindness acting arrogantly in the world To go out and fight Amalek which is a call to ongoing spiritual warfare. We are not to be passive towards evil (Psalms 1) nor try to ignore We must call evil by its name and exercise spiritual authority over it Realize that our weapons are not carnal and have the power to destroy spiritual strongholds We are protected by God s armor and weapons of light (Romans 13:12; Ephesians 6:10-12) In this study we will learn the importance of dealing with the Amalekites in your life The Amalekites remained a thorn in Israel s side due to their disobedience in dealing with it 11

12 AMALEKITES ALSO REPRESENT Lusts of the Flesh Left undone, will hinder and destroy you spiritually The race of Esau and Amalek were the representatives of the spirit of the flesh and the world. This was the reason that God pronounced the decree of their extermination. The name of Agag is next significant. It is from the root Hak, which literally means ruler, and represents the spirit of self-will, self-assertion and independence in the human heart. Spiritual Strongholds Keep you from experiencing sustainable peace, joy, love, and power Associations that are not good for the believer. Our association with the world and impact of the Spirit of Balaam Consequences of an Imbalanced Spiritual Walk, carnality, and disobedience Controlling Fear keeping you from entering into the blessings and promises of God Worldly and satanic forces seeking to rule or destroy you 1 John 3:8 - He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 12

13 EXAMPLE SPIRITUAL STRONGHOLDS Unforgiveness Bitterness Anger Strife Unforgiveness Bitterness Anger Self hatred Let s say you start with unforgiveness towards someone If left unchecked or you don t repent, it becomes more strengthened by anger and strife. What started as just one tiny rope is not becoming a cord Depression Jealousy Accusation Malice Reinforced by spirits and covered by guilt & shame this has become a stronghold Sin, negative thoughts, association and participation with spirits can turn what began as a string, now becomes a rope which is more difficult to break or cut 13

14 ASSOCIATIONS Many experience deliverance, but stay connected and experiment with ungodly associations, spirits, witchcraft, and mysticism Can you help me? I feel I have been disturbed by spirits Leviticus 19:31 - Turn not to those [mediums] who have familiar spirits or to wizards; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God. 1 Chronicles 10:13 - So Saul died for his trespass against the Lord [in sparing Amalek], for his unfaithfulness in not keeping God's word, and also for consulting [a medium with] a spirit of the dead to inquire pleadingly of it, 14

15 ASSOCIATION I find it that many Christians to include their leaders, defend and even protest against so many causes in America that is usually connected to ungodly practices (i.e. abortion, legalization of marijuana, etc). We uplift ungodly people, making them a deity, even publishing their words and principles on social media Yet they do not stand up for Christian rights that have been taken away from us in schools, social and religious institutions without a whimper of protest. America is redefining our biblical beliefs and many just accept it. While they say that they need to speak out on social issues, their faith and relationship with God is private. 15

16 WHY WOULD GOD WANT THE AMALEKITES DESTROYED? 1 st Samuel 15:1-3: Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD. 2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. 3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass. God knows the future. God knew what the results would be if Israel did not completely eradicate the Amalekites. If Israel did not carry out God s orders, the Amalekites would come back to trouble the Israelites in the future. We also must remember that God looks at things from an eternal perspective and that His ways are higher than our ways. God did not order the extermination of these people to be cruel, but to prevent even greater evil from occurring in the future. 16

17 WAR OF THE FLESH Exodus 17:13, 14: So Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. 14 Then the Lord said to Moses, "Write this in a book as a memorial and recite it to Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Blot out the remembrance of Amalek: The Amalekites also represented our flesh, which must be subdued and conquered. We struggle, unfortunately with this flesh never truly overcoming it Galatians 5:17 - For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. Paul uses it here, the flesh is our the inner man that exists apart from the old man or the new man, and which is trained in rebellion by the old nature, the world, and the devil. 17

18 GOD WANTS THE INFLUENCE AND CURSE OF SIN DESTROYED IN OUR LIVES John 5:14 - Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. When God delivers you, He expects you to avoid the sin and/or area of disobedience that was connected with your infirmity God also knows the implication of sin in our lives it separates us from Him. He is not trying to steal your fun, or control but to ensure that He can have fellowship with you and that you experience all the blessings He has for you 18

19 DISOBEDIENCE 1 Samuel 15:9 - But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly. Saul did not completely obey God regarding destroying everything. He allowed the king to live and took the best of the spoils (Later he would blame the people) Saul not only allowed the Amalekites to remain for another 600 years, but he also lost his anointing as King (God s presence) If you don t deal with the Amalekites in your life, you can lose your anointing and the presence of God operating in your life 19

20 THOUGHTS TO CARRY OVER Am I really free today? Are there things in my life that is hindering me from experiencing God s best in my life? Why does this area of bondage or affliction keeps troubling me? What does God expect of me after I am delivered? 20
