5 READ: ISAIAH 24: 1-3 IMPENDING JUDGMENT 1 Behold, the LORD makes the earth empty and makes it waste, Distorts its surface And scatters abroad its inhabitants. 2 And it shall be: As with the people, so with the priest; As with the servant, so with his master; As with the maid, so with her mistress; As with the buyer, so with the seller; As with the lender, so with the borrower; As with the creditor, so with the debtor. 3 The land shall be entirely emptied and utterly plundered, For the LORD has spoken this word.

WHAT WILL THE LORD DO TO THE EARTH? DESTROY IT? WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ITS INHABITANTS? SCATTERED? WHO DOES THIS JUDGMENT INCLUDE? ALL MANKIND?

7 QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 24: Behold, the LORD makes the earth empty and makes it waste, Distorts its surface And scatters abroad its inhabitants. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PEOPLE OF BABEL? READ: GENESIS 11:8-9 8 The LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth And They ceased building the city. 9 It name is called Babel Because the LORD confused the language of all the earth. And The LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. WHAT DID JOEL TELL THE INHABITANTS TO DO? READ: JOEL 1:2-3 2 Hear this, you elders! Give ear, All you inhabitants of the land! Has anything like this happened in your days Or even in the days of your fathers? 3 Tell your children about it. Let your children tell their children And their children another generation.

READ: EZEKIEL 7:12 12 The time has come. The day draws near. Let not the buyer rejoice Nor the seller mourn For wrath is on their whole multitude.

READ: REVELATION 6: The kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 16 They said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 The great day of His wrath has come. Who is able to stand?

Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. HOW DID NOAH RESPOND TO THE LORD S WARNING? HEBREWS 11:7 7 By faith Noah, Being divinely warned of things not yet seen, Moved with godly fear, Prepared an ark for the saving of his household, By which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

LANGUISES? LANGUISH = FEEBLE - WEAK - IN THE STATE OF DEPRESSION READ: JEREMIAH 12: Many rulers have destroyed My vineyard; They have trodden My portion underfoot. They have made My pleasant portion a desolate wilderness. 11 They have made it desolate. Desolate! It mourns to Me. The whole land is made desolate Because no one takes it to heart. 12 The plunderers have come on all the desolate heights in the wilderness. The sword of the LORD shall devour from one end of the land to the other end of the land. No flesh shall have peace.

They returned with their vessels empty. They were ashamed and confounded And covered their heads. 4 Because the ground is parched. There was no rain in the land. The plowmen were ashamed. They covered their heads.

The new wine is dried up and the oil fails. 11 Be ashamed, you farmers, Wail, you vinedressers, For the wheat and the barley Because the harvest of the field has perished. 12 The vine has dried up, The fig tree has withered, The pomegranate tree, The palm tree, and The apple tree also. All the trees of the field are withered. Surely joy has withered away from the sons of men.

READ: GENESIS 3: The LORD said to Adam, Because you have heeded the voice of your wife and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, Saying, You shall not eat of it: Cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. 18 Thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you. And you shall eat the herb of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken. Dust you are and to dust you shall return.

WHAT DID ITS INHABITANTS DO? WHAT DID THE LORD SAY TO CAIN? READ: GENESIS 4: The LORD said to Cain, What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground. 11 Now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.

READ: GENESIS 9: God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, Saying: 9 Behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you, 10 And with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. 11 I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood And never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.

WHAT DID ITS INHABITANTS DO? WHAT DID THE LORD SAY DEFILES THE LAND? BLOOD? READ: NUMBERS 35: You shall not pollute the land where you are. For blood defiles the land. No atonement can be made for the land, For the blood that is shed on it, Except by the blood of him who shed it. 34 Do not defile the land which you inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell. For I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

WHAT DID ITS INHABITANTS DO? WHAT DID DAVID SAY POLLUTED THE LAND? INNOCENT BLOOD? READ: PSALMS 106: They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan And the land was polluted with blood. 39 Thus they were defiled by their own works And played the harlot by their own deeds.

21 QUESTIONS: ISAIAH 24: 4-6 HOW WAS THE EARTH DEFILED? WHAT DID ITS INHABITANTS DO? WHAT DID THE CHILDREN OF JUDAH DO? SHED INNOCENT BLOOD? READ: JEREMIAH 7: You shall say to them, This is a nation that does not obey the voice of the LORD their God Nor receive correction. Truth has perished And has been cut off from their mouth. 29 Cut off your hair and cast it away and take up a lamentation on the desolate heights. For the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath. 30 The children of Judah have done evil in My sight, Says the LORD. They have set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to pollute it. 31 They have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, To burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, Which I did not command Nor did it come into My heart.

WHAT DID ITS INHABITANTS DO? WHAT DID THE CHILDREN OF JUDAH DO? READ: JEREMIAH 11: The LORD said to me, A conspiracy has been found among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 10 They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers who refused to hear My words. They have gone after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant which I made with their fathers.

WHAT IS THIS CURSE? WHAT DID JOSHUA READ TO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL? THE BLESSINGS AND THE CURSINGS OF THE LAW? READ: JOSHUA 8: Joshua read all the words of the law, the blessings and the cursings, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law. READ: JOSHUA 23: It shall come to pass that as all the good things have come upon you which the LORD your God promised you, So the LORD will bring upon you all harmful things Until He has destroyed you from this good land which the LORD your God has given you. 16 When You have transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and have gone and served other gods and bowed down to them, Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you and you shall perish quickly from the good land which He has given you.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ITS INHABITANTS? WHO ARE THE FEW THAT ARE LEFT? WHY? WHO REMAINED IN JERUSALEM? READ: 2 KINGS 24:14 14 Nebuchadnezzar carried into captivity all Jerusalem: all the captains and all the mighty men of valor, ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths. None remained except the poorest people of the land.

WHO DID THE LORD SEND AGAINST THEM? WHY? READ: JEREMIAH 25: Thus says the LORD of hosts: Because you have not heard My words 9 Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, says the LORD. Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, will bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, against these nations all around. I will utterly destroy them and make them an astonishment, a hissing and perpetual desolations. 10 I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp. 11 This whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

READ: HOSEA 2: I will also cause all her mirth to cease, Her feast days, Her New Moons, Her Sabbaths All her appointed feasts. 12 I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, Of which she has said, These are my wages that my lovers have given me. I will make them a forest And the beasts of the field shall eat them. 13 I will punish her For the days of the Baals to which she burned incense. She decked herself with her earrings and jewelry, And went after her lovers; But Me she forgot, says the LORD.

READ: JEREMIAH 7:34 34 I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. The land shall be desolate. READ: JEREMIAH 16:9 9 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will cause to cease from this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.

WHY ARE THEY WEEPING IN BABYLON? READ: PSALMS 137:1-3 1 By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yes, we wept When we remembered Zion. 2 We hung our harps Upon the willows in the midst of it. 3 Those who carried us away captive asked of us a song And those who plundered us requested mirth, Saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion!

IS THERE ANY HOPE FOR THEM? READ: JEREMIAH 33: Thus says the LORD: There shall be heard in this place, of which you say: It is desolate, without man and without beast, in the cities of Judah, in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast, 11 The voice of joy, the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say: Praise the LORD of hosts, For the LORD is good, For His mercy endures forever. And those who will bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD, I will cause the captives of the land to return as at the first, says the LORD.

WHAT IS THE CONDITION OF THE CITY? WHAT WARNING DID THE LORD GIVE THEM? READ: 1 SAMUEL 12: Samuel said to the people, Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness. Yet do not turn aside from following the LORD. But serve the LORD with all your heart. 21 Do not turn aside. For then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver. For they are nothing.

READ: PSALMS 107:40 40 He pours contempt on princes, And causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way

Wail, all you drinkers of wine, Because of the new wine, It has been cut off from your mouth. 6 A nation has come up against My land, Strong and without number. His teeth are the teeth of a lion And he has the fangs of a fierce lion. 7 He has laid waste My vine And ruined My fig tree. He has stripped it bare and thrown it away. Its branches are made white.

WHAT IS THE CONDITION OF THE CITY? WHY HAS THEIR JOY AND MIRTH CEASED? WHAT DO THE CHILDREN SAY TO THEIR MOTHERS? READ: LAMENTATIONS 2:12 12 They say to their mothers, Where is grain and wine? As they swoon like the wounded In the streets of the city, As their life is poured out In their mothers' bosom.

WHAT IS THE CONDITION OF THE GATE TO THE CITY? WHAT HAVE THE THIEVES AND ROBBERS DONE? WHY IS THIS LIKENED TO THE GLEANING OF GRAPES? READ: OBADIAH 5 5 If thieves had come to you, If robbers by night: Oh, how you will be cut off!. Would they not have stolen till they had enough? If grape-gatherers had come to you, Would they not have left some gleanings?
