As those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate. 8 Before they lay down, Rahab came up to them on the roof, 9 She said to the men: I know that the LORD has given you the land, That the terror of you has fallen on us, and That all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. And they built a siege wall against it all around. 2 The city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. 3 By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine had become so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land. READ: JEREMIAH 39:1-8 1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem, and besieged it. 2 In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the city was penetrated. 3 All the princes of the king of Babylon came in and sat in the Middle Gate: Nergal-Sharezer, Samgar-Nebo, Sarsechim, Rabsaris, Nergal-Sarezer, Rabmag, with the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon. 4 When Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, they fled. They went out of the city by night, by way of the king's garden, by the gate between the two walls. And he went out by way of the plain.

READ: JEREMIAH 39:1-8 5 But the Chaldean army pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. They had captured him and brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced judgment on him. 6 The king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes in Riblah. The king of Babylon also killed all the nobles of Judah. 7 He put out Zedekiah's eyes and bound him with bronze fetters to carry him off to Babylon. 8 The Chaldeans burned the king's house and the houses of the people with fire, and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

READ: JEREMIAH 52: Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 2 He did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done. 3 Because of the anger of the LORD this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, till He finally cast them out from His presence. Then Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. 4 In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and encamped against it. And they built a siege wall against it all around. 5 The city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. 6 By the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine had become so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land.

All the men of war fled and went out of the city at night by way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden, even though the Chaldeans were near the city all around. And they went by way of the plain. 8 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and they overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. All his army was scattered from him. 9 They took the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath. And he pronounced judgment on him. 10 The king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. And he killed all the princes of Judah in Riblah. 11 He put out the eyes of Zedekiah. The king of Babylon bound him in bronze fetters, took him to Babylon, and put him in prison till the day of his death. NKJV

I am mourning and Astonishment has taken hold of me. 22 Is there no balm in Gilead, Is there no physician there? Why is there no recovery for the health of the daughter of my people?

But the daughter of my people is cruel, Like ostriches in the wilderness. 4 The tongue of the infant clings To the roof of its mouth for thirst. The young children ask for bread; No one breaks it for them. 5 Those who ate delicacies Are desolate in the streets.
