5 What is adultery? Sex with someone outside of a heterosexual monogamous marriage

6 God desires for us to live in a faithful monogamous relationship with our spouse. Our marital faithfulness reflects God s faithfulness to an unfaithful world.

7 Adultery is forbidden. You shall not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14 (NIV)

8 Adultery is a heart issue. You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 5:27-28 (ESV)

9 Adultery is destructive. Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with a forbidden woman and embrace the bosom of an adulteress? 21 For a man's ways are before the eyes of the LORD, and he ponders all his paths. 22 The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him, and he is held fast in the cords of his sin. 23 He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great folly he is led astray. 13 Adultery can be avoided. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
