1 Morning Meeting: One Learn Concept of and calendar language Children sit in a circle on the carpet. The teacher asks How many children are in our class today? How could we find out? (Discuss) Once the idea of counting each child is presented, the teacher will do this first. Children will then count a second time. Starting out with one, each consecutive child can call out the next number in the count until each child has stated his/her number. The number can be recorded on the hundreds chart. Introduce the class calendar. The teacher can ask the students if they have calendars in their homes. If they do, what do they use it for? (Discuss). Briefly identify where the month and days are and identify today s date. It can be labeled as the First Day of School. Let the children know that you will be putting other special days up on the calendar later in the week.
