2 About the Author Marlayne Giron was born in 1959 in Hollywood, California. She is a wife and mother and lives with her husband, Michael, her daughter, Karina, and their dog, Buddy in Orange County, California. She currently works as a part-time career secretary and enjoys cooking, scrap-booking, reading, and entertaining. At the age of 22 she was inspired to write The Victor from a verse in an Amy Grant song called: Fairytale (from her Father's Eyes album): two princes wage the battle for eternity but the victor has been known from the start. This conjured up an image in her imagination of an evil knight in black armor and good knight in shining armor crossing swords over "maiden in distress". She wrote the story in her free time at work on an IBM Selectric typewriter and at home on a Smith Corona Portable. The Victor was rewritten many times over the course of almost 30 years. Marlayne made many attempts to get it published in the late 1980s and early 1990s but after a 4-year bout with a chronic illness that resulted in major surgery, then infertility, the subsequent adoption of her daughter and the demands of having to work full-time to pay the bills, she gave up on her dream of The Victor ever being published until April of 2008 when Tate Publishing called to offer her a contract. The Victor was officially released on April 14 th of 2009 and many unique doors have opened up for her to get the word out on her book most notable of which was getting a copy of her book to the Christian music artists who inspired the idea for the book in the first place: Amy Grant. As a direct result of her former employment with John Styll at CCM Magazine 28 years ago (who is now currently President of the Gospel Music Association), both he and Amy Grant have copies of The Victor and Amy personally autographed Marlayne's copy. In March of 2010, Marlayne hopes to one day meet Amy Grant and have a picture taken of the two of them with The Victor. 7 Allegory Chart 1) Lucius (Lucifer) rebels against the King Eloth (God the Father) by trying to usurp his throne and take his sword of power, Ephlal. This sword represents the word of God and means judgment in Hebrew. Lucius wants none of Eloth s mercy and screams at him during his sentencing. (Fall of Satan, the five I will s in Isaiah). Lucius is banished from Ellioth with his men (a third of the angels fell with Satan in their rebellion). 2) Ardon (Adam) and Zarabeth (Eve) betroth their daughter, Llyonesse, to the King s son, Joshua, (the bride of Christ who has been chosen from before the foundation of the world). They then sail to a new land to establish a kingdom for Joshua to rule when he comes of age. (Adam and Eve walk in the garden with God). Page 7

8 CHARACTER TRAIT CHART Eloth the King: regal, compassionate, ready to do battle on his people s behalf, merciful but also full of justice. His past is shrouded in mystery and no mention is made of him ever having a wife which is intentional. His hair is bright silver and straight, hanging to just above his shoulders and he has brilliant grey eyes. There is no physical description of him in the book on purpose (as God the Father is invisible and none but the Son have seen Him). Only his character traits of righteousness, goodness, mercy, and compassion are described. Joshua his only begotten Son: Youthful, honest, humble, hard-working, loyal, faithful but with a sense of humor. He is kind and generous but no push-over. He is also a hopeless romantic when it comes to Llyonesse. He is 11 when the story begins and in his young 20 s when it ends. Despite his love for Llyonesse and longing to be with her, he will not allow anyone to stand in the way of his duty of redeeming his people from their captivity; not even themselves. As an adult He has dark, golden brown hair with golden whiskers (moustache and beard). His eyes are also piercing grey and he is broad shouldered and heavily muscled as an adult. As a child his hair is a bit lighter and he is of average build. Page 8

9 Prologue: (the fall of Satan and his angels) CHAPTER SUMMARY The prologue describes the events and motives surrounding the fall and rebellion of one of Eloth s most trusted and beloved servants: Lucius and sets up the literary structure which forms the skeleton for the rest of the book. The rebel, Lucius, is caught and prevented from taking Eloth s sword of power, Ephlal with which he desired to slay his former master and enslave the inhabitants of Ellioth with him as their master. He is captured along with his men who rebelled against the King and subsequently banished from Ellioth all the while spewing curses and threats of ultimate revenge. Page 9
