Lack of faith, lack of experience in trusting God, and reliance on my own assessment of the situation. B. He is 99 in chapter 17. It had been at least 13 or 14 years. How did God identify Himself and what did He tell Abram to do in this fifth communication? 17:1 What is the new description of the same promise God had made to Abram in 12:1-3? 17:2-8 See text. The promise is described in greater detail and expanded. God s revelation is progressive. What are the new names given to Abram and Sarai? 17:5, 15 What symbol was chosen by God to be the new sign of His covenant with Abraham? 17:10-14 C. Same stipulation 17:17-27 When God announced that Sarah would bear a son, how was the news received? 17:17, 18:12-15 Both Abraham and Sarah laughed but, it would appear, for different reasons. Ishmael would become the father of 12 princes and God would make of him a great nation. D. Final calculation 17:21, 18:1-15 (10,14) What date for the beginning of fulfillment of His covenant did God give to Abraham? 17:21 What promises did God make to Sarah, Abraham s wife? 17: How did Abraham and Sarah respond to the guests who came to visit him at his home in Mamre? 1-15 He welcomed the men with hospitality, had a meal prepared for them, and listened to what they had to say. 7 Genesis 17:1-2 - When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly."

9 1. Plan to persevere in your faith. Don t ever give up on God. (17:1)

17 Genesis 17:3 - And Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying,

Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

And the Lord said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Shall I indeed bear a child, when I am so old?' "Is anything too difficult for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, at this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son." Sarah denied it however, saying, "I did not laugh"; for she was afraid. And He said, "No, but you did laugh."
