1 Confirmation Make Up Assignment For Sunday Session 2 December 10, 2017 This assignment is DUE ON or before January 7th! Candidate Name: Please understand that because our sessions are interactive and the learning is based on experience, it is impossible to fully make up the information lost when you do not attend a session. Attendance at all sessions is required for Confirmation. Although this assignment will better help you understand what we discussed at the session, it can not fully take its place. Since you have already missed a session, please be sure to attend all others. Please complete the following questions honestly and thoroughly. This assignment should take you at least one hour to complete. If the questions are not completed thoroughly, you will have to redo the assignment. It is expected that you put thought into your answers and take this seriously. If you need help completing the assignment, please call the Faith Formation Office or Come and see Patty Rodriguez. 1) In the lines below, write down everything you know about the story of Moses (in the Old Testament). He was the man who received the 10 Commandments from God. If you do not know about him, his story can be found in the Bible, in the Old Testament book of Exodus. Please take the time to look it up.
2 2) In the lines below and on the next page, write down everything you know about the Passion of Jesus. In other words, what are the things/events Jesus went through before he died? What are the things that happened on Holy Thursday and Good Friday? For the following questions if you do not know the answer, look them up in your Faith Formation book (from Tuesday night or Sunday) or look them up online. Make sure you go to a Catholic Website to get your information. Ask you sponsor or your parent to help you if necessary. 3) During Mass, before Communion, the priest holds Jesus up (in the Eucharist) and says the following words. You fill in the blanks. Behold,, who takes away the sins of the world. 4) Why do we call Jesus this? (What you filled in above.) HINT: This has to do with the Jewish Passover and what the Hebrew people had for dinner. Also, it is related to the 10 th plague that Egypt suffered before he let Moses and the people go. Look it up in the Bible if you don t know. Read the verses: Genesis 3:1-13. Then read Matthew 26: If possible watch the following youtube video: 5) Compare and contrast the reading from Genesis with the video clip from the movie. Answering the following questions will help: Who was tempting? Who was being tempted? What was the temptation? How did the people being tempted respond to the temptation? What was the outcome or the result of their behavior? What were the consequences? You might come up with other comparisons
3 GOD has a plan for salvation. Even after the disobedience of Adam and Eve, God sends Jesus who despite being tempted, OBEYS God s will for his life. On Confirmation we pray that God will help us to listen, discover and follow God s plan for our life. 6) What does it mean to you that Jesus saves you from your sin and gives you new life? In other words, how does this impact the way you live your life if it all? At Confirmation the Bishop will lay hands on you and pray over you. It is important that you understand why this tradition is so significant in our Church Tradition. 7) In the Bible we hear that the apostles laid hands on people. Why did they do this? What is this symbolic of? (Look it up online or in the Bible in the New Testament in the book of Acts of the Apostles. ) REFLECTION: Complete the following handouts and use them to pray. Ask God to help you listen to his plan for his life think about whether or not you are willing to surrender your life to Jesus to put your life in God s hands. Do you trust God enough how does this impact your decision to be CONFIRMED?

5 For I know the PLANS I have for YOU declares the Lord, PLANS to PROSPER you and not to harm you, PLANS to give you HOPE and a FUTURE.
