2 BAM - Bible and Me BAM This club will take primary school children through stories from the Bible in the order that they happened. The complete course will cover many of the stories of the Old Testament and the life of Jesus At the beginning of the course each child should be given an empty CD case in which to store their BAM cards from each session. These cards will act as a reminder of what they have heard and will in the end build up to be a series of full CD cases that they will hopefully want to keep and treasure. Every week a card is given to each child for them to insert inside their CD case with a summary of the story, a main point to remember and some statements for them to tick or fill in. The CD cases can either be sent home to bring back each week or kept at the club and sent home when full. The club that this material is designed for is about 1 hr in length (or longer if you want to spend more time on the craft). If your club runs for a shorter time than you can simply skip some of the activities as appropriate. When planning your club remember to keep very focused on what the current aim for your group is and to plan accordingly - this aim may well change from time to time. (The current aim might be to have fun with only a bit of Christian input as this is all the children can cope with or it might be to focus a lot more on spiritual things) Each week when you finalise the session plan remember that flexibility is as important as focus. If a particular activity or discussion is going really well it can sometimes be really important to let an activity run over time and postpone other activities to another time or cancel them altogether - remember to always keep time for what you see as crucially important to include. The Old Testament pack contains... Front and back CD case covers for printing and decorating - part 1 and 2 30 Lesson plans and activity sheets as appropriate 30 CD cards to be printed and handed out each session The Old Testament BAM Bible Stories booklet to give to each child at the end CD case instructions... - Purchase a single empty CD case for each child - Remove the black insert in each CD case - Print and cut the front cover, fold it in half and insert it into the case - Print and cut the back cover and get each child to write their name in the largest explosion and then they can decorate the other explosions to personalise their case.

10 BAM - In the Beginning - Genesis 1-2 Game: Song: Break: Play Simon Says - individually or in 2 teams - to see which team wins (explain that today is all about a story when God says ) Action Songs Drink and biscuit Chat: Can anyone tell me why we have 7 days in the week and not 6 or 8 or 10? - well lets see if you are right or not Bible: Ask: Read the story from The Lion Storyteller Bible - p8 Some of you may have heard about something called evolution which tries to explain how the world might have come about without God having to do any thing. BUT God says in the Bible that he did do something and he is certainly powerful enough to do it all in 6 days. I think if he is powerful enough to do it in 6 days and he said he did it in 6 days then he did do it in 6 days. Does anyone know what happened on the 7th day? He rested Can anyone tell me why we have 7 days in the week and not 6 or 8 or 10? - Because God said we should, just like he did. Pray: CD: Craft: Extra: Help us to understand how powerful you are Write names on the CD back covers and decorate, then fill in today s card Make a world - give the younger ones a circle made of blue card. Give the older ones a blue A4 piece of card (for them to cut into any shape world they want). Then give them some green pieces of paper to cut into different shape pieces of land to stick on their world. Act out in groups the 6 days of creation. Give them time to think about how they would like to act each different day. Then get a leader to say Day 1 and then when they have finished, Day 2 etc 1: Light 2: Sky, Water 3. Land, Plants, Trees 4. Sun, Moon, Stars 5. Sea creatures, Birds 6. Animals, Man 7. Rest

11 The most common question about the creation story is what about the dinosaurs. The answer is that the Bible mentions dinosaurs being alive at the same time as people... Job 41 Anyone who sees Leviathan loses courage and falls to the ground. When he is aroused, he is fierce; no one would dare to stand before him. Who can attack him and still be safe? No one in all the world can do it.[b] Let me tell you about Leviathan's legs and describe how great and strong he is. No one can tear off his outer coat or pierce the armour he wears. Who can make him open his jaws, ringed with those terrifying teeth? His back is made of rows of shields, fastened together and hard as stone. Each one is joined so tight to the nsext, not even a breath can come between. They all are fastened so firmly together that nothing can ever pull them apart. Light flashes when he sneezes, and his eyes glow like the rising sun. Flames blaze from his mouth, and streams of sparks fly out. Smoke comes pouring out of his nose, like smoke from weeds burning under a pot. His breath starts fires burning; flames leap out of his mouth. His neck is so powerful that all who meet him are terrified. There is not a weak spot in his skin; it is as hard and unyielding as iron. There is no sword that can wound him; no spear or arrow or lance that can harm him. The scales on his belly are like jagged pieces of pottery; they tear up the muddy ground like a threshing sledge. he is king of all wild beasts.

12 In the Beginning - Genesis 1-2 At the beginning there was nothing at all, God was all that was around. Then God made the world. God made everything appear just by speaking. Light on day one. Sky and water on day two. Dry land and plants on day three. Sun, moon and stars on day four. Sea creatures and birds on day five. Animals and man on day six. God said that it was all very good and then on the 7th day God rested. Who was around before anything else? How many days did God take to make it all? 7 / 6 Draw something that God made: God is powerful - He can do anything he wants. He made the world just right for us to live in! Everyone freezes, the leader then shows the word he has chosen and those with the same actions as the leaders word are out. Action songs Drink and biscuit What did God think of everything that had happened on the earth so far? - He thought it was all very good and perfect. Is everything in the world good and perfect now? That was the beginning of things not being always great and perfect Who can tell me the name of your Dad? Mum? Grandad? Grannie? Great Grandad? Great Grannie? Great Great Grandad? Great Great Grannie? Great Great Great Grandad? Great Great Great Grannie? Etc etc (The answer at the very end is Adam and Eve) Because we come from Adam and Eve - we are a bit like them We also do bad things that God doesn t want us to do - just like they did. Please help us not to do things that make you sad. Give each child the card and go through the words / answers together Make a changing face. Adam and Eve happy then Adam and Eve sad. Start with a piece of card with a face shaped oval. Then staple one extra top of the face, and one extra bottom of the face along one side edge to make 2 fold-back flaps. Draw a sad mouth and a happy mouth on the 2 bottom of the face segments, a nose (in the middle card segment) and eyes and hair for a man and eyes and hair for a lady on the 2 top of the face segments. (The nose is the same for all the faces) Who can remember the order? Start with happy, happy, sad, sad, sad. (This is Adam and Eve happy and then Adam, Eve and God sad) (get each team to repeat the words in order) Then add either a sad or a happy on extra - keep going until there is a winner (make sure you write the order down to check against what they say)

17 A Sad Day - Genesis 3 Adam and Eve were living in the beautiful garden God had made for them to enjoy. They had wonderful food to eat but God told them there was one tree that they must not eat the fruit from. The devil, disguised himself as a snake and came to the garden and persuaded Eve to eat this fruit - he told her she would be wise if she did - knowing about bad as well as good. Eve ate some of the fruit and gave some to Adam to eat too. Adam and Eve hid from God because they knew that they had done something bad. God sadly told them that bad things would happen in the world now they had disobeyed him. Did God make people bad? Yes / No Who made bad come in to the world? Who are we related to? 28 BAM - The Runaway - Genesis 28, 29, 33 Game: Can you tell which is worth a lot? Select pairs of items for the children to choose which one to have. Split them into 2 teams. Offer team A first choice of which of the 2 items they would like (each team member has to vote so a group decision is arrived at). Team B is given first choice on the next item. When they select an item they need to turn it over to see what it is worth. (one item should cost a lot more than the other similar item because of its make or because of the extras that it does). To sit comfortably it will need an n cut out so that it fits on the nose and it should be taped at the back so that it doesn t fall down. It needs to be decorated with pretend eyes at the front and other decoration to make it look interesting. (To do this 6cm strips of flexible card are needed. It is best if these are long strips, otherwise tape them together by overlapping them and taping them on both the top and bottom surfaces.) Play a game of Head and Catch.
