3. You re my friend and You are my brother, even though You are a king. I love You more than any other, so much more than anything. 84 In manus tuas, Pater Taizé (spiritum) In manus tuas, Pater, commendo spiritum meum, in Manus tuas, Pater, commendo spiritum meum. 2 85 Be not afraid 1. You shall cross the barren desert but you shall not die of thirst. You shall wander far in safety though you do not know the way. You shall speak your words in foreign lands and all will under- stand. You shall see the face of God and live. Be not afraid. I go before you always. Come, follow me, and I will give you rest. 2. If you pass through raging waters in the sea, you shall not drown. If you walk amid the burning flames, you shall not be harmed. If you stand before the pow r of hell and death is at your side, know that I am with you through it all.

3. Blessed are you poor, for the kingdom shall be yours. Blest are you that weep and mourn, for one day you shall laugh. And if wicked tongues in- sult and hate you all because of me, blessed, blessed are you! 86 Nothing can trouble (Nada te turbe) Taizé Nada te turbe, nada te_ espante, quien a Dios tiene Nothing can trouble, nothing can frighten those who seek God shall nada le falta. Nada te turbe, nada te_espante, sólo Dios basta. never go wanting. Nothing can trouble, nothing can frighten. God alone fills us.

91 The Lord s my shepherd 1. The Lord s my shepherd, I ll not want, God makes me down to lie in pastures green; God lead - eth me the qui - et waters by. 2. My soul thou dost restore again; and me to walk doth make within the paths of righteousness, e en for thine own name s sake. 3. Yea, though I walk in death s dark vale, yet will I fear none ill; for thou art with me, and thy rod and staff me comfort still. 4. My table thou hast furnished in presence of my foes; my head thou dost with oil anoint, and my cup overflows. 5. Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me; and in God s house for evermore my dwelling place shall be.

92 Light which surrounds us 1. Light which surrounds us in the morning, first light of dawn in which we stand; so cold, alone and so uncertain, clothe me o Light, my steps command. Keep me from falling, guide us always, so awkward, helpless for the task, that we may never lose each other, aimless, beyond each other s grasp. 2. Light, guardian ruler of my city, insistent light which conquers all. Dear loving Light, with steadfast shoulders, come bear me up, alert, so small. See through my eyes, light child within me, and see if worlds perhaps may dawn, where people wear their names with honour, where justice rules and peace is born.

93 Abide with me 1. Abide with me, fast falls the eventide; the darkness deepens, Lord with me abide; when other helpers fail and comfort flee help of the helpless, o abide with me. 2. Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; earth's joy grow dim, its glories pass away; change and decay in all around I see; o Thou who changest not, abide with me. 3. I need Thy presence every passing hour; what but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power? Who like Thyself my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, o abide with me. 4. I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me. 5. Reveal Thyself before my closing eyes; shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies, heaven s morning breaks, and earth s vain shadow flee; in life and death, o Lord, abide with me.

94 What a friend we have in Jesus 1. What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry ev'rything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit! O what needless pain we bear! All because we do not carry ev'rything to God in prayer. 2. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer. 3. Are we weak and heavy-laden, Cumbered with a load of care? Precious Saviour, still our refuge, Take it to the Lord in prayer. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer; In His arms He ll take and shield thee. Thou wilt find a solace there.

95 I am sure I shall see Taizé I am sure I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Yes, I shall see the goodness of the Lord, hold firm, trust in the Lord, I am.

96 Kindle a flame Kind - le a flame to light - en the dark and take all fear a - way. 97 We shall overcome 1. We shall overcome, we shall over- come some day. Oh, deep in my heart. I do believe, we shall overcome some day. 2. We ll walk hand in hand we ll walk hand in hand we ll walk hand in hand some day. Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe, we ll walk hand in hand some day. 3. We are not afraid 4. Truth shall make us free 5. We shall live in peace

98 He s got the whole world 1. He's got the whole world in His hands. He's got the big round world in His hands, he's got the whole world in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands. 2. He s got the wind and the rain in His hands, He s got the sun and the moon in His hands, He s got you and me, brother, in His hands, He s got you and me, sister, in His hands, He s got the whole world in His hands,...

99 We are marching 1. We are marching in the light of God, we are marching in the light of God. We are marching in the light of God, we are marching in the light of God. We are marching. We are marching, we are marching in the light of God, we are marching, we are marching. We are marching in the light of God. 2. We are living in the love of God We are working in the power of God...

100 Take my life 1. Take my life, and let it be consecrated Lord, to Thee. Take my moments and my days let them flow in ceaseless praise. 2. Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of thy love. Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for thee. 3. Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King. Take my intellect, and use every power as thou shalt choose. 4. Take my will, and make it thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart- it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne. 5. Take my love, my Lord, I pour at thy feet its treasure- store. Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for thee.

101 Christ calls us now 1. Christ calls us now, as long ago, beside the Galilee. The call went out to common folk, Come now;come follow me So when we hear, respond and go, we too must leave behind, the trappings and encumbrances possessing life and mind. 2. Christ sends us out, as long ago, disciples, two by two. Proclaimed salvation s hope and joy, creating all things new. So when we speak of God in Christ, our grateful hearts afire. We pray the Holy Spirit will our thoughts and words inspire. 3. Christ walks with us. Christ dwells with us, in resurrection power, as near as thought, as deep as breath, to bring our faith to flower. So now may we convey to all, the zeal-sustaining strength, supplying meaning, depth and goal, for all life s breadth and length.

102 Let there be love 1. Let there be love shared among us, let there be love in our eyes. May now Your love sweep this nation, cause us O Lord to arise. Give us a fresh under - standing of brotherly love that is real. Let there be love shared among us. Let there be love. 2. Let there be peace 3. Let there be hope

103 Jesus Christ is waiting 1. Jesus Christ is waiting, waiting in the streets, no one is his neighbour all alone he eats. Listen, Lord Jesus, I am lonely too. Make me, friend or stranger, fit to wait on you. 2. Jesus Christ is raging, raging in the streets, where injustice spirals, and real hope retreats. Listen, Lord Jesus, I am angry too. In the Kingdom s causes let me rage with you. 3. Jesus Christ is healing, healing in the streets; curing those who suffer, touching those he greets. Listen, Lord Jesus, I have pity too. Let my care be active, healing just like you. 4. Jesus Christ is dancing, dancing in the streets, where each sign of hatred he, with love, defeats. Listen, Lord Jesus, I should triumph too. On suspicion s graveyard let me dance with you. 5. Jesus Christ is calling, calling in the streets. Who will join my journey? I will guide their feet. Listen, Lord Jesus, let my fears be few. Walk one step before me; I will follow you.

104 If you have ears 1. If you have ears, then listen to what the Spirit says and give an open hearing to wonder and surprise. If you have ears for hearing the word in human form, then let your love be telling and your compassion warm. 2. If you have buds for tasting the apple of God s eye, then go, enjoy creation and people on the way. If you have hands for caring, then pray that you may know the tender art of loving our world of touch and go. 3. If you can smell the perfume of life, the feast of earth, then sow the seeds of laughter and tend the shoots of mirth. Come, people to your senses and celebrate the day! For God gives wine for water the gift of light for grey.

105 Where we practise love (Ubi caritas) Taizé Ubi cari - tas et a - mor Where we practise love and charity ubi cari - tas Deus i - bi est. where we practise love there is our God. 106 Wait for the Lord Taizé Wait for the Lord, whose day is near. Wait for the Lord: keep watch, take heart!

107 For the healing of the nations 1. For the healing of the nations, Lord, we pray with one accord; for a just and equal sharing of the things that earth affords. To a life of love and action help us raise and pledge our word. 2. Lead us now, Lord, into freedom, from despair your world release; that redeemed from war and hatred, all may come and go in peace. Show us how through care and goodness fear will die and hope increase. 3. All that kills abundant living, let it from the earth be banned; pride of status, race or schooling, dogmas that obscure your plan. In our common quest for justice may we hallow life s brief span. 4. You, creator God, have written your great name on humankind; For our growing in your likeness bring the life of Christ to mind: that by our response and service earth its destiny may find.

108 Give me joy in my heart 1. Give me joy in my heart, keep me praising, give me joy in my heart I pray. Give me joy in my heart keep me praising. Keep me praising 'till the end of day. Sing ho-san-na! Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna to the King of Kings! Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna! Sing hosanna to the King! 2. Give me peace in my heart, keep me resting 3. Give me love in my heart, keep me serving

109 Whatsoever you do Chorus: Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me. When I was hungry you gave me to eat. When I was thirsty you gave me to drink. Now enter into the home of my Father. Chorus 2. When I was homeless you opened your door. When I was naked you gave me your coat. Now enter into the home of my Father. Chorus 3. When I was weary you helped me find rest. When I was anxious you calmed all my fears. Now enter into the home of my Father. Chorus 4. When in a prison you came to my cell. When on a sick bed you cared for my needs. Now enter into the home of my Father. Chorus

110 God gave to men 1. God gave to man, to have and to hold, creation and its wealth untold, but man has with uncaring hand destroyed its green and raped the land. 2. We strip the trees and leave them bare, pollute the streams, the soil, the air, and we have never truly faced the outcome of our ways of waste. 3. But now, with millions underfed and poison in our daily bread, we view creation with alarm; can man with man undo the harm? 4. May God forgive the curse of greed, alert our mind to human need, that we again may purify the life of earth and sea and sky.

111 As long as there are men and women 1. As long as there are men and women, as long as earth has fruit to give, so long will you be God our Father, we thank you for all things that live. 2. As long as human words are spoken and man lives for his fellowman, so long will you be here among us; we share the work your love begun. 3. You feed the birds, you clothe the flowers, you know your creatures and their ways. O Lord, you are our home, our refuge and you have numbered all our days. 4. You are our light, our life unending; we seem to die, but are not dead. You sent your only Son to save us; his body is our living bread. 5. So all that you, God, have created must worship you while life endures. You are the love that gave us being, accept us, Lord, for we are yours.

112 For ourselves no longer living 1. For ourselves no longer living, let us live for Christ alone; of ourselves more strongly giving, go as far as he has gone: Son of God who chose to be Son of Man to set us free. 2. If we are to live for others, share as equals human worth, join the round of sisters, brothers, that encircles all the earth. All the fullness earth affords is the people s, is the Lord s. 3. Fighting fear and exploitation is our daily common call; finding selfhood, building nations, sharing what we have with all. As the birds that soar in flight, let us rise and face the light. 4. Let us raise and join the forces that combine to do God s will, wisely using earth s resources, human energy and skill. Let us know, by love released, celebrate the future s feast!

113 I Danced in the morning 1. I danced in the morning when the world was begun, And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun, And I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth; at Bethlehem I had my birth. Dance then wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the dance, said he, and I ll lead you all, wherever you may be, and I ll lead you all in the dance, said he. dance, said he. 2. I danced for the scribe and the pharisee, but they would not dance and they would not follow me. I danced for the fishermen, for James and John. They danced with me and the dance went on. Refrein 3. I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame; the holy people said it was a shame. They whipped and they stripped and they hung me on high; they left me there on a cross to die.

4. I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black, It s hard to dance with the devil on your back. They buried my body and they thought I d gone; but I m the dance and I still go on. 5. They cut me down and I leapt up high: I am the life that will never, never die; I ll live in you if you ll live in me I am the Lord of the dance said he. 114 Seek ye first 1. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteous 2. Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and ye shall ness, and all these things shall be added unto you; find; knock and it shall be opened unto you; alle - lu, allelu - ia. Al - le - lu - ia, al - lealle - lu, allelu - ia. Al - le - lu - ia, al - le- lu - ia, al - le - lu - ia, al - le, allelu - ia.

115 As a story handed down 1. As a story handed down, as a star beyond the sky, as a song on the wind: old as the earth, and remembered. 2. As a servant in our midst, as a word that makes us whole, as a voice in our dreams: near as the nightfall upon us. 3. Who would call me by my name, who would lead me from afar, who would light me my way: the power of God, gone before me. 4. Who has gathered me from dust, who has lifted up the poor, who has cast down the proud: and shattered the world of the mighty. 5. Who has walked upon the sea, who is promised to the cross, who is risen like bread: broken and shared in our lifetime. 6. As a promise we might hold, as a sword within our heart, as a journey begun: trusting in one gone before us.
