1 THE BRONZE BOW COURSE PLAN METHODOLOGY: by Elizabeth George Speare is represented by the abbreviation BB. Each weekly assignment is summarized in the first lines of the week s daily course plan. The specific daily assignments are outlined in the following lines indicated by the MON, TUES, WED and THUR abbreviations. The chapter study questions, chapter vocabulary and glossary are located in the Literature Study Question booklets available for purchase from. Answers should be given in complete written or oral sentences. We suggest reading the weekly written assignment to the student at the beginning of the week. The student should write the assignment down on a note card (to be used as a bookmark) so that he can think about the assignment as he reads. The written assignments are suggested to be started on Thursday after the reading is done and completed by the following Monday. As the teacher, be sure to review the final exam now to ensure all concepts are covered with your student as he reads the book. All the Final Exam questions will be taken from the notes listed in these course plans and the Study Questions in the Literature Study Question booklet. Each week also includes a memory gem. If the student repeats the phrase a couple of times a day each week, he will improve his memory skills, increase his repertoire of phraseology, and prepare for one of the parts of the final exam at the same time. Encourage the student to pay attention as he reads the quotation in the text, so he understands the context. He can also earn extra credit by knowing these quotations for the final. is a thought-provoking story about a young man who lives during the time of Jesus Christ. Read Chapter 23 and 24 and answer Study Questions. Chapter 23. Daniel decides to go to Jesus to see if he will help his sister. It is a big step for him. Yet, when he arrives, Jesus is not there. He sees thousands and thousands of people on the hillside, all frantic with exultation. Jesus has fed them all. WED Yet Jesus has gone, so the crowds could not make him their king. Daniel turns away from Jesus, remembering his hatred. Chapter 24. Leah is dying. After a life filled with demons and solitude, a brief awakening is followed by her utterly giving up the fight and will to live. Daniel finally sends word to Simon. Will it make any difference? 7 ASSIGNMENT ANSWER KEY WEEK 1: Written assignment: How would you describe Jesus, God made flesh, if you were describing him to someone? (minimum, 1 paragraph) Answers will vary WEEK 2: Written Assignment: Rosh claims he wants to rid Israel of the Romans, yet he steals even from his own people, he does not obey Jewish laws, and his only concern seems to be himself. Joel and Daniel wonder if he is the prophesied liberator. Why doesn't this make sense? (1 paragraph) It does not make sense because if Rosh's first concern is to liberate the Jewish nation, one would think that his first concern would be his fellow Jews. Rosh steals, has other steal for the cause, but he never does anything that would even be a step toward freeing his people in any way. WEEK 3: Written Assignment. How has the death of Daniel's grandmother improved both Daniel's and Leah's lives? (1 paragraph) Daniel's life has improved, because his grandmother's death has forced him to live in society again. He is now able to take an objective look at the actions of himself, Rosh, and Rosh's men. Leah's life has improved because Daniel is very observant about his sister s ignorance and does his best to make up for it and to treat her as a person he loves. WEEK 4: Written Assignment. As Christians, we have learned how to recognize the difference between good acts and evil acts: good acts yield good fruits of the spirit while bad acts do not. Compare the two quotations above ( As Daniel grew confident of the skill in his own hands, his work became a source of pleasure. and Those who live by the sword will perish by the sword. ) using examples from the story to show the fruits of each of those endeavors. (1 paragraph) All Daniel's life, he has hated others and lived by the sword, but that lifestyle never, ever produced anything good whatsoever. However, since Daniel has lived and worked in an honest occupation, he feels the satisfaction of a job well done and finds enjoyment in the works of his hands. This result is a fruit of the spirit. WEEK 5: Written assignment: If all people embrace the teachings of Christ, especially His message of love, what would the world be like? Describe it. (1 paragraph minimum) Answers will vary, but the answer should include the fact that through his teaching, all of the world would know true peace and all the other virtues. D7
