His life showed it! All that he said came to pass. If someone was looking for a man or woman of God...would they come knocking at your door? Would they know you were a man or woman of God by what you say and do? Goodly = handsome; Higher = taller; Asses = donkeys; Honourable = good, upright; Thither = to there; Peradventure = perhaps; Spent = all gone; Vessels = containers; Enquire = ask; Seer = prophet; Maidens = young unmarried women; Draw water = get water from a well; Haste = hurry; High place = place where sacrifices were made; Straightway = immediately; Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5v16)

Where did Samuel stop to show Saul God s Word? (v27) Wow! The LORD used a few lost donkeys to bring Saul to Samuel...and Samuel anointed him to be king. God can use simple things to guide us. Whose cry does God hear? a) His people s b) Happy people c) Only prophets d) Only farmers The LORD told Samuel in his ear (v15). The LORD didn t speak out loud. But it was a word just for Samuel. He needed to know what to do. Are you listening to what the Lord is saying to you? Can you hear His still small voice telling you what to do? Anoint = pour oil on him to make him king; Seer = prophet; Reign = rule; Asses = donkeys; Seer = prophet; Parlour = living room; Chiefest = most important; Bidden = invited; Communed = talked with; Spring of day = daybreak Bid = Tell; Abroad = away from the house I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me. (1 Samuel 9v16) 1) The LORD; 2) The cry of God s people; 3) The LORD told him; 4) At the gate of the city; 5) To eat with him in the high place; 6) The donkeys were found and his father s house were looking for him;7) Into the parlour; 8) About 30 people; 9) The shoulder; 10) The top of the house; 11) Early the next morning; 12) The end of the city The LORD hears the cry of His people

Who would he meet by the plain of Tabor? (v3) Find it on a map 4. Where were they going? (v3) Find it on a map Bethel means house of God. These men were going to worship God. They had offerings to give to God. 5. What would they give him? (v4) 6. Who would he meet by the garrison of the Philistines? (v5) 7. Who came upon Saul? (v6) 8. What would happen to him? (v6) 9. Who was with Saul? (v7) 10. Where was he to wait 7 days? (v8) Find it on a map 11. Why? (v8) 12. What did God give Saul? (v9) All the signs came to pass. There was no mistake. God had chosen Saul to be king. He needed the Holy Spirit to help him 13. What became a proverb? (v11+12) 14. Where did Saul go? (v13) Find it on a map The high place was where they worshipped the LORD Saul was a changed man. The LORD gave him another heart. The Holy Spirit came upon him. He told out God s Word. Others saw the change in him. The Lord can change you, too! When the Holy Spirit has control in your life...others will see the change in you. Vial = flask; Anointed = oil poured on him to make him king; Inheritance = what you own; Sepulchre = tomb; Thence = from there; Salute = greet; Garrison = place where troops were; Thither = to there; Company = group of people; Psaltery = musical instrument with many strings; Tabret = tambourine; Prophesy = tell out God s Word; Occasion serve thee = as you are able to do; Tarry = wait; Beforetime = before that time; Proverb = saying;
6 What is the sign of being filled with the Spirit? a) You must speak in tongues b) You will be a preacher c) You will never do wrong again d) You will be able to heal people e) You will have power to witness 1) Anointed him to be king; 2) 2 men; 3) 3 men; 4) Bethel; 5) 2 loaves of bread; 6) A company of prophets; 7) The Spirit of the LORD; 8) He would be turned into another man; 9) God; 10) Gilgal; 11) Samuel would come to offer burnt offerings and peace offerings; 12) Another heart; 13) Is Saul also among the prophets; 14) The high place The sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit is you will have power to witness. This means that God will give you the strength to tell others about Him. There is Only One True and Living God. It s hard for us to understand but God is 3 Persons...God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God the Holy Spirit comes to live in us when we are saved. He helps us pray and understand the Bible. He helps us tell others about Jesus. He ll help us live to please the Lord...even when it s hard. God wants us to be filled with His Spirit (Ephesians 5v18). He wants complete control of our lives. Did you know? A prophet of God will tell out God s Word. Sometimes a prophet told the future. The Spirit of God shows them what to say. He speaks through them. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 36v26)

Now the people must see their king being chosen 7. Who showed them where Saul was hiding? (v22) 8. What was Saul like? (v23) 9. Who had chosen him? (v24) 10. Where did Samuel send the people? (v25) 11. Where did Samuel go? (v26) Find it on a map 12. What sort of men were with Saul? (v26) 13. When did Saul keep quiet? (v27) God has a work for you to do. How can you hide from doing it? a) Use your talents b) Obey God c) Don t bother doing things for God d) Be filled with the Spirit Not everyone will sing our praises. Some people will even be unkind and hurtful to us. But it is a wise person who turns a deaf ear to what they say...and leaves the LORD to sort them out. Get friends whose hearts are changed by God! Whither = where; Asses = donkeys; Oppressed = ruled over harshly; Rejected = not wanted; Adversities = hardships; Tribulations = troubles; Present = be there; Enquired = asked; Fetched = brought; Higher = taller; Despised = thought little of; Held his peace = kept quiet If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5v25) 1) His uncle; 2) No; 3) Mizpeh; 4) God; 5) By wanting a king; 6) Saul; 7) The LORD; 8) Taller than any of the people; 9) The LORD; 10) Home; 11) Home to Gibeah; 12) A band of men whose hearts the LORD had touched; 13) When some people despised him and brought him no presents You hide from doing the work God has for you when...you don t bother doing things for God.
8 Thursday Saul fights the Ammonites Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 11v Where did Nahash camp against? (v1) 2. What would he do? (v2) This would mean that they couldn t aim right with their weapons. 3. How many days did the elders ask for? (v3) 4. What did the people of Gibeah do? (v4) Find Gibeah on a map 5. What was Saul doing? (v5) 6. Who came upon Saul? (v6) 7. What did Saul do? (v7) 8. What fell on the people? (v7) 9. How many gathered in Bezek to fight? (v8) Find Bezek on a map 10. How did Saul do in the battle? (v11) 11. Why would Saul put no one in Israel to death? (v13) 12. Where did Samuel gather the people? (v14) Find it on a map 13. Why? (v14+15) 14. How did Saul and all the men of Israel feel? (v15) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5v8) Sometimes we come to an impossible place in our lives. Satan is attacking us hard. We can t see any hope ahead. Turn to the Lord who can do the impossible. His power shines brightest in our darkest hour. Encamped = camped Covenant = agreement; Serve = live for; Thrust = put out; Reproach = be ashamed; Respite = relief; Messengers = people who bring messages; Coasts = area, borders; Tidings = news; Aileth = makes you sad; Anger kindled = got angry; Yoke of oxen = cattle joined together using a wooden frame for pulling; Hewed = cut in pieces; Companies = groups of people; Wrought = done; Numbered = counted
9 What should we do when God wins a battle against Satan for us? a) Rejoice and praise the LORD b) Fight with those who didn t help us c) Boast about what we did d) Take money for doing it 1) Jabesh-gilead; 2) Thrust out their right eyes; 3) 7 days; 4) Wept; 5) Bringing the herd of cattle out of the field; 6) The Spirit of God; 7) Cut a yoke of oxen in pieces, sent them throughout all Israel, to get men to come to fight; 8) The fear of the LORD; 9) men out of Israel and men of Judah; 10) Put the people in 3 companies, slew the Ammonites from early morning to midday, so that those that remained were scattered; 11) The LORD had wrought salvation in Israel that day; 12) Gilgal; 13) Renew to kingdom, make Saul king, and sacrifice peace offerings before the LORD; 14) They rejoiced greatly When God wins a battle for us against Satan...make sure to rejoiced and praise the LORD. Nahash wanted to put out the eyes of the men of Jabesh. Then they wouldn t be good in battle. Satan is God s great enemy. He wants to destroy our lives. He doesn t want us to be good soldiers for God. The men of Jabesh knew they needed someone to save them. They couldn t save themselves. We cannot save ourselves from Satan power. The Only Saviour is the Lord Jesus Christ. Did you know? Saul needed the Spirit of God to help him. It was the LORD who won the battle for Israel (v13). The Holy Spirit will help us fight Satan. The LORD is stronger than Satan. He will win the battle against Satan for us. The Ammonites were descendants of Lot (Genesis 19v36-38)
10 Friday Samuel s life before the people Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 12v What had Samuel done for Israel? (v1) 2. What age was Samuel? (v2) 3. How long had Samuel walked before them? (v2) 4. Had Samuel done wrong to Israel? (v4+5) 5. Who was witness to this? (v5) 6. What sort of acts had the LORD done? (v7) 7. What had the LORD done for Israel? (v8) 8. What did the LORD do when they forgot Him? (v9) 9. When would the LORD deliver them? (v10) 10. Who were some of the deliverers He sent? (v11) 11. What would happen if they obeyed God? (v14) 12. What would happen if they disobeyed God? (v15) Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you. (1 Samuel 12v24) Think of all the righteous acts of the LORD in the past...even when people did wrong. One wrong turn doesn t wreck our lives before God. Don t live in the wrongs of the past. Get right with God today. Hearkened = listened to; Witness = tell what you saw and heard; Oxen = cattle; Ass = donkey; Defrauded = cheated; Oppressed = ruled over harshly; Bribe = give money or gift to get someone to do something; Restore = give back; Aught = anything; Anointed = pour oil on him to make him king; Advanced = raised up; Reason with = try to get them to do right; Righteous acts = good things done; Dwell = live; Forsaken = left; Deliver = save from; Nay = no; Behold = look to
11 What sort of Christian should you be? a) One who won t keep God s commandments b) One who cheats and tells lies c) One who takes bribes and is unkind d) One who loves and serves God with all their heart e) One who makes other people suffer 1) Made a king over them; 2) Old and gray headed; 3) From his childhood; 4) No; 5) The LORD; 6) Righteous; 7) Brought them out of Egypt to live in Israel; 8) Gave them to Sisera, the Philistines, and Moab; 9) When they cried to the LORD to forgive them and to deliver them; 10) Jerubbaal, Bedan, Jephthah, and Samuel; 11) The people and king would continue following the LORD and it would be well with them; 12) The hand of the LORD would be against them A true Christian will love and serve God with all their heart
12 Saturday Samuel promises to pray Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 12v Who was going to do a great thing? (v16) 2. What time of year was it? (v17) 3. What did Samuel ask the LORD to do? (v17+18) 4. Why? (v17) The wheat harvest was in late spring. They didn t usually get thunder and rain, then. This was a sign from God. The LORD can send thunder and rain when He wants. It showed them He didn t like their sin. 5. How did the people feel? (v18) 6. What did they ask Samuel to do? (v19) 7. What did Samuel tell them to do? (v20) 8. Why will the LORD not forsake His people? (v22) 9. What would Samuel NOT do? (v23) 10. What would Samuel teach them? (v23) 11. How were they to serve the LORD? (v24) 12. What were they to consider? (v24) 13. What would happen if they disobeyed? (v25) God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way. (1 Samuel 12v23) Don t stop praying for someone when they do wrong and hurt you. In fact, that is all the more reason to pray for them. But when they do wrong...they need to confess their sins to God.
